I'm also adding a rule disallowing USCs in ILs, since allowing them would be kinda lame imo.

Hi guys,

In light of the discovery of ultra-shortcuts (USCs), I'm going to change the existing Challenge Championship% to "Challenge Championship% No USCs", and create a new "Challenge Championship%" that will have the same rules as it does now. Since all the existing runs qualify as No USC, I'll put them in that category, but if you would like your run to be moved to the new CC% category we can do that too (since they technically qualify, but will be much slower without using USCs).

I'll also be adding verbiage describing exactly what a USC is -- in this case it's a very specific glitch involving obstacle checkpoints. Since the Early Finish glitch is completely different, and only saves a couple seconds (compared to the USC glitch which can save a minute or more per level), I think it should still be allowed in the No USC category.

I figure since nobody has touched this game in ages except me, this shouldn't be too controversial, but let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

There are a couple instances where you can't speed cap, without seeing footage it's hard to say what exactly the problem is. There are three situations where you can't speed cap:

  1. If you jump from a roll, sonic will be in a state known as "control lock" where the game ignores all left and right inputs until you land
  2. If you have speed shoes/supersonic
  3. You're playing as knuckles

I think a Ring% category could be interesting, as a category extension. The rules could be similar to Low% -- i.e. ring count is most important, and ties are broken by time. So if I have a run that collects, say, 1000 rings in 25 minutes, and you find a way to collect 1001 rings in two hours, your run beats mine. I think use of 2P should be allowed for Ring%, but only if it's the same person (1P2C).

Only problem I see is that there might not be enough interest in the community to support the new category. But it's not like it's difficult to add new category extensions. I'm curious to see what other people think about it.

Hi guys, just wanted to mention that I added ILs. The rules are up for debate, but I think they're pretty fair. Definitely let me know if you think they should be changed.

One issue that might rear its head at some point is emulation. I've found that some emulators, most notably Kega Fusion, do a poor job of emulating the game. For some reason, acceleration curves and top speeds are not correct on Kega. We should probably nail down exactly which emulators are acceptable, if activity in this game ever picks up.

Just wanted to share some Game Genie codes I've created to help with practice. Since this game doesn't emulate well (which is something we might need to address in the rules at some point), and for some reason MM save states on Everdrive like to crash, I developed these Game Genie codes.

One win results in bonus round, start with 2 laps, freeze bonus round timer: AEGT-AADC AKHT-AAH4 REYA-A6WE REYA-A6WG

(Note: You will need to first win the qualifying map, select racers, and win map 1 before the bonus round will load. After you win the bonus round, you can beat map 2 and go to the second bonus round, etc. It's possible a code exists that will take you straight to the bonus round of your choice, but I haven't figured it out yet.)

If you guys are still interested in a Super Sonic Mode category, I'm down to add it. Normally we don't do NG+ runs in S2 because you still start each act with 0 rings, but since the Sega Ages mode starts you with 50 rings, it completely changes things. I would like to have at least one submitted run before adding it, however.

Could also just make your own category for it. Probably zero chance it would be added here, but you could always start a google doc leadboard and try to build some interest in it. But like Matsuri said, it's mostly identical to S+T, just slower in some spots.

The reason is the left's lack of work ethic ('go fast' rather than 'do it right') and, in a Petersonian sense, to elevate alternative sexual archetypes in the marketplace ('fastest mario') 1/14 Obviously, there are exceptions to this and some people more in the center or right also "speedrun". However, they more than sufficient to prove the rule, rather than contrast it.

Consider how woke GDQ has been, almost since the very beginning. Your eyes will start to open. 2/14 Returning to the topic of the work ethic...

A "speedrunner" may well spend hours a day at their craft, but this is ultimately a meaningless exercise, since they will ultimately accomplish exactly that which is done in less collective time by a casual player. 3/14 This is thus a waste of effort on the behalf of the "speedrunner". Put more simply, they are spending their work effort on something that someone else has already done (and done in a way deemed 'correct' by the creator of the artwork).

Why do they do this? 4/14 The answer is quite obvious if you think about it. The goal is the illusion of speed and the desire (SUBCONSCIOUS) to promote radical leftist, borderline Communist ideals of how easy work is.

Everyone always says that "speedruns" look easy. That is part of the aesthetic. 5/14 Think about the phrase "fully automated luxury Communism" in the context of "speedrunning" and I strongly suspect that things will start to 'click' in your mind.

6/14 What happens to the individual in this? Individual accomplishment in "speedrunning" is simply waiting for another person to steal your techniques in order to defeat you.

Where is something like "intellectual property" or "patent" in this necessarily communitarian process? 7/14 Now, as to the sexual archetype model and 'speedrunning' generally...

If you have any passing familiarity with Jordan Peterson's broader oeuvre and of Jungian psychology, you likely already know where I am going with this.

However, I will say more for the uninitiated. 8/14 Keep this passage from Maps of Meaning (91) in mind:

"The Archetypal Son... continually reconstructs defined territory, as a consequence of the 'assimilation' of the unknown [as a consequence of 'incestuous' (that is, 'sexual' – read creative) union with the Great Mother]" 9/14 In other words, there is a connection between 'sexuality' and creativity that we see throughout time (as Peterson points out with Tiamat and other examples).

In the sexual marketplace, which archetypes are simultaneously deemed the most creative and valued the highest? 10/14 The answer is obviously entrepreneurs like Elon Musk and others.

Given that we evolved and each thing we do must have an evolutionary purpose (OR CAUSE), what archetype is the 'speedrunner' engaged in, who is accomplishing nothing new? 11/15 They are aiming to make a new sexual archetype, based upon 'speed' rather than 'doing things right' and refuse ownership of what few innovations they can provide to their own scene, denying creativity within their very own sexual archetype.

This is necessarily leftist. 12/15 The obvious protest to this would be the 'glitchless 100% run', which in many ways does aim to play the game 'as intended' but seems to simply add the element of 'speed' to the equation.

13/15 This objection is ultimately meaningless when one considers how long a game is intended to be played, in net, by the creators, even when under '100%' conditions. There is still time and effort wasted for no reason other than the ones I proposed above.

14/15 By now, I am sure that I have bothered a number of you and rustled quite a few of your feathers.

I am not saying that 'speedrunning' is bad, but rather that, thinking about the topic philosophically, there are dangerous elements within it.

What if the dude has more cheated runs in his catalog? How would we ever find the other ones in that giant pile of obscure categories? You just happened to find four needles in a haystack and now you're gunna go "Yup found em all, great job boys"? There are almost certainly more needles in there, and even with a herculean effort to re-verify all 1,600+ runs there's no way they'll all be found. I'm of the opinion that he should be permabanned, but at a bare minimum this guy needs to be stripped of his records and forced to start from square one. TBH I don't understand how that point isn't immediately obvious.

I also want to mention that this guy potentially has valuable information that might help him cheat more runs in the future. If he does have more undiscovered cheated runs out there he now has a better picture of what works and what does not. Maybe some techniques have slipped by and others haven't, or maybe he's gotten away with this in smaller categories that have less scrutiny. He might be like "Okay they're good about finding the stolen runs but they haven't found my spliced/TAS/whatever runs" and use that information to get even more cheated runs on SRC.

Just... ban the guy. It's not a hard decision.
