First time I had a shot at a WR, power went out when I only had about 5 minutes left in the run. Sad days.

Im gonna elaborate on what Emerald a bit. I "pick up" new games almost monthly. Most of them get dropped by the end of the month because I just wasn't feeling it or it didn't click with me. There are even a handful of games I absolutely HATE as casual playthroughs but I'm still looking at as a potential speedrun (i call it spiterunning) because they have cool strats that i'm interested in. Might drop them, might stick. Who knows.

Just do it. Pick up a game, try out the run. If it doesn't click, try a different game.

Hi! I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear! (I am so sorry. I had to.)

Personally, I wouldn't allow it but like Taru said, its on a per community basis. If there isn't a CD or DVD disc involved, it will likely have better load times over original hardware.

Some games are nearly glitchless, Shovel Knight for example has one very minor glitch that is used one time. other than that its just going fast. Some games, like Donkey Kong 64, are a cluster of continuous glitches.

You would be more likely to get an solid answer over at the Minecraft forum.

I'm gonna shill a bit here but Strider (NES) is a short run that has some great tutorials and how to's. I've been running the game for about a month now and it's been super simple to pick up.

Well let's break this down and see if we can't get these questions answered, eh?

1.) As far as what games to try out, honestly you can speedrun just about anything. Some genres don't really lend themselves to speed (visual novels, guitar hero, ect) but to be fair that doesn't stop people from trying. You mentioned Celeste. Celeste is an amazing speed game without a doubt, but i personally recommend starting with a game you have beaten before. It's a lot easier to understand the game and how the run works when you have played through the game already.

2.) For timing, as long as you have an accurate timer it will be fine. Even if you have to re-time the run after you finished, it should still be fine. Most communities don't require the timer to be on screen so I wouldn't worry too much about that. A lot of us do have a timer on screen because we stream our attempts and it's good for the viewers. Using a timer on your phone or something would be fine for you to see how your pace is or what your final time is.

I hope that answered your questions. I'm sure some others will have more insight as well.

I mean, you could check out Darksiders. I don't know how optimized the run is right now but it's definitely a smaller community than Zelda and I've called Darksiders "Edgy Zelda" since the first time I played it.

Right now I am playing around with a couple different games to see if any of them stick for me. Code Vein, Monster Rancher 3, and Devil May Cry

Honestly, I started speedrunning to try and save money by getting more longevity out of my games. A couple hundred dollars in capture equipment later, I'm not sure that actually worked but I'm having fun so yea.

Do you like resetting? extreme RNG? Do you like Menuing? Do you like spending minimal time actually battling? Do you like borderline animal abuse?

Well do I have the game for you! Check out Monster Rancher 2! Or any of the Monster Rancher games really.

Visual novels for the most part, imo.

While there is no harm is asking, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

That being said, who knows. Maybe someone will see this post and it will pique their interest. Again, no promises.
