Emulator runs are not allowed.

New York, USASayuri4 years ago

It wouldn't be too much to ask at all, normally, but I am almost certain that unless someone else has downloaded the run, I think its video might be gone. Their YouTube channel was deleted (or at least hidden/privated), and though their Twitch channel is still up as of this post, the run (curiously...) is not on there anymore, though I swear it was at one point.

Right now, all we really have are the other existing All Flags runs, as well as the route. Sorry if that was just telling you stuff you already knew - I think our hands might be tied though, unless like I mentioned, there's someone who actually downloaded the run before the videos were removed.

NTR CFW. I don't actually know what the "NTR" part stands for, if anything, but it's a homebrew app you can use if you have a "New" model 3DS - New 3DS, New 3DS XL, New 2DS XL. NTR CFW lets you stream your 3DS's gameplay feed over WiFi.

The "New" models have a CPU speed of 804 MHz, compared to the original model's 266 MHz. This enhanced processing power gives the app enough power to stream the 3DS's two screens over the internet, while still leaving enough power left for the games you're playing to run the same as they usually do. Now, a consequence (For speedrunning, at least) of using NTR is that load times in games released before 2015, the year the first "New" model came out, are decreased thanks to the increased processing power. Because of this, there's a timing penalty you need to add to your timer, so NTR and non-NTR runners can be on a level playing field.

With the demo of Bravely Default II coming out, I think now would be a good time to finally have a server for speedrunning the Bravely Default games: https://discord.gg/2kdbnCR

I was creating one earlier, actually, especially now that we have a demo of II. Right here: https://discord.gg/2kdbnCR We should spread it around for any other Bravely runners.

We visit Templo Chumbo (Kiwano Temple) first to get the first mini paint star, and then we delay the second visit until we finish Chapter 2, so we can instakill the Spiked Paper-Cone Goomba, which saves you from a battle. Otherwise, you can do it anytime.

Nobody hates the proposed categories. You're free to run them, even if there's no dedicated category for them! As is the case for any speedgame. Think about some of the proposed categories here- take the one you asked for 10 months ago. Doing all the stages up until the first Extra Stage, and then... stopping the timer? Why? Why end the run there? THAT is the true meaning of an arbitrary category, a run that just ends at a random point in the game, suddenly, with no reason.

As for category extensions, again I should point out that it being made depends on who would be willing to run the silly categories. You might be excited right now, but think about if it were made - then what, will you keep running your own silly/funsies categories? Even if you submit more than one run, and considering the current count of 5 active runners according to SRC, there's little point in making one if it will die within a month, OR if it will only ever be used by one or two people.

I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, I should stress! I will, however, admit that it can be tiring, basically saying these same things every time someone asks for a new category to be made, that's all. Enjoy the speedruns you want to!

A glitchless category for Forces would be fairly (and I hate using this word) arbitrary. There's the usual everlasting argument of "what actually qualifies as a glitch", but in the context of this game, I would say that there's no reason not to learn the skips. There's guides, you can ask us for help here or on the Sonic Speedrun Community server's Forces channel, or you can also watch the top few runs and just try to copy what they do. You have many resources available, so with practice, it will become second nature. (And, take it from a guy who has ran this game in just about every conceivably possible way - compared to what you can really do in the game with the many strats we now have, glitchless is boring. I can see that you've ran the game that way before, which is totally cool, and I'm not knocking you for it - just trying to be informative.)

As for the Red Star Ring suggestion, that's a cool idea and all, but we won't add categories without significant backing of other runners. So, if you want to run it, that's great! There just won't be a leaderboard to submit those runs to unless a bunch of people also want to run it, and get the category added. And, if you want my personal opinion, I'd rather have 100% added, but that's an entirely different discussion.

Hope that helps!

Do you truly realize how insanely long this run would be, even if it were segmented and done with community help? Jesus Christ.

It would be an extremely short, arbitrary category. Nobody's stopping you from running it yourself, but it wouldn't be added to this leaderboard.

Thanks for the input, Tim! According to my LG monitor's user manual, it supports 480p and 480i, so I should be good with this setup then, hopefully! I'll purchase the RetroTINK and HD component cables soon, then.

Thank you!

So I've been trying to find the best way for me to capture footage from my SNES for OBS. I should note that I don't have any CRTs, instead just my computer monitor and the screen I use for the gameplay, a 20-inch 720p LG monitor. Also, my capture card is an internal one, the Elgato HD60 Pro, specifically.

So, from my searching around, my plan was to get these two parts: A RetroTINK-2X ( http://www.retrotink.com/ )and an HD RETROVISION SNES YPbPr Component Cable ( https://bit.ly/2XpSNQi ). So, connect the HD component cable into the RetroTINK, then the RT into my Elgato and the Elgato output to my LG monitor.

So, does this all check out? I'm not used to capturing retro consoles, so I want to know for sure if there might be some TV/capture card incompatibility first, or something.

Mainly because it's a very long category that not many people are willing to, or able to put time into. You can still do runs of course, nobody's stopping you.

It means starting from a clean slate, and deleting any existing save file. Assuming you're on Windows, the location depends on if you're using the Windows or Linux build of the game.

If Windows: C:\Users(You)\AppData\Local\UNDERTALE If Linux: C:\Users(You)\AppData\Local\UNDERTALE_linux_steamver

If there are files in either, delete them all, then you can properly do your run.

AimTech, who was managing the autosplitter, is busy with other things and she can't keep updating it for every new version, which keep changing the values the autosplitter relies on. The game is simply updated too frequently. So unless someone comes up with a better solution, don't bother with the autosplitter, just submit with standard RTA timing.

The timing rules for Color Splash have been updated: Time now ends when Huey explodes shortly after his final textbox, instead of when "The End" appears after the credits. All run times, Any% and All Flags, (including obsoleted runs), have been changed to reflect this.

I've stated my thoughts in the community server's Forces channel, but my basic suggestions are:

  • Add NG+ (Nobody would run All Stages, so just NG+ All Story Stages)
  • Add No Rental, either as its own category of Any% or a new category entirely (I am in favor of both, so either works)

I have runs of both of these, and I'm going to do more. Bluemania grinded No Rental for a bit some time ago, too.

IGT for NG+ is a welcome addition, though I still don't know about allowing wispon changing or Avatar changing in-between stages because IGT doesn't track that. Isn't that exactly the reason why we don't use IGT for Any%? Or am I misunderstanding something here? Besides that, this outline is alright. I'm so/so on Super Sonic being banned or not, don't really care about that.

Ultimately, I'd like to see NG+ All Story Stages and No Rental on the leaderboards.
