Using a controller for this game is bad

If anyone ever is trying to play the play station version of skates never use a controller ever. You should use a keyboard. Using the arrow keys or WASD makes the game so much easier for people trying it out for the first time and the movement a lot more easier. With a controller the game feels more clunky than it usually is, but if you use a keyboard the game is more crisp and the movement is easier. This is just to let it be easier for new players to get better at the game instead of trying to grind with controller or just quitting. Hope this helps out new runners.

Useful for emulator, but with the fair chance the game runs the fastest on console with PS2 and such, trying to find a keyboard that console will work with isnt the easiest since its limited, and finding adapters for it isnt that great either. Sony was that stingy to make sure very few supported so that you mostly go for their "official" mouse and keyboard and such. The game doesnt get many runners anyway (i haven't ran it in a long while) and using keyboard for PS1 is incredibly niche, so we prob won't see anyone except very dedicated runners use it.

Yeah, keyboard controls are only really viable for emulator runs (for the reasons @New999 stated above) and in order to have the best advantage, playing on a real PS2 is the way to go since the loads are considerably faster. Since this game is pretty niche, I think both methods are perfectly acceptable, but each have their pros and cons.

Really a Ps2 is faster? A friend and I went through most of the runs we had at our disposal and found out that eednob and I had about the same load speeds while I played on a Ps1 emu and he payed on a Ps2.

For many PS1 games, a slim PS2 with fast disc speed enabled will provide for the fastest load times. I haven't done extensive testing with Super Sports specifically, but I imagine there's at least a slight difference. Not sure which version PS2 @eednob has been using.

hi, i'm the friend FDE is referring to, i went through the loading times for both FDE & eednob.

to clarify: eednobs loading times were quite slow on their playstation, everytime eednob exited one of the main levels, their loading times for going back to the main hub world was usually around 18-19 seconds.

while FDE has faster loading times on their emulator, as during those same sections it usually only took 16-17 seconds.

also playing on controller for this game sounds awful anyways keyboard ftw.
