They actually thought too much about it and ruined it for most people, turning the game into a muscle spasm in their taint which they can gold a split by drinking enough water to sustain that uncomfortable sit.
It was worth putting the work into creating a leaderboard when the one we were all using was being moderated by people who didn't care about the community. It was a leaderboard that was barely held together by a couple of rules and banned players. After tickrate, it slowly died and no one really cared to do anything about it, as it would require too much energy for something that we felt was not worth it.
Zypeh and friends got together and put up the leaderboards here, and we all took a bit of excess energy to upload runs with videos and/or demos, so it felt as if we had a new stimulus to put time into everything again. Little did I know, one mod had the power to remove the entire thing, and seeing as the mod whose in control of the rollbacks on editing the leaderboards (SgtKabukiman) is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to reach, I realized the entire thing was a lost cause... for two reasons.
- No one wants to put the amount of effort into re-adding all of their times onto a leaderboard that is poorly maintained and bottlenecked by moderator activity.
- If mods can just as easily wipe it clean anyways, it makes them absolutely pointless to begin with.
As of now, Iverb seems to be putting a lot of work, along with a couple moderators, into the new site, board.iverb.me, so feel free to use this site for all of your needs on the leaderboards. If you need a couple links which helps get straight to the portion of the changelog you're looking for, here are a couple of useful tips:
If you want all new wr's in changelog: http://board.iverb.me/changelog?boardName=&profileNumber=&chapter=&chamber=&wr=1&demo=&yt=&submission=
Wr's with demos: http://board.iverb.me/changelog?boardName=&profileNumber=&chapter=&chamber=&wr=1&demo=1&yt=&submission=
Wr's with videos: http://board.iverb.me/changelog?boardName=&profileNumber=&chapter=&chamber=&wr=1&demo=0&yt=1&submission=
Wr's with demos and videos: http://board.iverb.me/changelog?boardName=&profileNumber=&chapter=&chamber=&wr=1&demo=1&yt=1&submission=
Take whichever one of these links, bookmark it, and you don't have to deal with the slow transition to find the parameters you're looking for in the changelog, or add it as your homepage. Kind of a dumb tip, but it's there.
In conclusion, we don't need the speedrun.com IL leaderboards for a reference anymore, because Iverb has gone above and beyond the amount of work anyone else has done in keeping the community alive with a totally customizable leaderboard and changelog. Use it, stop this conversation right now, and have a good day.
I'll do it if i get a 100 dollar donation for a new mousepad and mouse :D
Twitch: twitch.tv/PerOculos Nickname: Per, PerO, PerOculos Country: USA
Game: Portal 2 Category: Single Player Campaign Estimate: 1:30:00 Possible Commentators: Jezs, Portal Rex, Tanger_2b aka Portal2Tenacious aka NoochM, Znernicus
This was a run I did pretty drunk first and second part between an internet drop.
And of course don't forget the new quintessential portal cut which wouldn't be allowed.
Sounds controversial :D why not put RTA with WW in there??????
They are supposed to be when they are deliberate. They don't count if you die, although dying on wr is virtually impossible anyways.
I remember someone tried to use a trackpad to bhop, that person's name was GMK Focus. We don't talk to GMK Focus anymore.
The entire category is an attempt to redo the rules in a way that is timeable with Livesplit and also fun. This is the answer to znern's argument saying that if you want to time a run without container ride, you shouldn't put it in in the first place. He's not wrong, so I made the category differ from ss further with the other rules in an attempt to make it more fun.
Wellp, I've learned that the tricky part isn't actually getting out of bounds, it's getting back in-bounds. Imanex has a video where he climbs up the wall with portals he places outside on the wall, however KingpinSYD was apparently able to clip straight in from a save/load. (straight from imanex's description) Not sure how that works, but fair enough I guess. If I could see the coordinates, it might be easier to see if its portal height intensive, or some coordinate which involves precision to warp up. gl with it
No point. I already created a new category. With blackjack. And hookers.
"Looks like we've all agreed on it being a different category rather than being handled the same way vault save was. Alright time to come up with a name... how about 'cheating lazy segment' because surely 'any%' is too lenient, we need some sting in the game.
Alright, looks like we've settled on 'segmented sp_a1_intro1', but what are the rules going to say? Surely we can't copy and paste the single segment rules verbatim, that would give too much merit to a fake category. We can try '1- Don't publicize your runs, 2- claiming that a run is world record must contain the disclaimer of the segmented category, 3- fatal allergies and darkest fears must be posted in the description of your video'
Looks like we've settled on '1- must be verified by a mod (PerOculos and only him because seriously what other mod really gives a fuck) before it can be posted, 2- route credit to tanger 3- CTRL+V' now can we PLEASE talk about the design of the new timer? At the very least, we must debate the implications of stream titles saying 'speedrun' because we all know it technically isn't, and the game you can label your stream as playing, because it CERTAINLY isn't Portal 2."

Let's agree to disagree, I'm done with YOUR category.
Yea hold me to it, just link this thread and znern's "if you don't like people's consensus then change the discussion" mentality in my chat if I ever forget how poor of a decision it is to play this category.
Don't worry my vote doesn't count, I'm done running single segment. Any fun it used to be got wiped out by all of this, gl keeping the wr in the future Znern, I'll still be on challenge mode for what it's worth til some advances in timing rta happen.
I haven't opened up Portal 1 ever to see whether a run's legit or not, I don't even really know if I intend to ever. Here's what I do know - if you're not willing to put in the effort to record your run as one continuous video, then please do everyone who needs to see your run a huge steamy solid:
There's a nifty command I saw Forest, css bhop legend himself, use to play a thread of demos in succession which encompassed a larger run of a big map. You would start by typing 'startdemos' and include a space between each demo name. For instance:
startdemos speedrun speedrun_2 speedrun_3 speedrun_4 speedrun_5 speedrun_6 speedrun_7 speedrun_8 speedrun_9 speedrun_10
So if you're going to upload demos, perhaps put this command somewhere in the comments as a courtesy to whoever is downloading your demos to verify your run. Thanks for reading
