It has been brought to the mod team's attention that a recent run submitted to this board has been alleged to be a TAS, a tool-assisted superplay, passed off as a legitimately human-performed RTA run. The evidence that has been presented by the accuser will be shown here for your review. They are free to put their name on their comments in this thread if they wish. Additional evidence has been gathered upon further investigation of the matter. My editorial responses to these points will be presented in [brackets].

The run being questioned is the current Endless, 99,999 points Hard record by Raidabel0w: https://www.speedrun.com/panel_de_pon/runs/y86gk9nm.

Point #1: This is the account's only submitted speedrun to this website. [It is not the user's only submitted speedrun to this website. Previous runs to this leaderboard have been submitted under the name Rika_Furude, an account that has since been deleted--see the first place 99,999 points Easy run: https://www.speedrun.com/panel_de_pon/runs/ylne2rxz. Generally, a world record run should be under a greater degree of scrutiny than most other runs. They reflect on the community as a whole. I did not verify this run so I am not aware of the amount of scrutiny that it went through during verification.]

[Here, the names Prierè Tsumerai Ame, Rika_Furude, and Shippai all intersect with each other. Remember these names for later points.]

#2: Timestamp at 0:10. The HI-SCORE is 2000. Prior runs from this user have shown that they soft reset, showing a high score of 99999. See this run: https://www.speedrun.com/panel_de_pon/runs/mkv2o21yhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88nvYi4z3Uk?t=9

They either were hard resetting, or this was their first attempt from boot. [You must game over after power on to change the HI-SCORE. If you pause and quit, your HI-SCORE does not update. If you reset before game over, your HI-SCORE does not update. One could quit the run if they know that it will not beat their best time before it finishes. Resetting between attempts would be tedious, but not unheard of. I often do this for a better presenting final video, but not always with Endless.]

Due to SRC thread limits, the content will continue in the next post.

This was not expressly stated in the rules before today, but it is usually understood in the speedrunning community that you need a video to demonstrate that you actually did what you claimed to do. In fact, this very site's Twitter once Tweeted "no vid, no did."

Submissions have been previously rejected for having no video available and will continue to be rejected going forward, but now the rule can be seen on the Main Rules.

It was discovered in the GDQ Hotfix tonight that the glitch to skip straight to the World Championship Final does NOT work on the European version. If you want to finish in a timely fashion, use the American version.

Seeing as how the game doesn't actually start until you select whether you are a king or queen (existing saves do not get overwritten until you do so, either), it does not make sense to include it in the timing of the run. Therefore, the rule has been changed to start the timing of the run when you select King or Queen. All existing best runs with video have been adjusted accordingly.

I was just sent this message from @Vraieliss:

Heya - been working on getting a Monster Rancher 2 Any% run recorded and finished, but having to emulate and the resources given Kato file doesn't work at all with Mednafen. I found that the PSX game "C- Contra Adventure" does give a Blue Kato too though different starting stats. Wasn't sure best place to try to note that for others...

As a result of the discussion linked here, Endless mode speedruns performed on any version of Panel de Pon that do not utilize a scoring glitch of making combos of at least 32 panels are now valid to submit to this leaderboard. This includes runs on the original SFC/SNES release that do not use the glitched combos as well as runs on all subsequent releases of Panel de Pon.

This change does not affect other modes.

https://www.speedrun.com/post/e73pc

Please refer to the above post for background on why the rules are changing for this game. There are no active runners for this game that do not play Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, thus there was no need to also post the poll here.

As a result of these changes, the following times have been removed from this board:

Normal

Vyseoflegends9002 (“Vyse”) 4m13s 4/27/16 (banned emulator – PlayGuy)

Easy

Vyse 3m04s 6/8/18 (banned emulator – PlayGuy) Vyse 3m21s 4/27/16 (banned emulator – PlayGuy) Vyse 3m36s 3/21/16 (banned emulator – PlayGuy)

To summarize the changes to the emulator usage rules, here were the OLD rules:

We use SpeedRunsLive's rules for emulator usage. This means that Visual Boy Advance (VBA) and VBA-M are currently banned. Please see this FAQ: http://www.speedrunslive.com/faq/#caniemulate

And here are the NEW rules, effective immediately:

Effective March 26, 2019: --New emulated runs must be done on one of the following approved emulators: -BGB ( http://bgb.bircd.org/ ) versions 1.5.7 and up -Gambatte ( https://sourceforge.net/projects/gambatte/files/gambatte/ ) r571 -Gambatte-speedrun ( https://github.com/Dabomstew/gambatte-speedrun/releases ) r649 and up -Bizhawk ( http://tasvideos.org/Bizhawk.html ) versions 2.3.1 and up with the Gambatte core selected --Emulated runs previously submitted must have been done on a version of either BGB, Gambatte, or Bizhawk. --If a verified run is discovered to have used an emulator that is not approved, the run will be removed. --To verify that an approved emulator is being used, runs must satisfy at least ONE of the following requirements: -The emulator window must be fully visible on your video. -The run’s comments must list the name and version of the emulator used. --To capture the window in OBS, use a Display Capture.

If you have any concerns over these new rules, please let one of the mods know.

The Puzzle League speedrun community has grown tremendously since the original Pokemon Puzzle League Skype group started around six years ago.

With that growth, however, comes a greater responsibility to ensure that everyone participating in the leaderboards is on a fair playfield. To enforce this, the moderation team started to verify new run submissions last month. In the verification process, we also came to realize that our rules for emulator usage could use some updating, that we should develop our own rules instead of relying on those of another community.

In the coming months, we will revamp and/or clarify our emulator rules for every game in the Puzzle League series. Due to current community interest, we will start with this game and Game Boy Tetris Attack.

To that end, we have created a Google Form poll that ask about important factors to be considered in the formation of our rules. We invite all Pokemon Puzzle Challenge / Game Boy Tetris Attack speedrunners to complete this form in order to gauge what the community desires. Please read the entirety of the form and answer each question carefully. You will not be able to change your answers once you submit them.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeWwdo8qL5EZYE6PX3p00dlYbDm76-x669_sVzZMxNNpYdyqg/viewform

Please use this thread to discuss the issue. This thread will remain open for as long as necessary to gather the opinions of this community.
