@Jumpyluff Kappa
But on a serious note, everyone is entitled to their own opinion about it. But giving the majority of the community a leaderboard to use if they want it vs removing it because it upsets a few people who are purist about what should be a category... not really a hard choice (not saying there's anything wrong with having that opinion, just its not fair or reasonable to remove it just because of that).
First off, why does it matter to you in the slightest?
Secondly, like 90% of people that actually run/know the game want it there.
Thirdly, it doesn't "greatly reduce" the RNG. People have gone on for an hour without getting it. Sure you only need 1 rabbit instead of 8. But it also takes like 5x-10x as long per rabbit check (you have to go so much further + you are only checking 1 rabbit at a time instead of 3). Basically, the average time for the rabbits star is only marginally better, just the results are a lot more spread out (similar mean, higher standard deviation).
Actually, just found this run that didn't use moat skip
Was 4 years ago when there was no competition in the category. So yeah, wasn't optimal at all.
Way back there was actually a route without it. At first when I did 50 I didn't use moat skip. But I don't have it written down anywhere and can't remember. Plus its probably not very optimal at all.
Sorry, I've been really busy (with ESA and work and stuff) and only just got around to checking SR.com now. I do agree though, it is pretty much just mrshasta doing all the verifying right now, and 1, that's a lot of work to just put on him with all the IL submissions, but 2 it will also take a while if he is also busy.
So, I have added jcool and really_tall as mods. Hopefully this should resolve this.
This varies though if you use VC or DS. VC will load around 0.5 seconds faster (varies stage to stage though).
I never really thought about it, but had a quick word with people in discord and most seem to think from BBH entry would be best (the fade in timing just like other level stars), so I guess we will go with that :p
I think originally the idea was to not allow hats at the start of the level (when you have yoshi) for all of the other character categories, but if you wanted to do it then you put it in N/A. But it's kinda pointless I guess. Idk, might remove it if most people agree (not like it is getting any use anyway).
Well no, but I'm guessing that is the one that has got Dragon annoyed. Proof on DS games is always going to be a problem. If we require video proof for everything, its going to deter a lot of people from even trying out speedrunning the game. If we just straight up allow everything then obviously people will submit fake times. The best we can do it keep a middle ground and just use our judgement to determine whether a time is reasonable or not (which is what we are already doing). We are stricter on these sort of things on the main categories.
Really_tall and J_dude kinda summed this up perfectly, but just to add 1 extra thing, if you think a certain run needs reviewing probably the best place to report it is the discord (which you can find in the resources tab).
While I appreciate that you probably just want to help out the community, there is a reason why we don't always require video proof. This has been discussed a lot in the discord in the past (check the resources tab if you want to join it and discuss it more with us). But we don't really need any more moderators for this game. It has a small player base and there are multiple mods who are regularly active here.
And heres the video proof
Don't get me wrong, we are humans, we can make mistakes and have a bad judgement about a run when there's a ton of ILs being submitted at once, so do feel free to flag them to us. But don't just assume that you are perfect and it is impossible that someone has beaten you.
But I do think it is unreasonable to ask for video proof when the console is so hard to capture. Especially for stuff like ILs which aren't exactly a massive deal. We do have rules for when to question runs for video proof in the main categories though.
Dragon, if you are referring to "worldrecordsmasher" beating your time on the koopa star in BoB, don't just assume that your time is basically perfect and and his is impossible. I literally just got 1:17 on my 2nd try (and I don't even know if my strats are the best as I rarely do 150 star).
Which submissions are we talking about?
I get the idea, but it does seem kinda pointless (as cros said, moat skip is probably the "free-est" major skip, and having a category that allows all others apart from this doesn't really make sense).
If people want to run it, then by all means go for it, and we could maybe make it a misc category, but idk why someone would put effort into it when they could just run 8 star.
Ah, so he is actually a known and reputable guy? It's just so bizarre to see such a large gap there.
How the hell is this a thing? Fake time? https://www.cyberscore.me.uk/chart/165263
It blows my mind that you won't let it go. It has it's place, just noone has bother to do a run/race of it yet.
