This was used in old 100% routes and many current No DJ routes. It's a fun one, good find.

You can find the answer to this under "General Gameplay Rules" in this site forum. Game rules are not required to restate these universal expectations.

The game has a built-in feature for playing deathless in the form of golden strawberries. I found it helpful for certain stages to get a fast speedrun time while forcing myself to play consistently and deathless. I think my 7B IL PB is still my golden berry attempt. Do what's reasonable for you as an individual.

I am so happy this is being discussed front-and-center like it deserves to be. The mental health of speedrunners is largely dependent on the strategies we go for in speedruns, and it only makes sense for the longevity of the game to disallow anything that can damage my weak little brain. This being said, it is clear that we need to punish the players who have pushed this game beyond what it was meant to be.

I'm talking about you, Hypnoshark. You are the one player to toxically incorporate every new strategy regardless of what it does to the overall community. Not only have you outgrown this speedgame in terms of skill, but you are so far ahead that nobody else even stands a chance. I mean really, a 48:47? Would it have killed you to stay at a 50:xx?

The expectations your run sets on new and existing players is madness. We might as well put the TAS time at the top of the leaderboards, too. I am in favor of creating a new category extension leaderboard for Hypnoshark's runs while leaving the rest of the board intact. Alternatively, we could force him to use Polar or Pura as a handicap if he'd like to stay with his friends on the main board. Congratulations Latsu7 on the World Record, and I'm excited to see my rank climb ever so slightly, as that is the only thing that matters at the end of the day.

Check the resources page for each individual game's leaderboard. To my knowledge, Crash NST, CTRNF, and Crash 4 IAT have them.

In cases like this, it might be helpful to everybody to make a variable for WW under the category. Players who care to compare their times to other No WW times may do so using the filters, as it would even show obsoleted runs by players who eventually beat their No WW time with WW.

They have the ability to, but every community has their own rules. If you can't trust a moderator with their own runs, why trust them with everyone else's?

Congrats on your run!

Recent runs are sorted by the date they were played, not verified. Since yours took over a week to be verified, it is unlikely anybody would've seen it on their front page, as it only shows the 10 most recent runs of all followed games.

Runs like this which are verified instantly have a 100% chance of reaching the front page, but even still it won't last more than a few hours. The people who want to see your run will find it.

Firstly, your IGT was a 53, not a sub 53. And your run was verified as a 56, not a sub 56.

Timing begins on difficulty or file select (if no difficulties unlocked) and ends on the fade to black after beating the game.

Post your run here when you're done and it'll get added.

Any% requires planning and thinking and adjusting your playstyle depending on how the run is going, which is uncomfortable for the human mind. When I was playing this game as a kid, I always went for max completion, so I was more naturally drawn to that category in speedrunning. Maybe others feel the same way.

You were already in the first puzzle when you began your timer. Trim your video back by 2 seconds and it's fine.

Thank you for your input. Of what you suggested, I'm mostly interested in your first suggestion. This speedrun.com page was created around the existence of the training mode, even though the "PVP" side of the game had existed for many years prior.

Maybe it is a personal opinion/preference, but this sort of speedrun should be in the runners' hands. There is nothing outside of the player's control in lichess basics, but winning against human opponents is wildly inconsistent and unmoderate-able. Nobody can watch a run and make the ruling that the opponents were not intentionally helping the speedrun.

speedrun.com does not support high scores and has been up-front about not being the place for them. 10, 20, 30, etc. are arbitrarily chosen values. If the game awarded some sort of medal for a streak, it is much easier to justify the addition of the category.

Creating the board in hopes that it generates interest in a new category is just not how it works. The leaderboards of all speedgames are made based on organic interest. As of now, the leaderboard will not change, but if you decide to do a run of anything you suggested, you should post it here and get others excited about it.

I think you already got your answer!

I don't care how easy or hard it is to implement a board. If it makes sense to have the category, we'll make it happen. This is not the problem here. Even if we did add the leaderboard, it isn't going to magically make you or any other new runner instantly better at the game. Your logic is counterintuitive, by the way. You claim the category would be used for practice, but proceed to explain that the back half of the game is what costs new runners the majority of the timeloss. Just PLAY THE GAME. You don't need a leaderboard to do so.
