How about this? I don't know what you'd call it exactly, but the idea is that you can't make use of any special moves until the game expressly teaches you it. So no Dream Block Jumping until you see that crow's speech box in 2B, no wall boost jump things until you get up to the relevant location in 7B, and so on. Of course, you can use variants of those moves, but they have to be closest to a certain movement technique the game has already taught you directly. I might need to make a spreadsheet of which movement techniques and technique extensions are taught by each one... I think it would be an interesting speedrun type. And of course this would have any%, 100%, 114%, ARB and so on and so forth. lol this might even need to become its own page... but hey I think it's an interesting idea...

EDIT: Actually this might need to be as simple as the inability to use B-side advanced techniques until you've completed said B-side. Yeah it's not much but it's something slightly interesting... I don't really know what I'm talking about tbh but it's really just a concept and I want to see if people find it interesting...

I personally agree. The currently defined start and end cutscenes of the run are extremely annoying. I'll probably be trying out a speedrun of DTL and maybe DTL2 sometime, so making the entire thing that little bit less arduous would be very helpful.
