Every System has a different category for their own this due to the fact that different systems have different advantages and disadvantages this leads to people being forced to play the game in a certain way which reduces accessibility and enjoyment with the method of separating different hardware from one another you maximize accessibilty and also maximize fairness due to people using the same tools there will be no more uncertainty that you might be losing time to hardware differences/version differences because everybody uses the same hardware/version in the category you decided to pick this method also allows you to play the game the way it's convenient for you or the way you grew up/enjoy the most you might be wondering why not just use the fastest hardware? wouldn't it aallow for a fair competetion aswell due to everybody using the same tools by using what is the fastest ? the reason to why the ruleset of using the fastest original system is flawed it's because it just doesn't offer anything new to the speedrun besides the system running faster essentially nothing has changed just the game running faster it just has the potential off invalidating a better executed run by using a system that's faster the problem with going by the fastest system is that everybody defines what original hardware is in a different way often times in speedrunning they are things that could be considered original hardware but every normal person could see that it would make the category so different that it would need separation like for example an original device which can speed up the game but at the same time under that ruleset of using the fastest original system it would be technically allowed that's one of the reason why it doesn't make sense to go by the fastest original hardware also due to the fact that usually in competetions if something is different and allows unfair competetion it gets seperated into a different category there is a reason why olympics and paralympics
