Like title suggests, instead of a thread why not make a single thread with 1 locked post. Post would include what's on page 1 of the Leaderboard moderation request thread with a submission form since no one nowadays seems to read or care about it since most just go to the final page to submit a request.
I just think it'd be more efficient maybe? Just have a form, and make it so that a mandatory field is "Did you contact any / all moderators? If so how long ago."
Figure it'd help save people from replying with the same post different day and would maybe be more organized on the site mods end since it is possible to miss a thread request.
Just my 2 cents, not that I think the current thread is unnecessary, just that no one seems to really know that the first post in that thread states everything that's been repeated constantly
Is the 4x buff permanent, or can it be toggled like in Phantasy Star Complete Collection?
The only thing that I'm going to say here is that I do think it's dangerous that any legitimate player can suddenly be taken off a leaderboard for a reason completely unrelated to speedrunning. In addition, if the leaderboard for goldeneye on this website isn't being properly maintained, the only reasonable thing that should be done is nuke the boards (like mega man games did) and link to the website, at least the IL portion should.
So like I didn't read half this shit but is the tl;dr that the Mortal Kombat mods put better proof standards to make the leaderboard more reputable?
If this is a case of moderators abusing their position on this site, then this is an appropriate thread imo
You can be the biggest scumbag in the world, but if your runs are legitimate then they earn a spot on a leaderboard
Any update on this? Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity does sum of IGT from each race, why not this game? Would make each version competitive (even though PC still owns when it comes to the control stick parts)
OK I guess I'll quote this time to make what I said clear
Quote from Komrade: This is why I take the trust aspect so seriously when we start talking about top times, but a 20 minute run of an 11.5 minute game? I'm not going to sweat if they get past me.
As a moderator you should take it very seriously if any fake run gets passed you, even if you tried your hardest. Yes I understand you just meant the trust aspect, all I am saying is there is a mentality that the only runs worth taking seriously is the top times. Top runners only make up a small % of the community, if all the up and coming speedrunners start seeing fake runs ahead of them it will cause issues with trust in the community and their moderators.
Cheated runs will get passed off, and some will get verified, that's the main point I was making with OP. We can do our best right now to ensure things don't get passed off, but people will find a way if they're diligent enough. That's why even though it sucks a cheated run may show up on a leaderboard, at the very least its in a public setting where anyone can scrutinize it and report it.
To finalize what I have to say, there is no defending not caring about cheated runs that get passed.
It's very hard to watermark someone's run as anyone can go through any effort to take the run, I remember an incident where one of SVA's older all dungeons TP run got passed off in a race (not even his current pb, and older pb mind you). The community lives with trust and also dies by trust, don't sweat it too much just do the best you can. Eventually these scumbags will get caught.
Also i don't know how to quote but a small thing I do take seriously is the aspect that apparently only top times should matter. I called out a last place time several years ago because the person stated they never finished the run and guestimated it's end time, I don't care if you think it's not doing harm but if you put a time on a leaderboard and it's not real, it should not be on there period. Only caring about top times is a trash mentality, but sadly these are the only times that we know pass heavy scrutiny, with lower times having less care put into how they get verified.
In case I didn't make it clear, to answer OP's question, there is next to nothing you as a verifier can do, the onus is entirely on who's submitting. Take careful consideration if it's a brand new account cause most of the time this is a red flag, in addition look into the gameplay through audacity to see if it was spliced at any point in the video, even before the run begins
Anyone know the capture formula? Can't find any info whatsoever about it other than we know less minion health and higher capture level lead to higher catch probabilities
It's not that it's a bad idea, but speedrunning is vastly different even between games of the same series. It's not reasonable to find someone at a high level on many highly competitive games, and if it is the case it's only a rare few people. If it weren't for the terrible amount of flash / rom hacks / visual novels this wouldn't be a bad idea, but then you have to factor in each game could have IL's or category disputes on what's considered a main category (since sub category would be even harder to want to give point value too).
That being said, I do think that a grouping system would need in place to make this real. Like at the very top, you'd have games that carry the most weight (maybe a group of the top 50 most ran games?), followed by another group of a set weight, then another, then finally the bottom tier (ran by like 1 or 2 people). However many groups is required would take time to decided but this is just an example of tier listing by weight. Obviously no shitty games like flash / visual novels / rom hacks would be included in this ranking, nor would misc. categories to keep everything simpler.
I think the above is a very real possibility, it's better than the trueskill alternative, but yeah the only downside is of course, you'd need to run games you may not like just to get a higher score, and it could also in theory dissuade people from running lower scoring games.
I guess in conclusion, this kind of idea would be neat to see, but in reality I can only see this being done on a game series basis (like all zelda combined / all mario / etc.)
Been thinking a bit and atm the IL leaderboard heavily favors N64 even though we separate our full game's by platform as well. PC and PS1 have the same mechanics I believe, N64 is the dominating version, but I know next to nothing about the dreamcast version to know if it should be different (edit: apparently cutscenes arent' skippable)
So tl;dr can we have subcategories for the IL leaderboard as well to accomidate this? I think we have a decent split on how people run that game that more IL activity would be beneficial to those who don't want to be uncompetitive due to n64 just owning due to cutscene skips....plus it'd be more fun to not have to switch off what platform runners are more comfortable with to get on the IL board
Added a good bit of resources to the Guides section, most of it is information that isn't really explained anywhere. Should be helpful for whenever we get to Glitchless runs.
I added VGMaps, game mechanics, a glitch section w/ videos, and game data, which is very hard to come by as there is no official nintendo strategy guide (which a lot of snes rpg's had back in the day), nor is any of the information 100% reliable with the exception of tartarus since it seemed like whoever made it took data from the game's internal parts, but even then it doesn't list everything.
So I didn't have time to test out this route fully yet but here's what I've done the past few days (can't believe I was able to finish it this soon, only took me 3 years of constantly telling myself i'll come back to this game)
Some side notes:
-
No death abusing in this route, Homncruse is done in one go. For some reason, only having Dan and Leona mirrored + Leona and Ray equip glitched weapons only has drastically reduced his odds of casting land 3. Not confirmed but it's what I've tested.
-
Curecane and Firesword are used as items now. Curecane helps gives healing capabilities prior to Dan getting Regain 2, which only means Bio Booth and Bio Gara. Firesword, however, is needed for homncruse himself due to splitting up the equipment buff.
-
MP Underflow is pretty much useless once you defeat Dram.
-
Different strats compared to when I last routed this game. Bio Godem and Bio Booth are much safer strats due to using 2 moon drops on Bio Godem and 2 mirrors on Bio Booth. Overall the route is more safe. In addition, I've determined the battle function "Auto" has some useage now. Most fights pre-Undead use the Auto command. Whether it's faster or not can be seen as a more consistant way of doing fights fast w/o having to risk menuing errors (it takes a solid minute for Auto to KO Dram, nice break mid run tbh)
Probably more but the end result is this route requires you to commit to taking down Homncruse in one go. The safer alternative is to do the same in this route, except go all out vs. first form, intentionally lose, then walk back down. The only thing the alternative strat does faster than what I've testes is Ray can use his auto crit metal sword which deals 160 HP per round compared to Fire 3 doing 90, but then entering 2nd phase where unbuffed does 60 per crit compared to 120 or so buffed, and trust me the more turns you take in second phase, the higher the odds homncruse will just annililate you with unlucky back to back move selections / damage ranges
I guess I'll place this here but I'm currently re-routing the game and I do plan on putting up a detailed speedrun guide in addition to a pastebin route (difference between the 2 is the detailed one is for explanations while the pastebin one is what I directly use when I do runs, which doesn't breakdown into too much detail), as well as any other info I can think of that will help with this game's srcom page.
For this game in general, there's not much that can be done to change the route outside of buying different equipment and skipping unneeded items. This game also has really odd mechanics, like each level up isn't constant, as the game gives a small range of values that could be increased. This actually plays a huge role leading up to badbad, as I used to not unequip the shoes on Ray in that fight, but recent attempts at doing his fight has yielded surprisingly more damage output against me. Same applies on the offensive side.
Nonetheless, I'm halfway through the re-route, but the 2nd half of the game is where I'm going to be having the most time investment. Hoping to be done with the re-route by next week, then a week after that for a detailed route write up. Sorry @Indalazaylia for the lack of updates here, I'm very notorious for getting on something and all of a sudden losing interest.
