How did it take me until now to realize what a great category this would be? Fastest way to complete this run:
Timer starts where you'd start your timer for Any%/Classic%.
- Shoot down a police heli
- Fly under all of the "Under The Radar" achievement bridges. Timer ends when you hear the in-game tone for flying under the final bridge .
I have a route in mind.
The main poll, for those who have completed either a Classic% or Any% run of GTA IV, is here: http://www.speedrun.com/gtaiv/thread/zhexa
The secondary poll, for everyone else, is here: http://www.speedrun.com/gtaiv/thread/3k714/1#kngv7
Vote in the appropriate poll, if you care to.
The discussion thread is linked to in each of the polls as well as at the end of this post. See that thread to catch yourself up with what's been going on, if you'd like.
DISCUSSION THREAD: http://www.speedrun.com/gtaiv/thread/3pe8g
THIS POLL WILL RUN UNTIL THE MAIN POLL ENDS
If you're not caught up with what's been going on, read this entire thread: http://www.speedrun.com/gtaiv/thread/3pe8g
The following people can cast a single vote for this poll: Anyone who's not listed in the main poll
So, all you need to do now is either: Reply with "1" if you support the removal of the traffic density rule or Reply with "2" if you support keeping the traffic density rule
Any additional comments left in this thread will be removed. Leave those for the other thread.
THIS POLL WILL RUN UNTIL WE ALL AGREE IT SHOULD END or EVERYONE LISTED BELOW, VOTES
If you're not caught up with what's been going on, read this entire thread: http://www.speedrun.com/gtaiv/thread/3pe8g

Basically, the above list should be including everyone who has completed a full Classic% and/or Any% run. If you have an issue with the inclusion of someone on this list or feel someone is missing, please either PM me on Twitch or say so in the thread linked at the beginning of this post. If you message me on Twitch, I'm assuming you don't want others to know what you've had to say and I'll keep it between us.

June 1st: The traffic density rule was not removed. More people were in favor of not removing it. Ignore the title of this thread. (This decision was made over a month ago.)
Well, not quite duping yet, but possibly getting closer.
Firstly, I have no idea if my movements or timing have any effect on the final outcome because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and I have no idea why. If I didn't specifically mention something below, that means I have no idea if it's necessary or not. I got it to work for the first three hitman missions (crosshair missions), but it only led to infinite loading, never crashing though. Give it a try, if you'd like, try other missions too and help find duping in IV, because you know you love IV. OpieOP
This is what I do in the video:
- Get into a vehicle which has a police computer.
- Navigate to one of Jacob's activities (just don't pick "Job").
- Press "E" (hotkey for police computer) and "Enter" (selection hotkey) at the same time. (Jacob should begin to be called for only milliseconds and then the call is cancelled. I feel if done """correctly""", you shouldn't see the "Jacob likes you more" indicator appear along with his blip on the mini map)
- Quickly start up a vigilante mission (the first selection on the police computer)
- Call Little Jacob. (You'll either hear the dialogue or beeps and I have no idea why you hear one or the other)
- Navigate to Little Jacob on the phone and select "Job". (You'll hear beeps)
- Position the driver's seat over the mission marker and wait until you run out of time on the vigilante mission.
- If it "works", you'll see that the Jacob's drug mission began during the fade out for the hitman mission.

Using this downgrader: http://gtaforums.com/topic/753764-relsasteam-downgrader/
Purchased on Steam. Using the latest version. My problem? The downgrader gives me the "unknown version" error after clicking "next" on the "Find Directory" step. I've even reinstalled the game just to see if that would help. It didn't. I've searched online and see other people have this problem, but I've yet to find any solution.
Segments 1 - 13 add up to equal 1:02:26 (10 seconds of each segment video on SDA are dedicated to showing SDA info. I didn't include this time)
Segment 19 is Search and Delete which is 2:43. 2:25 of segment 20 is Easy as Can Be. Added to the time above, this equals 1:07:34.
At the beginning of each segment, the latest auto-save file is loaded which takes about 9 seconds (9 x 15 = 2:15). At the end of each segment, the stats menu is shown for about 5 seconds (5 x 14 = 1:10). 2:15 + 1:10 = 3:25, 1:07:34 - 3:25 = 1:04:09.
So, the Any% time of the segmented run's "Roman's Sorrow + Brucie" takes about 1:04:09. My Classic% time PB is 1:06:01. Not sure if they include the 5 seconds per segment taken to show the stats menu. I'm pretty sure the 9 seconds taken to load the auto-save file at the beginning of each segment are included in the final time. If they do, the time ends up being about 1:06:24.
I don't think beating the segmented run's time will be that difficult if I do an Any%, especially if my single segment run is timed in the same manner (see below).
Edit: I see a segmented run is manually timed. They don't count the load times. Does this mean they don't count the load times of loading a save AND the load times of missions (anywhere from a couples seconds of a cutscene all the way up to the full cutscene + the loading... afterwards)?
Let's get some IL speedrunning going on with this (these) DLC(s).
How I see this working (potential standards):
- Removed. You're not required to exclusively use the replay feature.
- Removed. See next post.
- You're told your time upon mission completion. This would be the time you post.
- Mission 100% objectives do not need to be completed. As long as the mission is deemed "Completed", you're fine.
- Any%.
I found out about this from a SDA thread: -> https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/gta_4_rerun.html. This was discovered by ExplodingCabbage, as far as I know.
Important info to know which precedes this part of the game (this is what I follow):
- Make sure you have at least one shell in the combat shotgun after killing Dardan. This can be achieved by triggering the cutscene (no attention shot).
- Pick up additional ammo from the shotgun guy in the apartment during "Concrete Jungle". (DO NOT switch to the sawn-off, just run over the gun)
- Before the turn, shoot Ivan as much as you can with either the pistol or SMG.
- Take the turn you see him take in the video. (the turn next to the propane tanks will leave you with less time)
- Shoot Ivan, not the car.
- Watch the video:
When I complete "Bull In a China Shop", I immediately drive over to the train platform where the carbine rifle cop can spawn. During the drive, but before reaching the stairs, I shoot a cop, triggering a 3 star wanted level. This seems to always cause the carbine rifle cop to spawn. It has yet to fail me. The only downside is that unless you execute everything near perfectly, the next mission marker will appear before you get back, costing some time.
...people bashing the "Classic%" category of GTA IV & V.
"It's stupid. It has stupid rules. This is a speedrun, not a slowrun! Arbitrary this, arbitrary that."
Believe me, I see it enough.
The moment you do a "speedrun" and refuse to use the "cheats" which are there the moment you pop in the disc or install the game, you're refusing to use a part of the release which ¤may¤ save you time during the run. "Any%" is not actually "anything at your disposal can be used", at least for some or all of the GTA series.
For all of you that this pertains to, let's not be hypocrites anymore, ok?
(I'm also aware that everything I or anyone else posts in this thread will not change the way of thinking of someone that I would deem as an "ignorant hypocrite" because, well, a person who says something along the lines of "It's stupid. It has stupid rules. This is a speedrun, not a slowrun! Arbitrary this, arbitrary that." is likely too far gone to understand logic)
Timing: Timer begins when you cancel the opening cutscene and ends when you've completed all 30 Most Wanted.
Rules: Take out the thirty fugitives in Liberty City.

Many attempts and this was the only one which ended up showing the police terminal screen while loading the mission. Not sure if I had control for fractions of a second which I could have used to load a vigilante mission while the mission was loading. The fact that it does show up and then goes away gives me hope.
(The "all" in the title should be changed to "certain")
I believe this same thing happened to SA with Los Santos%. I regret ever encouraging the idea. Misc. categories just take focus away from the full runs. A runner should come into a game like IV realizing that they're either in it for the "long run" or shouldn't be at all. I'm also going to remove all highlights of my RS runs.
Saturday's TLC race:
Leave a reply stating when you'd be able to participate in the race, thanks. Reminder- This has been planned for Saturday, let's start from there.
Don't know if someone has proposed this before, but I got the idea while watching a Halo relay race.
"Relay race" - a race between teams of two or more contestants with each team member covering a specified portion of the entire course.
The Halo relay race is being done in chronological order (Halo Reach before Halo CE). A GTA relay could be done in order of release date. Multiple teams, a runner on each team per game, maybe even multiple categories per game. Looks like a lot of fun.
