Questions about this game

So I used to absolutely love this game as a kid. Now that I'm reexploring it as an adult, I have a number of questions that I can't find the answer to. I'm hoping somebody out there has figured these out and can help me.

  1. Kairmende doesn't seem to be offered by merchants, and I haven't been able to locate this with dragons by searching the countryside. Does anybody know how to acquire it?

  2. The "Spell Effect Summary" table and the "Spell Effect Tables" appear to be inconsistent. Why is that?

  3. Some ingredients have a negative director effect (for example Mixing Tius directed towards Humans). What does that do? How is it different than no effect?

  4. Towns have a variety of attributes: Land Type, Race, Population, Industrial, Yeomanry, Distance, Tax Rate, Uprising. What is the significance of each of these things? It seems like Yeomanry means combat strength, but I'm not sure. Tax Rate is settable and seem to be how much money you collect from the town and also affects Uprising. I'm not sure what the effect of Uprising is.

  5. Dragon attributes: Disease, Strength, Speed, Age, Health, Eyesight, Wisdom. What do each of these do? Some are obvious, others are not.

  6. Egg Heat: It seems like eggs can fail if they're overheated or underheated. What are the parameters of this?

  7. For each of: Dragon, Egg, Human, Village; they can be affected by spells that affect: Combat, Disease, Growth, Mind, Speed, Power, Sense. How are each of these affects mapped to attributes of each of those things? For example, I assume "Combat" maps to Dragon's Strength. What does increasing the "Sense" of a Village do?

Thanks for any insight!

Hi ComtriS,

Its pretty difficult to find valid and good informations about the game and some of the game mechanics are also a riddle for me. I as able to trace down a website, which isnt avaialbe anymore via the "Waybackmachine" with some interessting content: https://web.archive.org/web/20160413221600/http://www.rogerdavies.com/2009/04/dragons-breath-dragon-lord-video-game-for-atari-st-by-palace-software

  1. Good question, according to the manual on Lemon Amiga https://www.lemonamiga.com/games/docs.php?id=514 Its mentioned in the table but not in the description above...maybe its just missing from the game I dont know.

  2. What do you mean by inconsistent? Can you provie an example or a link?

  3. IIRC You can i.e. shrink the population of a town or lower their defense. Its like an attack spell sort of (but not 100% sure).

  4. Yes Yeomancy is army/combat strenght (very important). Uprising means that a town can rebel and you will lose it and have to reconquer it.

  5. Strenght = Combat Skill (Conquer Towns/Fighting Dragons) Speed = How fast they will reach their destination Age = The older the more likly the will die Health = HP (Renegerates im they take a break in the lair) Eyesight = Can spot items/talisman from the air without landing on a tile Wisdom = Not sure atm.

  6. IIRC Heating Eggs cost money, the more heat the more you have to pay.Not sure if you can overheat.

  7. Uff...I remember knowing the answers to this, but I need to check my papers, I try to come back to you about that.

Hope this helps you a bit.

I am happy that you are interessted in playing this game, there is much stuff to rediscover, back then I was just happy to beat it with the informations I was able to find. The game offers so much and every round is completly different (only end-game sucks). Pretty sure my time is easy to beat, searching for the talisman is really annyoing and you can be lucky and find them right on, but the grind for his must be brutal.

Cheers
