I was looking into that with frame advance. It seems that Pete cannot hurt you during the jumping animation for some reason, which sucks because that's what I was thinking: get damaged by Pete while facing left near the top of his hitbox, to get pushed on the crates by the damage animation. If we get damaged by him on the ground, we do not have enough height. We also do not get enough height by simply jumping on him.
