I'm aware that the later top-loader NES models are preferred for FF1 speedrunning due to their less volatile RAM at startup. Does anyone have more concrete information on specific CPU and board revisions? For example, the NESDev wiki talks about an RP2A03G CPU on the NES-CPU-07 board revision. Have hardware-based runners gone through and documented which CPU/board revisions work for FF1 speedruns, or is it still sort of trial-and-error?

I loved FF1 as a child, and having spent a couple of decades dealing with N layers of interpreted and compiled languages, am enjoying digging into the nuts and bolts of a simple architecture.

Hi folks,

Started digging through AstralEsper's guide a bit and comparing it to the PRG ROM dump from Mesen. I'm sure someone out there has mapped out the PRG ROM to check formulas, values, and such, but it's not easily found with a search engine. Anyone know of such a resource before I do a ton more grepping through hexadecimal?

For what small amount it's worth, the characters' starting attributes all seem to be found at location 0x03040 in PRG ROM. No guarantees that other info is stored in such a neat data structure like this, but it's worth mentioning.

Hi all - remembered this game from my childhood; though it'd be fun to try and run. Are there any MIDI options out there so I can use a regular MIDI keyboard? I have an M-Audio controller and Casio Privia at my disposal. I'm thinking either a MIDI-to-USB adapter and playing with an emulator, or some sort of MIDI-to-NES adapter.
