What is your speedrunning style?
When do you choose to reset, when do you think a run is worth finishing?
I ask because my preferred way of speedrunning tends to be different to other people: the first few runs I prefer never to reset. After that, once I have a semi-okay sum of best, I speedrun until my "best possible time" is worse than my PB. If that happens, I am okay with resetting, unless I know there's a big gold coming up. This means (in theory) that 99% of my runs make it past the first quarter of the run every single time, but it also means I have smaller PBs. This personally makes speedrunning much more fun to me, rather than resetting because I missed a trick in the first split. Obviously this wouldn't be applicable at WR-level to a game like SMB1 where missing a frame rule is an automatic reset, or when your runs are so optimized that a death is automatically a reset.
(I say "in theory" because I do tend to reset if I'm moody and therefore more prone to getting angry, lol)
My problem with the ads is that the ads constantly reload every 30 seconds and my old crappy laptop lags a lot when using the site. Now it's just a force of habits to use an adblocker lol. Maybe the site fixed this issue in the meantime but I don't care enough to find out.
Not a popular game, the Any% category has 13 people who have submitted a time (excluding the 2 or 3 people who deleted their runs, although one of those I believe was a fake time lol but I'm not going to get into that), but for Mario & Luigi: Dream Team I am the only person to have submitted a speedrun for All Bosses. I've finished 3 runs, 4 if you count my very first speedrun of this game which was untimed RTA and more segmented.
More importantly however, although this does not have video as I didn't want to record (it was planned from the get-go I'll do it in multiple days because I wanted to be there emotionally for someone but still do the run), I did a 100% speedrun of the game which involved achieving a bunch of stuff including getting 1 of each gear. The IGT was 35:55 (36 hours) while the RTA, as it was done across multiple days, was exactly 83:26:37 (3 sessions of like 10 hours, 8 hours and 15 hours or something, the details are fuzzy its been 2 years (December 2020)).
Although I did use a cheat code at some point as I had softlocked the speedrun due to sequence breaking in the wrong order, making 100% impossible. Also skipped one of the requirements because my 2DS was broken and it was physically impossible to achieve it.
I do plan on doing a full, non-cheated, complete 100% speedrun with the same requirements on video with capture card one day. Single segment, no sleep. I did, after all, promise this 8 years ago: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/mario_and_luigi_dream_team_bros._127.html#mario_and_luigi_dream_team_bros._127
And I want to be a man of my word in this one specific case.
https://www.speedrun.com/mldt/runs/z513njjm - Mario & Luigi: Dream Team in 7:54:12 (actually it was 7:58:00 before runs were retimed due to new timing method ending time earlier), on January 15 2016, however this run has no video and is not my first run. I had runs from August 2015 to July 2018 that were all deleted back in July 2018.
https://www.speedrun.com/mldt/runs/m3o1podm - Mario & Luigi: Dream Team in 5:53:00, the earliest run with video, and the only surviving run with video from before July 2018, is from August 3rd 2017. The earliest run I remember recording and submitting was Super Mario World 11 Exit in 13:06 on August 10ish 2015, however I did a few other runs before that I can't remember.
My earliest run I remember ever doing was back in like 2010, Astro Boy: Omega Factor "Birth" & "Rebirth" categories (I did not know of the True Ending at the time) in like an hour, and my first timed run was Kirby's Return to Dream Land back in April 2015, with a time of around 2:55ish.
I do have a spreadsheet with a list of all speedruns I could find a precise time and date for, it's a pretty neat spreadsheet. Feel free to copy it and use it for yourself, but if you find any bugs or have any feature requests, I'm not adding it. If I make a proper thing for public use it would be a website rather than a spreadsheet.

The spreadsheet is pretty awesome though. It features almost all my finished full-game runs from August 2015 up until today, including non-PB runs. A few old times were irrecoverable, and the old videos are definitely irrecoverable, but the week of effort I put in the spreadsheet was worth it to have a pretty interesting history of my speedruns. Didn't include any ILs though, but I do have a different spreadsheet specifically for Kirby's Arena speedruns which took like 2 weeks of effort to create, though no one uses it despite how useful it is :(
I'm going to share that Kirby spreadsheet too because that one I did put effort in for other people to use but no one ended up using it I don't think, though I've gone a tiny bit off topic. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fSO82md8ACKL32HpLiw4DBuGhihLsSmhJqjJUE1Aa_I/edit?usp=sharing
Okay, that's all. I've said and shared everything I've wanted to say and share.
53:xx in Donkey Kong Country 2 GBA and maybe get WR back, but I'm rusty af and my best time since coming back to the game the past week (and my only time) was a 1:04:04 which is uh, 9:30 slower than my PB lmao. I'm confident I can get it back though
Apparently I replied a year and a half ago and failed the first run that came to my mind while reading the name of this topic. I once submitted a speedrun to New Super Mario Bros. DS, Any%, it was my first run and without video. This was during a time I still lived with my parents, and so I had to go eat dinner midway through. The run was rejected for "not being a serious run" because I mentioned I ate spaghetti in the middle of the run. Sorry for not submitting a 100% serious speedrun! Personally, I speedrun for fun, so I think that is a terrible and stupid rejection reason.
Okay... Here's just one question before we look at anything else: are you going to do at least 2 speedruns of this category? I ask because a lot of people suggest a 100% speedrun category without ever actually doing one themselves, I only know 2 people who've done any kind of 100% speedrun of the Mario & Luigi games
(Also I think 100% musics including bowser's minions (especially because there's no Bowser's Minions category), and the things that can only be done once (EGadd drinks, collecting the highest reward of minigames (Casual Coral, for example; getting 9 Hee Beans isn't collecting it once but IMO I still think it adds to the run to do these)) should be included if I were to do a run. If there's a rank system like in BIS through PJ, get highest rank too (note: I would not be doing a run for a while if I were to do one))
Just noticed this is just a reply to a thread lol but whatever.
At that point just call it All Bosses, and beat all the bosses available along with the Gauntlet, similar to how Dream Team's All Bosses does it. I mean, you're close to beating the game anyway if you beat the gauntlet. Might as well add an extra boss and beat the final bosses too for the All Bosses completion. Only difference between Dream Team and this game's All Bosses is that Dream Team has many glitches, while this game only has one.
Though I don't mind if the mods here decide not to do this, what I personally do in the GBA game I moderate (Donkey Kong Country 2 GBA) is, if a run on DS is submitted, I recalculate their times from the DS' 59.6555 FPS to the GBA's 59.7275 FPS, so that you aren't at a disadvantage for running on DS. This causes a 1:17:23 run to become a 1:17:17 run.
When I am talking about the DS version, I am specifically referring to inserting the GBA game inside of a DS Phat or DS Lite console. I am NOT talking about Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minion, as that is an entirely different game with its own leaderboard page. I am assuming TurmurM is speaking of the same thing as I am, as they specifically stated DS and talking about other GBA games. They never specified 3DS, and MLSS+BM is a 3DS game, not a DS game.
(Why the hell did SR.C remove the quote function?)
Yes, you can. At least you should be allowed.
Hi. I am making this thread to post the two invite links. I have changed the invite link for DKC2GBA to be the official DKC Speedrunning Discord Server: https://discord.gg/m6s2dQX
But for preservation, I am also posting an invite to the DKC GBA Discord Server: https://discord.com/invite/PTvHU2S
I will also continue using the latter server for TAS-related stuff, as there is a #tas-science channel there. That's all, thanks!
Respectfully bring this up in a language the moderators understand in the appropriate forums, or in DM in Discord, or even in #leaderboards in the DKC Discord Server. No one here can help you. I'm going to assume they rejected the category idea because the point of RBO is to simply beat the bosses in reverse order. 101% RBO is just RBO with extra steps. Moderators however would be better able to explain the reason of rejecting the category idea. You've proven to be able to speak a decent enough English to be able to post in English, so I would recommend bringing it up to the moderators.
I just noticed you did post in the DKC forums (twice). It's not because you did not receive a response that they rejected the idea. Whining about it here does not help. Or I guess it did, because someone here is giving you advice right now (me) lol.
I used Google Translate, so I'm sorry if I misunderstood your message.
Regards, this isnt an email @Snodeca

sorry i was playing the game, hope you got that tho
Oh no, this game is turning into Donkey Kong Country 3 GBA. Run, everyone!
Although 180 Emblems has DC as its own boards, it would technically matter for DC, since it's RTA. Unless we are still going to retime runs under 12 hours (which I understand we probably won't do). But then of course, like I said, DC is its own board there, so maybe it doesn't really matter because you're not comparing to the other runs lol.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team as it is the game that taught me to not get pissed off at video games. Oh and I have dreamt about two Luigis making out on Pi'illo Island after clipping out of bounds. Am I obsessed with Dream Team? I don't know, but that dream was WEIRD.
