Been wild happenings in the game lately, came out of Any% retirement with a new glitch breakthrough in routing. The board has not had a major update since the IL's were added. Earlier in the year. However, the recent "zombie glitch" breakthrough with RTA times in Any%, has now had the rule set defined once again. If zombie is used, the save must be made during the submission.

God% has become "Cheat codes" in the Misc. tab. This allows for new kinds of runs, in an easy addition to the existing category now. All runs are still live, but now can be defined under multiple rulesets for submission.

Zombie% has now been created for new practice heights, and a far more casual version of Any% to learn and speedrun. This will allow players to use an existing zombie save for multiple attempts.

How the new Zombie glitch works: You die in level 1 the same frame you click to exit. Save game. Spawn in level 2 with 100 Health. Load save for level 2.

You get 000 health. You can't pick up keys, and enemies cannot see you. If you get crushed by a door, it lets you go through walls no problems.

Play level 2-16 with glitch enabled. Must be crushed every new level.

The first level of Episode 3 has no door, or lift, that can crush you. So you have to go to the menu and do E3 from a fresh spawn for any%.

This has proven effective with new times of 8:44 and 8:32 in the last week. I've played three total eight minute times. The first one at 8:59 was 8 months ago with a 14,300+ chance

2 in the last week with the new glitch in under 500 resets... would have never guessed it, but 7:5X territory is possible as a result. The glitch has once again had to bring an update to the leaderboard as a result. Will be listing the following changes.

"God%" has now been Redefined into "Cheat Codes".

All of the runs exist still! Players can now submit a variety of different rule sets that allow for the classic rule set of God%, Cheat%, and Zombie%.

"God%": A Distinction for runs that follow the classic ruleset for the category. Only using both codes once each, and not achieving Zombie. This allows for use of Rockets to achieve out of bounds.

"Cheat%": A Distinction for runs that allow for the use of multiple codes, but do not use Zombie glitches in the speedrun. Out of Bounds is allowed. Using the All weapons code multiple levels is allowed.

"Zombie%" Has been created as a result of discussion to make a more interesting category to watch for spectators, and for any% practice.

You start a Glitched save from Level 2, and play the game like the Any% route. E1M1 is not included in the segment.

Using Cheat Codes to get rockets in E1M1 is allowed. This is useful for setting up the save fast, and Armor is irrelevant as enemies cannot see you, you cannot take damage.

Any% has now included the rule to allow for Zombie Glitch in full game runs. Zombie glitch MUST be seen being made within the speedrun.

Any%= Getting the Zombie glitch active IN RTA. The glitch save must be made within the time the segment begins.

Zombie%= DOES NOT REQUIRE REAL TIME PERFORMANCE OF GLITCH!

E1-E3: Having a level 2 save, and playing the game the full way through.

E1: Having a level 2 save, and playing the game to the end of level 8.

E2: Having a Level 9 save, and playing the game to the end of level 16.

I've heard the entire run of flash Game & Watch titles have been archived prior to flash expiration date. Finding a way to play them back via dedicated software with the files is yet still a future possibility for the run being viable for more people to play it.

The pica version is inaccurate with item placements. I can understand the original mods intentions with keeping it "Banned" in regards of comparison with the original version.

But outright not allowing it for its own listing/category, I feel was not the answer either... I have yet to see a low% or both quests.. I have done both quests once, but deathless both quests I have yet to achieve. Low % is painful, but the real challenge run for optimizing... I feel pica could be a much more inviting category for any% players, and help the game get some more runs.

I see the new subcategories now, and think its a great layout, and having structure based on physical version differences also invites people to try out each viable version. Pica for those who can't access the GBA version or physical G&W. The next step on GBA for those who enjoy the run.

I feel like the GBA version, especially with recent resource, is about to be hype! :D

I can agree with this split. I tried reaching WR on real game & watch again months ago, and couldn't even get close.. G&W classic compared to GBA is time loss, even slightly.. it builds over time the whole runs.

Personally I feel the Pica Pic emulator version should be allowed as its own listing here. The original super mod was for banning things 100%, as opposed to just making things their own specific category.

I don't own the game and watch anymore. I can't unlock the GBA version because G&W gallery 4 sucks, and is way to much work to unlock a hidden game.

The Pica Pic version, while not 100% accurate in layout, would make the game a lot more inviting to play for more people. Its obvious when someone is playing the Picapic version... so why not have it included?

Have played this game since day one, and well past the Halo 3 beta.. lol

One of the highlight features of this game is Key to the City, a mode where player defined level upgrades, god mode, and full city wide access to supply points is available in the first minute of play.

I'm proposing adding a category for "KttC All Bosses", and have a run viable as concept here already.

I initially started running the NG category, and found the nature of resetting and creating a new profile each attempt to be annoying.. motive to continue running was low. Keys to the city does not save progress, and can be reset in a simple manner. It offers routing with supply points, and a whole arsenal selection.

I think it would be a healthy category for the game! Possibly some Co-op section for NG, NG+, and KttC in the future for RTA?

I have a friend who has the game on order, and we plan on having a Co-op concept run in the next weeks after he's learned the game.

Keys to the City is free on Xbox live as far as I am aware. :)

I have an old run on my hard drive I will be hunting down, and adding any censors to upload to the board here soon. I've conceptualized a new category for more meme's.

Sandwhich%

Complete the game while also preparing a grilled cheese sandwhich. The sandwhich must match a particular crisp (golden brown). The Sandwhich must be fully eaten in the speedrun by the runner submitting. Items like cheese slices, bread, and butter can be prepared to be in the same area at the start of the run, but items can not be combined or opened prior to the speedrun. Stove tops are allowed to be heated prior to the speed run. Runs must be fully done with camera on both the preparation area and the game visual.

I think it would be a funny run to see happen, and have considered trying it for the meme return of this game in my back log. Have to create an PNG image that will cover any censors for my layout if I'm to run it again.

This leaderboard if for the XBLA version released in 2006, The original Xbox version from 2003, and the PS3 version from 2009.

The leaderboard for common new Xbox One players, is the "Unity" Port leaderboard found here https://www.speedrun.com/doom_unity

The unity version was released in 2019, and is available on Xbox one. Both XBLA and Unity play on Xbox One.

Check to be sure your menu's match with what leaderboard you are submitting to. Please read the respective game and category rules also before submission.

The Moderation staff is happy to announce the world's first

DOOM UNITY OPEN SPEEDRUNNING TOURNAMENT!

8 eligible players will be competing for a $170 prize pool on March 27th! The tournament will feature players racing across all 3 episodes of the original game from 1993.

11 matches will take place to find the best consistent player the unity port has to offer.

Over a number of years there have been fan efforts and repurposed creations of doom that have existed for some time on the internet. This leaderboard will begin to host and document times of various fan ports, homebrews for particular consoles, and fan made doom clones (like poom). The current listing of Ports live, and eventually more, are to be added in the future by demand and availability for the wide community having access.

After nearly 20 years, Doom world user Doomhack had compiled PR-Boom on an actual GBA cartridge. The entire game is now accessible on real GBA hardware.

Greetings. Initially the leader board did allow for UV and NM runs to start from a death and quick load.

With the September 2020 update to the game, the addition of UV+ required the moderation team to add this distinction to the rules, as some levels appear identical on UV+. This is why runs prior to September of 2020 show loading from quick saves (faster to reset runs in this fashion).

The rules for the specific IL categories were not updated to reflect this stance, which was something missed in a myriad of updates over the last few months. They have now been adjusted to hopefully avoid further confusion.

The game rule's have made this distinction for a while now, but the rule change was missed in the IL rules variable, and has been updated accordingly. Thanks for letting us know.

I am honestly intrigued by this. One of the reasons I've held back running this game was due to timing methods. Perhaps the game could have subcateogories for each methood of playback?

Similar to the way this leaderboard is currently set up? https://www.speedrun.com/doom_gba

Or even the way the SM64 board is currently?

Having Subcategories split into N64 | WiiVC | Emu Would be ideal. IGT could still be tracked in the description.

This would allow for RTA to become dominate, all runs of every method could be submitted, and it would provide players more options to PB with. No longer a single board with all the times submitted for all veriants of playback, there wouldn't be worry of Emulation out weighing the real N64 runs, and it would help players researching runs for the game on the respective ways mentioned.

Keep us updated mods, this could be a positive change for the board if it was figured out. :)

Next to the button to post a submission is the rules.

The rules are:

Beat the game as fast as possible without grabbing any items. No lighters, potions, or weapon upgrades are allowed. This means defeating Jason on all three days using the stone only.

Timing begins on the press start screen (not from the mask screen, as it automatically leads to the press start screen afterward) and ends when the final attack hits Jason.

Perform on original console if possible. You may submit emulator times, but they will not be considered official and are hidden by default. If using a flash cart like PowerPak, reset from your NES instead of the menu.

Unity Ports have received a new update in how the game will display the standard way runs are archived.

  • ITYTD CATEGORY IS NOW ANY%-

ITYTD will still be accepted for the Any% category. You are now able to submit both 'Hey Not to Rough' and 'Hurt Me Plenty' Difficulties to the Any% board in the full game section, and IL section, they will be listed along with ITYTD, and show the difficulty played on.

All times have been given ITYTD by default.

A few UV and NM runs will need to be categorized as such, and will be arranged properly in the next few days.

UV and NM IL's remain unaffected. The only IL's this will effect is ITYTD, which is now 'Any%'

  • NEW CATEGORIES -

All levels:

This category is like Any%, while also including the secret levels. You are not required to kill all the enemies, or find all the secrets in every map, just include the secret level/s in your run.

Cheat%: Added by popular demand. Complete the segment with all in game cheats allowed.

Doom Unity has recently become the first console version of Doom with over 1,000 submitted runs! The community continues to grow at a steady pace, with over 100 runs submitted in the last week. The new categories are live now, and already have submissions for a greater portion of the runs available.

The mods will still be on the look out for any submitted runs that are not tagged with the correct difficulty in the full game section. Let us know if one of your runs falls under this issue in the discord provided on the left navigation bar.

  • A link to the console Doom discord has been provided on the side bar. The server is also host to a Quake console section, with a growing community for this port and others.

  • NTSC & PAL have been defined to avoid timing difference in both full game and individual level runs.

-Emulator options have been removed for full game due to significant disadvantages with load times. Emulator IL's will still be accepted, but kept separate from real hardware times.

  • Max% will be added eventually for full game. The goal will be creating the option when a few more folks learn the game to take these categories on for IL's or full game attempts. The category will likely be added by that time in a further expansion.

  • Nightmare IL's have been given a 'Max%' and 'Non-max' as a test for how Max IL's could be expanded in the future.

  • Icons and themes have been updated.

Have discussed it in the past posts in the forum here. Keeping Doom 64 as a single leaderboard will save confusion in future submissions. We can all agree the 2020 port is Different in a speedrunning context. I don't advocate for the 2020 port to be default here. Having it listed in a pool time with "Classic" is a bit much also. Option 2 listed above is a viable option for the future of the leader board, while still respecting the history of the original games speedruns.

Obviously every player who intends to get serious with the 2020 port for max times, should seek to maximize runs in the "Classic" in future sessions. But having 2020 runs listed in the same place as a 2nd subcategory, will help introduce those who who may not have discovered the original speedrun yet.

-Add 2 subcategories to all full game categories and ILs: 1. Classic , 2. 2020 -Default every submitted run to Classic, this will place the majority of Classic runs into respectful category. -Take the new 2020 port submissions (10-15 runs), change to 2020 subcategory. -Classic remains the default category. -2020 does not distinct PC and consoles separate, but lists the port away from N64. -N64 is encouraged for those who want to get serious for max times.

Grav, have you considered the new port is not only widely accessible, but a nice tool for those looking to learn the classic version? I've had an N64 cartridge for 3 years, and couldn't bring myself to learn much because of how dark it is. With the 2020 port, I've learned more about Doom 64's maps in the time since release, and could start learning glitches on N64 now that I have the basic routes down (intended route for most part). I know 2 other folks in the same spot right now, both with a copy of D64, both learning 2020 for basics before going back. There could be more who find their way to learning the classic games routes and glitches this way. Having a start with the intended route, 2020 port introduction could help them learn for N64 runs for maps, keys, spawns, linedefs.

I can understand the frustration seeing folks run a far slower version of the game. Time spent routing, and refining the game into the speedrun it is. It can feel like it was all for nothing with the new version appearing. But its a positive aspect to take for this version, not only accessible, but for a lot of people, introductory to Doom 64 as a whole. I feel like accepting a new version, while still keeping the default as classic, is a good way to balance this reality. Some more tutorials on a few glitches in Doom 64 Classic could help bring people from the 2020 port, into running the Classic also.

Both can exist side by side here, both can benefit from one another. 2020, the slower port, introduces folks to the superior speedrun times in the Classic. The Classic port, tests those who are ready to go to the next level when 2020 times are maxed. Its a shift in the way the run is discovered and learned for the future.

TL;DR Make 2 subcategories, keep N64 as the default. So long as boards for 2020 are supported also. Pls accept new things happen, but old things are still things and they are still there. Classic game is obviously the run to learn if you want the serious low times with glitches. 2 different leaderboards will have dual submissions and confusion forever.

Levels 1-7 are the counted time. But you are still required to finish the 8th level for a submission.

Even if you play a bad level 8, your 1-7 time isn't tarnished.

The rules are like this due to the original Doom lacking mission 8 results screens. Rules are still carried over, even though modern source ports have added the results screen after the 8th missions back in.

Aim for best 1-7, but you must finish all 8 levels still.

It would be best to have the new port of Doom 64 on the current N64 leaderboard.

Having subcategories for "Classic N64" and 2020 Port" for each category and IL would make it a simple addition, and wouldn't confuse players having multiple leaderboards.

Doom 64 mod hasn't been active since the 2020 port released, submissions are freely open on the D64 board. Hard to say if, or when the change will take place.

Would hope there is a subcategory for it upon first submission of the new ports. "N64" and "2020" as their own subcategories in each category and IL would be a good thing for the board.

None of the Super Shotgun clips will work on 2020 version. 'autopilot' tech is lost in 2020 port. (Slower movement) Credits warp takes you to the main menu in 2020 port.

For credits warp, you technically don't manually quit the game at all. A run in the 2020 port still matches criteria with the way the rules are written currently for a warp run. The new port just loads into the main menu, rather then playing the credits. It would be a slower run regardless, without faster movement and shotgun clipping available.

2020 port is a more inviting version of the game to speedrun for new players imo. A heck of a lot easier to see stuff also with the enhanced brightness options!
