we kind of already have this, the Commentary Enabled category in the miscellaneous tab is less than a minute long but uses speedrun mode. its going to be patched but previous versions of the game should be obtainable if people really wanted to keep running it, which i think is preferable due to how much less complicated timing with IGT is

howdy, the idea of a segmented run was brought up recently and there are a couple of things that should be taken into consideration if people start progress on it.

first of all, as far as i know, coins you obtain after you've loaded a save disappear when you quit without saving and load it again. keeping that in mind the most efficient method to progress in the run is to have each participant focus on recording the same segment (be it travel, mission, menuing, etc) and the runner with the most optimal time uploads their save for everyone else so they can move on to the next segments, storing their footage somewhere safe and keeping a copy of each save in case of major changes. also, for presentation purposes, each runner should be using the same resolution to play the game in, only capturing the game and no splits, facecams or voice.

the best way to tackle the coin route problem is for runners to perform 2 or 3 sample "all story missions" runs where they remove strats that include going significantly out of their way just to collect coins and once sufficient test runs have been finished, tally up the average coin count by level 7, compare time:coins ratios for each significant coin detour and add them in where appropriate. coins you would leave behind include, for example, flanders' yard, krustylu, most vending machines that cant be acquired otherwise during downtime, etc. if not enough coins in a particular level can be acquired to afford necessary clothing/vehicles then naturally the test route will be amended to allow the collection of enough coins and then tried again. (the final time wont matter as long as runners just complete the missions as they usually would while getting coins that are in or around their path)

in test runs, all coins gained from the destruction of free bees should be removed from the final coin count as all free bees possible will be obtained during the segmented run anyway.

once the final average coin count has been calculated and the extra coins added in (including free bees), the coin route will probably just play off of however many coins the runner in the previous segment ended with and, if enough coins are collected already, some detours can be removed.

furthermore, to ensure optimal coin collection, getting hit and run should not be actively avoided, if the opportunity presents itself to drive into something for coins and it doesnt slow you down significantly, it should be taken regardless of hit and run meter. the destruction of cars in missions where you primarily follow a car should also be considered.

runners should be performing optimal strats despite how difficult or inconsistent they may be and effort should be made to find better ones in the process.

lastly, in most cases a segment should begin immediately after the loading screen and to end the segment, runners should continue to select the next mission (or travel to it) and keep going as normal until the previously explained start of the next segment before saving so they can be edited together seamlessly, for example the player recording the last mission of a level must also get the cutscene skip (keeping in mind to pick "no" when asked if they want to save as usual), begin the next level and THEN save it.

some segments will be particularly brutal and the project as a whole will likely take months to complete although it is entirely up to the runners if they want to do it at all.
