I've been using this AutoSplit program with my gv-usb-2 and nes and it works pretty well. Can be any game or system. If you wanted to write the AutoSplit script you just have to find reliable code changes that always happen when you beat a level etc using a hex editor. https://github.com/Toufool/AutoSplit
You can add a second window capture to get the input display by window title or capture the entire screen which is easier. Then you just drag it into view.
This is the route I took. I really wanted to do a swordless AD RMG but I couldn't figure out how :( I just think it's neat
MesenRTA has a different base memory address so it is looking for the variable in all wrong memory addresses.
oh hey dat mine, i'll see if i can make it work but i'm no tech wizard
Are cheats allowed in the Any% category? Specifically, the button combo to get all max troops.
Can we add a bomb% category? Just bombs, no tanks or guns. There's already a completed run here
@Slormer, tested today with Mesen 0.9.9 build date 2/1/2020 and verified the autosplitter is working for this version of the emulator.
Thank you so much for the feedback! I'll have to download a copy of Mesen 9.9.0 to test (I only use Nestopia or FCEUX usually) and I'll see if I can watch some other people's runs and check when their timer stops. I only play casually so wasn't 100% sure. EDIT: I updated the github repo for the Contra split condition, lmk if it looks more accurate now.
For anyone who runs this game on emulator, I made an autosplitter here https://github.com/cactuar1989/nes_autosplitters/tree/main/Contra . I don't speedrun this game so lmk if the splits are not right, especially for the last boss.
I uploaded the .asl file at https://github.com/cactuar1989/nes_autosplitters/tree/main/Ninja%20Gaiden . So far, it's working great for me because I am really bad about hitting the timer start when I need to. I've just started using it so I'm sure some more experienced people can add improvements wherever they see fit. Very new to speedrunning. If anyone wants a video lmk but probably faster to try it out.
