QuébecHello! I'm glad to see interest about Mahjong! As you said, there is some rule variation depending of the country. For this game, we play the riichi (Japanese) version. I don't consider myself as a expert or experienced player, I am more like at an intermediate level. But, the best advice I could give is to start slowly but surely. Like understanding the tiles, the hand setup to get a winning hand with suit and triplet. Some call like riichi, pon, chii, kan, etc. And learning some Yaku along the way.

It doesn't matter for me, I can wait 16 seconds each time.
But for some top runners, it could be really annoying to reset and wait 16 sec because of slow or miss climbing pole. If the romhack doesn't have any bugs, glitches or any anomalies of some sort, I guess why not.
Either way, I'm ok with that whatever the community choose.
For sure! You can submit your run on the Namcot version since the bonus is not mandatory to complete compared to the Taxan version (just edited the categories). This is why there is 2 seperates boards!

I would like to announce there will be a tournament coming soon for this game somewhere in March. Most of the participants never play this game before and since it is really hard especially on the extra stages, I would like to ask if you can add a new category where the run ends on bad ending warpless?
That is the category the participants will play and for accessibility, it would encourage new runners to play this game.

I'm actually learning the 100% category since a few runner did this. I was watching Dragondarch's run and I noticed that he didn't go for transceiver glitch and instead go for the glasses. Is there a specific reason for this or the route on his run is outdated?
I think it would be a good idea to specify in the rule which emulator and version are allowed to avoid confusion with some new runners. I definitely agree that Mesen and Retroarch should not be used for speedrunning.
I never try the FDS version yet, but I think beside the loading time, there is no difference between the two versions, I need to check to be sure. That's probably why they added the load time on the board. If that's the case I don't think it is matter that much.
It is for people who play the FDS version, since there are loading between world.

As you noticed there is a lot of activity recently toward this game especially from the Quebec speedrunning community. The reason why it is happening, this is because there is a big tournament organised by BenshowSly where he chooses this game for our community, this tournament will last all spring and even until early summer. Right now, we are 40 peoples who participate on this event so many submissions will come along during this time. I know some of you may be too busy to verify all these runs but I suggest that you're looking for a new mod or just a verifier that can be active for this moment, assure leaderboard integrity and has a good knowledge of the game.
Some of my community wants me to become a mod since I have really good game knowledge and tons of experience about speedrunning in general. But I will let you decide about this matter, no rush :p
