mod changes rules after submission

mod likes to change rules after submission to reject your runs. runners beware. also bans people from categories.

Canada

It should be self evident that you should not submit the same run to a second category when there is only one category for that type of run. You don’t send a glitchless run of portal to the out of bounds category even though technically there is not rule against it. Also I did not ban you from anything. If you wanted to run in the microtransactions category you need to use that. Using the same logic I’ve also band everyone on earth who does not have iOS or Android because they can’t play the game.

conformed to the new rules. It was any% after i submitted it turned to microtransactions. bought ultimate power and ninja. mod deletes category to prevent me from running. costing me money.

luckily i used a fresh install and a different phone. so i can still play the other category. if i did this on my current game. would make me ineligable to run all together :)

also submitted a seperate run after. that part i am ok with :)

runners beware

It was never any%. As you are allowed to use purchase abilities in that category and you did not that run you sent was not of reasonable speed for the category. Because you intentionally did not use things that would speed up your time in the category it is not unreasonable for me to not verify it.

I deleted the category because that is what the full mod said would be the best corse of action: I did not want to delete that category. If you want it back just explain how you want it to be reimplemented here or on the Only One Discord.

You guys suck.

Regarding the microtransaction category, I did advise removing it because it was completely empty and seemed like it would stay that way as long as that restriction was in place. I don't like the idea of a "pay-to-win" category existing at all, but if y'all want it back... that's your problem.

@Fioresa You need to cool it. I understand your frustration, but your antagonistic attitude and defamation of the moderator (claiming they've "banned" people from categories when that has never happened) in these forum posts is completely unwarranted and does not help your situation at all. Creating this thread at all was not appropriate, especially since you contacted site staff about this shortly afterwards.

@Klay You need to remove those category restrictions. I can understand not wanting one run to exist in multiple categories (I don't personally agree with rejecting runs on that basis, but there's at least merit to that idea), but these arbitrary restrictions you've imposed accomplish nothing and are not at all good reasons to reject runs.
that run you sent was not of reasonable speed for the category
...is this seriously what this is about? Absolutely unacceptable. Never ever ever reject runs because of this.

I hope this is my final word on this and that I don't need to get involved again.

Under Run Requirements in the Moderation Rules is says “ • A minimum effort requirement is reasonable. It is recommended to at a minimum accept a first playthrough done in one sitting with an intention of playing the category quickly. • Runs that are clearly not making an effort to beat the game's category quickly may be rejected.” If not using pay for abilities is not what you think of being below the minimum effort required for that category that, that is the discussion to have. Thank you for your time. I’m disappointed that it was necessary to get you involved. This should have been a discussion to happen between me and him on the discord server.

That is not the purpose of a "minimum effort" requirement. The purpose of that is so that moderators, if they wish, don't have to waste time verifying extremely long casual playthroughs that are not at all speedruns (e.g. runs that don't even bother to skip cutscenes/dialog, waste lots of time on unnecessary side activities that have no benefits, are several times longer than a typical first run, that sort of thing). If a run is making any sort of attempt to complete the category in a timely manner (not considering other runs on the board, or available strategies that aren't being used, just... in general, are they trying to go fast), a minimum effort requirement does not apply to it.

Despite not utilizing all of the allowed abilities in that category, @Fioresa 's "microtransaction run" was still attempting to complete the category quickly (and is the fastest run on the leaderboard for that IL). and therefore should not have been rejected on that basis.

When I look at the categories for portal, every run I see in glitchless is not in inbound, and every run in both of those categories are in in out of bounds. What will a mod say, what rule will they use, so as to not verify a glitchless run submitted to the two other categories? The answer to that question is the reason I did not verify that run. If I’m asked to run the 100m sprint and I take a detour to go a full 800m run I can’t say “hay, I did what you asked and I put in the effort.” The run may have been an impressive 800m, you may have put in a lot of effort, and you may have even broken a record, but that does not change the fact that you intentionally did something that slowed your time down, which in my mind does fall below minimum effort. In simple terms; you put in effort... in the wrong run, and so it does not work as effort.

...what? Who's to say they would reject a run submitted to one of the other categories if it happened to not use any glitches?

Edit: I poked around a bit and found a run that exists in both Out of Bounds and Inbounds, so... https://www.speedrun.com/portal/run/jy98132z https://www.speedrun.com/portal/run/8y86rdwm

While you're certainly allowed to hold that belief personally, that is again not at all what that ruling is meant for, and again should not be used to reject runs in this case. End of story.

I'm not going to argue with you about this anymore. Don't reject runs because of this.

Mods of games tend to pick and chose when to use that rule. The mods could have chosen to not verify this run but they did anyway. https://www.speedrun.com/sm64/run/mr87w0gy Here is another. https://www.speedrun.com/smo/run/z57rjvjm Here is another. https://www.speedrun.com/goiwbf/run/mre2ongy The difference between these cases and this one is That I’m willing to not verify these runs to keep the categories looking good and making sense. I’m not the only one who has noticed these runs.
