Hey HiddenProject

No route is any safer than others, there are some safer approaches to fights, but the route doesn't affect safety.

There isn't a proven fastest route. It's probably between MPU and MizzTako for fastest. Most top runners are using MPU, there hasn't been a good run of MizzTako yet. One is no Tantarian Night, the other is Tantarian Night.

Luz uses MPU.

If you want notes, you're honestly best off making your own. I don't think there are public and up to date versions of MPU. MizzTako can be found in the FF9 section of my Discord if you wanna use that.

Hope that helps you out.

If you want to do Tantarian, I'd recommend mine and Mizzow's route. If you want to do no Tantarian, I'd recommend MPU's route. If you want to do Tantarian without Night, I'd recommend my version of it.

I believe these to be the most optimised routes of the game. My notes for Tantarian Night and Nightless can be found in my Discord, or I can PM them to anyone. I have really outdated notes for MPU route as I don't run it, but you could ask around or make your own notes from the NA record and ask questions to runners of the category.

I wouldn't worry in the slightest about performance. Zer0 I have seen doing some any% lately, not sure about other runners, work keeps me pretty busy. I'll be doing some practice streams of it periodically this month. I'm not a good runner of the game, but I have the fundamentals down. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Just to throw in 2 cents for actual capture. I do not think the GV USB is the best card for retro capture. From my experience and talking to people in the R3 Discord (They have a capture thread, people who do tech for the likes of ESA and NASA etc. are in it) and a Datapath E1S should provide the best capture for this. It takes DVI in and you'll want to capture using RGB, which can get complicated pretty quick, so I wouldn't necessarily advise it if you aren't worried about having the best video quality.

Also, it's an internal card and I don't know anything about Mac capture, so that might not even be an option. For external cards the GV USB is great and I absolutely rate it. I used an Elgato Game Capture Pro for a good while and it does the job fine. Honestly, the biggest difference is what type of cable you use to capture, over the card. S-Video and Component cables are way better than composite for example. Happy to talk capture any time if you get into that kinda stuff :)

XII community is absolutely top tier, so like Harvey said, give anyone a shout and we'll be happy to help! Would be great to see more people streaming if it ever takes your fancy

I personally use PSXFin 1.13. Works really great for PS1 FFs. There are no rules as to which emulator you can use, so it is entirely up to the runner. Just things like not using speedups.

You can play on keyboard, you can change the resolution. I don't think there is anything against using texture packs, but I wouldn't advise it.

The only time emulator versions really come into play is when loading times are comparable or faster than console. As emulator is definitely slower in this case, just do your thing.

We route gil very specifically to have between 4000 and 4399 at the Mideel shop before return to Condor. This allows us to buy four boulders exactly and nothing else. If you have more money you need to buy more units. Boulders are great because you can destroy them. Man units, or like humanesque units have to walk all the way down and be destroyed, super slow. If you run out of money and have no units the game ends. Hope that answers everything!

tl:dr, have between 4000 and 4399 GIL at the end of Mideel shop!

Out of curiosity, why have you chosen to use these notes?

discussione: Final Fantasy IX
IrelandMetako5 years ago

If the notes say

  • Keep

rather than

  • Sell

then anything not in the keep list gets sold. As an FYI consumables aren't generally sold unless specifically stated. It's usually only tents and phoenix pinions that get sold in mid to late game. Who's notes are you using? I can have a look just to make sure if you link them or paste the first bit.

My understanding of what you're saying is about getting groupie to play the right cards. To ensure you get a good pattern you need to confirm the card game on the first, second or third frame possible. Each of these will give you a good pattern. Choosing the correct cards is also important (Geez/Fung/Gayla/Fast/Cat).

Frame 1 yields Elastoid - This is the card you look for Frame 2 yields Marlboro - This is the card you look for Frame 3 yields Biggs/Wedge - This is the card you look for.

Once you have a good pattern you just play your cards in precise positions. My notes describe it thus:

Elastoid - Gayla mid top - Cat mid right - Fung right bot - Fast left top Marlboro - Fung right mid - Gayla right bot - Fast mid bot - Geez top mid Biggs/Wedge - Fung right top - Fast mid - Gayla - right bot - Cat - left mid

Also, the long document about card manipulation has this information if you read through it thoroughly. Let me know if this doesn't work for you. All the best!

There are a number of things to consider with step count. Best advice I can give is choose whatever route you are going to learn and figure out what step options you have, using the fastest video of that route as a reference. For example, Kart's Any% No Slots step route is different to Luzbel's. Likewise, Any% and Any% No Slots can differ in steps.

The next most important thing is being consistent in counting steps. As Arithium has said, Cloud will always start walking with his left foot. However, if you start walking by letting go of X from a run, he will walk with his right. Barret starts with his right from still etc. Know what the steps look like and be consistent. Also worth mentioning is understanding how steps work. The first visible step on the screen does not account for a full step as far as step counting goes. So, where Kart's step guide says 24 steps at the start, it is 24 physical steps and only 23 full steps. Some runners count these differently, so make sure you know what is what. Like I said, be consistent.

There are ways to recover your stepcount if you get behind, and sometimes you will need to walk extra if you are too far ahead of your stepcount. Ask knowledgeable runners is your best bet. Do your best to learn it, and become proficient. The better movement, the better the run anyway. Don't be afraid to ask people and learn from things. If it goes wrong, ask someone to have a look at it. My biggest recommendation would be to ask Meesbaker. He has more knowledge of steps in FFVII in terms of runners than anyone I know.

Stick at it, don't panic and do well!!

Hi all,

Just wanted to say that for simplification reasons there is a group chat in Discord that anyone and everyone is welcome to join to discuss the future of All Bosses as a category. The aim for this is to have one central place where everyone can openly discuss the category and prevent any posts and comments from being lost or unseen. If you would like to be added, please let me know and I will make sure you are!

My Discord handle is: Metako#1683

Really pleased to see a new run with the current ruleset! I am currently waiting for a reroute to do attempts myself, but as soon as things are concrete and routing is sufficient I will be doing runs.

In our call the other day, we agreed that suiciding was fine for Steiner 3, but not Steiner 2. The reason being, we agreed that you should defeat every boss encounter the way the game intends. This allows for waiting out Beatrix 1,2, and 3. We also agreed on fighting all three Red Dragon fights, not just the one mandatory. Also, Armodullahan has similar properties to Zaghnol in terms of qualifying for a boss, so we have said engage and fleeing is fine. This goes nicely with how the game intends. It's all in the spreadsheet. There are four new fights I think and about two/three that now need to be defeated differently from any%. I hope we can all agree on these. Mizzow is also rerouting chocobos and frogs. It's very exciting. We collaborated on Ozma%, and this all bosses route looks really nice. Hope to see your comments on it in Discord!

Ps. Heavy status is a status certain enemies have. Most undeniable bosses have it, but some normal enemies do to. We were hoping for an easy description for what a boss is, but the heavy status did not qualify.

Is there a platform we can talk dynamically and not in single posts. If we have to wait for days and days between posts it'll waste so much time. Discord would be much much better, like I PM'd you, Serge (mine is discord.gg/metako for reference). We need a set definition for what a boss is and what defeating a boss is.

For example. does suiciding early fights count, do you defeat every enemy with the heavy status, does fleeing from Armodullahan count?

Krob doesn't have a VOD of his run anymore, so don't even think that would be a possibility for submission. I noticed your run was surprisingly fast when I watched it. If you send me your notes and let me get my time from 16:XX:XX to 14:XX:XX time I'd be happy to submit ;)

Update:

PB'd in SoTN by 20 seconds. Should be able to consistently get below 34 minutes by ESA.

Got a 9:17 marathon run of FF9 last week. Pretty terrible encounters, but average run.

Also, I will only be attending ESA from Tuesday 25 - Sunday 30. I will be arriving late afternoon on Tuesday if travel goes to plan, so if I have any runs, would it be possible to have them Wednesday onward, please?

I've been told I need to say I'm attending the event. Is this the right place to do it? I'm fine with the scheduled slot, I'll be there from Saturday evening right through.

I noticed that my SoTN Submission has successfully made it into both the Accepts and Cuts lists. Would it be possible to confirm which it is intended to be in, please?

Update on my Castlevania: SoTN submission:

I have been able to consistently get sub 18:00 runs over the past week. Half around the 17:30 mark. Should be getting sub 17:30 runs closer to the marathon. I have attached an example commentary run below. The first four minutes got chopped between streams, and I'm happy to link that, but this will give you an idea.
