The 2nd poll (might be the last one, might not) to decide the CTR Leaderboards and how it should be set up will go up at 12pm EST (4PM UK time)
The poll will be between the 2 options listed above.
just thought I would give everyone a heads up before it happens :)
Ok, so the common consensus is that either of these is the way to go.
-
Four Different subcategories, 1 for each character, Speed, Balanced, Accel, and Slow.
-
Create Variables for each different type of character.
I'm not sure if there is a compromise we can find considering how evenly spread this poll is, or if we should go with variables, but again, I will wait for the community's call on that instead of jumping right into any decisions.
One thing I feel like I must say though, and this is by no means calling anyone out, as either 1. You're not in the Crash discord to hear about stuff, or 2. You simply were not around to hear this, but I did give everyone 2 weeks notice that this would happen, and if anyone had said no, this wouldn't have gone ahead, but for some reason, no one said anything until the boards were already up. It would have saved me and the other mods a lot of time.
Either way, that doesn't matter now, because now we're making progress. so, anyone have any compromises or further suggestions?

The justification is what I said earlier, the fact that it opens up opportunities to play the game differently, and it also acts as a motivator, which I'm sorry to say, but variables would not and do not motivate people. I have had numerous people say already that there fans of this change, but at the same time there has been opposition to it, hence why we're gonna have a poll. But as I said before, if people are happy with just variables, then so am I.
I think this should be mentioned just for the record, in the last day, 3 runs have been submitted to the "Balanced" Leaderboards, these runs would have absolutely not happened if these changes hadn't been made, and its cool to see these changes making a positive impact and creating more ways for people to have fun with the game, that is all.
so tl:dr is hell yeah, lets have a poll. Thanks for the responses :)
Ok, so the main reason that variables were disregarded was due to the not only "-" but also due to the fact that separate leaderboards create more of a motivation for runners to try the different characters and optimize them (that and the moment I mentioned this idea, everyone seemed in agreement, hence why we decided to implement it) HOWEVER, i only did this because I thought I was representing the community's best interests, and therefore I would be more than happy to have a poll go forward, as once again, this is about the community.
(The reason the variables were not used was because srcom is fun and if u had 4 runs with 4 different characters, 3 of your runs would have the ugly looking "-". As well as this having different leaderboards is just easier to see, and as well as this it will generate more motivation for people to do runs with different characters.)
yes u can, but it has to be somewhat clear. (so we can actually see the gameplay, as some phone cameras make the screen really bright and unwatchable) on an unrelated note, having the timer on screen is not necessary but it makes it easy to see if the time u have submitted is actually correct.
The rules section should tell u all u need to know about submitting runs and how stuff works in terms of submitting
also yes, I agree that it if the community agrees that it's NG+ then it shouldn't even be on the boards, coz like lol there's barely any difference.
Okay, one last argument, then I will let it rest,
New Game + is using an outside file from the original within the confines of that category. If you were to do an All Cups run, you wouldn't say that is New Game + cause when starting the run to the end, you aren't switching a file or skipping to a later accessible area. If it were, you would enter the 1st cup, immediately leave and head straight to the final cup since fuck it, it is available at that moment. We never do that in 101 since we only use that 1 file from Adventure and nothing from the other 3 is loaded in, its just an odd effect from the glitch we do.
But again, as I say, if the community doesn't want it, then I'm game.
hmm, but with that theory, shouldn't all cups be NG+ coz Penta?
Either way, I think were at the stage where we have settled on the idea that NG+ would be cool, if it was more timesave than this, right?
I still disagree, but if the community is content with this being only ok for NG+ related things, then so am I
So with the new foundings over the past 2 weeks a debate may be started as to the validation of the new route, as it saves approximately 1 min in 101% and Max%, however it takes advantage of your memory cards state.
What happens is the game takes your file with the highest percentage and attributes it to the file you are currently on, however this only lasts for 1 event, then things return to normal. A more concise but perhaps more rambling explanation will be posted here:
In my opinion, this is in no way an invalid route, as since the findings of 2016, we have been abusing memory cards in these categories already, so this is not new, and therefore should not be banned.
Furthermore, the idea of this trick being similar to NG+ is a valid one, however I would suggest otherwise, considering during the timed run, only the file you started the game with is used.
This is a completely different case to games like banjo-kazooie for example as consoles do not lose time to others with this glitch, and the setup for the memory card is literally the easiest thing ever, so it's still accessible to everyone (also worth enforcing that once again we have been abusing the state of memory cards in 101% since 2016.)
So yeah, that’s just my opinion, feel free to post your own, and we can debate here :)
Pull kinda brushed on this but a fat ps2 console is better than a slim for ctr, contrary to most other ps1 games
