Congrats on the PB

It appears Takeas_Realm has gotten some sort of site-wide ban.

NorwayRubicate7 months ago

It's been 16 days and still no response. Did you get any answer on your PM?

NorwayRubicate8 months ago

I feel that's a bit overkill, I'll live with the categories like they are :)

NorwayRubicate8 months ago

That's fair. I think if I were setting it up from the very start I would have gone with time being at the credits, but the way we have it now is fine too.

NorwayRubicate8 months ago

I very much agree it's within the current rules, and you make a good argument as to why it should stay that way.

Part of the issue that makes me a bit uneasy comes from the fact that you can't trigger the credit screen, which is the way the game is setup: you defeat the enemies, then you leave the temple, that's how you win the game. In fact, most speedrun rules end the timer when you hit the credit screen, and some clever speedrunners even exploit this by doing "credit warps" and the like. It's the standard way of doing things.

We are however doing it differently by ending the timer when the final attack hits the final enemy of the run, and you don't even need to wait for the boss death animation to play out, much less make it over to the credit screen.

But overall I don't have a super strong objection to keeping it this way, it's just a bit of a weird situation overall. If somebody were to load up your savefile after you complete your speedrun it wouldn't look like you actually beat the game.

The best comparison I can think about are other games where you have a progress percentage on your savefile like Super Metroid or Donkey Kong Country, it increments as you beat bosses and get collectables. It would be kinda weird if their 100% category ended their save-file at 16% progression when the run was over, because have they actually done a "100% run"?

https://www.speedrun.com/sinjid_shadow_of_the_warrior/runs/y8k3llxy

SizoQ has a spicy new glitched Sinjid run which uses some unothodox strategies to run faster. It's a very impressive run, but some of the tricks utilized might be brushing up against the rules, so we figured we should have a talk about it.

The most important trick in question here is that SizoQ switches from one enemy to the next right after killing them, which fulfills the rule requirement of "An opponent is only considered defeated once dead". But because SizoQ does this, they never ends up actually marking the opponent as "defeated" in the game engine itself. The downside with this is that the portals won't be marked as being fully completed/defeated, and the player can't exit the Shadow Temple to trigger the credit screen.

So the question is, is this a problem? I honestly could go either way on this: On one hand, opponents and monsters are being defeated, which is the actual challenging content that we speedrunners are competing against. On the other hand, the game/savefile itself will not consider the game beaten, as the portals are still undefeated and the credit screen cannot be triggered. Does it qualify as a 100% runthough of the game?

Please share your viewpoints here!

NorwayRubicate8 months ago

I am honestly not sure, but you are right, I'll make a forum post about it.

NorwayRubicate8 months ago

Hmmm, I understand, and that does make sense, but does the game consider itself beaten? Can you trigger the credit screen by trying to leave the Shadow Temple?

NorwayRubicate8 months ago

Congrats on the run, but, hum, are you sure the way you are doing it is legitimate? I see the trick you are using, starting the next monster battle ultra quick right after the previous monster is defeated, it's a clever technique for saving time.

But if you were to visit the monster portal and try to enter it, would it say that it's been fully defeated? I was under the impression that if you switch the battle around mid-way like this without fully leaving and entering the portal, the portal victory progression won't actually be incremented, and you won't have 100%'d the game.

As long as he has to come clean I'm satisfied, not a fan of forgiving a person still actively working to hide their wrongdoing. I'm still gonna notify other moderators though so they can make their own decision, unless takeas_realm has some very good reason as to why I shouldn't.

NorwayRubicate8 months ago

Thanks! It was fun and crazy figuring out how the game opens up with more skill points and levels. The only real barrier was low Speed which results in a lot of attacks missing, but fortunately I get enough gold to grab items to combat the issue. :D

I want to add that I realize my response is rather harsh, but I really don't want newcomers to think that cheating is kinda acceptable and that the "first infraction is free, so it's safe to try."

I am also planning on getting in touch with the moderators of the other games he speedruns and informing them that he has been caught cheating at one occasion, and tried to cover it up. I will wait a week to let takeas_realm get a chance to reply first though.

I think the two of you are being too lenient, consider the following:

Takeas_Realm's video is titled WORLD RECORD! and has a lot of comments congratulating them which they happily accepts to shower in the praise. This was a clear and deliberate attempt to unjustly grab the glory of the world record using illegitimate methods, with deliberate intent.

Let's be honest, Sinjid is not a competitive game, getting the WR is not that crazy of an achievement, you can copy the current WR's strategy and grind it for a few hours and you are likely to get a lucky run at some point that wins by a few seconds. I can understand that if you are grinding for weeks upon weeks, months upon months, somebody might be tempted to cheat to get the time they feel they "deserved" if not for bad RNG, but this is not the case here.

When Wiffus called them out Takeas_Realm deleted the comment rather than coming clean. That's a MAJOR red flag, and tells me this isn't some old mistake that happened in a moment of weakness, Takeas_Realm is willing to keep using dishonest methods, here, today, right now.

I honestly find it a bit baffling that the only interaction we have had from Takeas_Realm is a coverup attempt, and the responses are "let's forgive him!". That speaks well to your characters, and I applaud that you want to heal the situation and move on, but cmon, the guy hasn't even apologized. That's too lenient, and will encourage more cheating.

That being said, if you two still have the same opinion, I will defer to your judgement, but I seriously think you are setting yourself up to be exploited, we don't even know if his other runs are legit or just spliced better. Is the theory that he just spliced one World Record video, got away with it, and then decided to play straight from now on?

I would personally recommend a lifetime ban, reduced to a year if he comes clean and confesses any other faked runs, but upgraded to lifetime ban again if it turns out some of his other runs are spliced without him telling.

I'm looking at his run but not seeing it, do you mean 22:27 by takaes_realm's timer or 22:27 in the youtube video?

Rewinding a minute behind both, this is what I see:

I see him having going from 3607 gold, and after killing the Semi Demon he goes to 3907 gold.

Then after defeating the Flesh Fiend he goes to 4407 gold.

He appears to be wearing a headband throughout this minute, no change there.

Can you be a bit more specific exactly what's happening at when Wiffus?

NorwayRubicate9 months ago

more consistent than Avenger since it doesn’t rely on HP that fills every time your character levels up :)

I have found a way around that for the glitch run, by quickly hitting Ctrl+Enter on the exp screen you can stop yourself from leveling up, and thus not be healed. I'm gonna try to do a pure Avenger run to get a lower time.

The same isn't possible in the glitchless run, but there is one method that might show promise: If you remove your shield and intentionally die in battle, you can click Retry and respawn with exactly 1 life. Equip your shield, drink mana potions, and you are good for using Avenger again until the next level up. The lost time in intentionally dying might be too costy time-wise though.

NorwayRubicate9 months ago

Congrats! Mana Bomb is an interesting choice, I always figured it was strictly inferior since you have to refill your mana repeatedly. I can see the merit of getting way earlier than Avenger though, due to the lower level requirement.

NorwayRubicate9 months ago

Yes, without those tricks speeding up the process it I'm not sure I'd actually end up saving time. I only beat the non-glitch record by 45 seconds, so despite the overwhelming advantage of having unlimited skillpoints the time it takes to grind those skillpoints eats up most of the time you are saving.

NorwayRubicate9 months ago

We can start with just SizoQ, I'm sure he will do a great job.

NorwayRubicate9 months ago

I am okay with taking on the mantle, but as the newcommer I defer to SizoQ or somebody else who has been into this game for longer, I just started doing runs a week ago.
