Hey all,
I'm currently playing this game for the first time and really enjoying it, so I came around here to see how the speedrun is and it looks really neat! Is there any written-down information out there about how any of this stuff works though? (Pause jump, RNG manipulation, general routing). Would be super interested!
Thanks! <3
In case you didn't see it in the resources section, here's the discord for odin sphere speedrun chat:
See you there! <3333<33<3
I've got the steam versions, though sadly they instantly crash for me on startup :'( which is why I'm going to go with emu at the moment. If you know anything about that let me know though! <3 thank you
Hey folks,
What are the legal SNES emulators for running this game? Would like to get into that.
Thanks! -Me
Hey everybody!
I thought it would be a good idea to have a master thread of any commentated speedruns that happen, for the benefit of people learning the game. This is that thread! Will break it down by category, I suppose.

Requesting mod of https://www.speedrun.com/odin
I'm currently the only runner of this game, and I've been trying to get my run verified for over a week now, with very spotty response (couple days between each message) from the mod. After some back and forth over several days it seems like they rejected my run because I run on a platform that's not listed on the game's page (ps3 virtual/"ps2 classics" edition - with the original version being a ps2 game).
Rather than add that platform for runs to be able to be submitted under, they decided to add a brand new category for "ps3 version of one of the already existing 6 categories" specifically for my run, which is completely unnecessary, as the runs are the same across versions. He cited the ps3 version being faster as the reason, but this doesn't really make sense, as the precedent has already been set by basically every other speedgame that simply having a faster console version does not warrant the creation of a separate category. It's just kinda wack leaderboard management.
I asked about resolving this issue and being made a mod myself since I'm the only runner, but I haven't gotten a response for a couple days now. There's also a language barrier between us, which makes things even more difficult/complicated, so I'm not really sure what to do about the situation overall. I'd like to be able to get my run up there and try and start getting other folks involved in the game and such, but I feel like since the leaderboards are all messed up and whatnot and the only mod is fairly inactive/disinterested seeming it's all just kinda on hold and it's a drag.
What is to be done?
shiko: I sent you a message on youtube. we probably shouldn't clog up this thread with unrelated discussion.
I think the platform has to be added first - it doesn't let me select ps3 for the platform when I try and submit a run, which is why I didn't do so the first time around.
Was doing a run attempt when suddenly, during the general brigan fight, I opened the psypher skill menu at the same time as being hit by his grab attack. This froze brigan in the start of the grab animation and catapulted me into the air, getting me stuck in midair but also fully actionable. Here's a video:
I could freely do attacks, etc, while in this state. When I opened the menu again and did a phozon burst, I was brought back down, brigan was unfrozen, and the attack continued.
I'm thinking this could have a practical application to speed up the brigan fight. If it turns out you can close the menu fast enough to hover in the air right next to brigan, and brigan can be attacked and take damage during this frozen state, you could just sit there and spam attacks at him while he's a sitting duck unable to fight back. If this works, the optimal brigan fight would probably be 4x phozon burst to remove his armour, followed by trying to get grabbed and activate this glitch to kill him easily.
Will test. If anybody else finds cool stuff with this glitch, please post away! <3 in any case it's a neat thing
Heyhey!
I was wondering if we could add the digital/PSN "ps2 classics" PS3 version of this game to the platforms list for runs. I'm running on this version personally, as it appears to save a ton of time by cutting down on a lot of the lag in the game. Not sure if it's the fastest version of the game, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. Highly recommended!
Best, -Me
