I'm sure you all know that the full game will release soon. (4 days hype!)
With the end of the 3rd and last beta, we have to prepare the leaderboard for the full game.
No run will be deleted - we want to keep the records up. We'll move the Beta categories into a subsection, they'll become Misc. categories.
Instead there will be a "Complete the Story" category, as is tradition in speedrunning, it's called Any%. Any% runs are from a new game to the credits. specifics will be known when the game releases. If the need for it arises, there will also be a "all key quests" category or something similar, which can be done from an already completed file.
What does this mean? It means they won't show up as they do right now, but rather on a small sub-menu next to the normal categories.
Why the change? You can't play the Beta anymore, not to mention they'll be forgotten in 3 weeks anyway.
On another topic: I've been messaged multiple times about the pod exploit, and especially my stance on it. For Beta runs, to me all is fair game. It's a beta, there are bugs and exploits, use em.
for the full game, I was told the exploit is fixed. If it should be somehow still possible to use, there will be a variable on the leaderboard to distinguish runs that use it.

If you want to still have your speedrun listed, you can post it into https://www.speedrun.com/mhw/Not-Listed_Quest with a note on what quest it is, we'll add the quest when we see it.
Having the limited events on the board could lock out others from doing those run, if they never come back which means it would be very restrictive to people. But not sure how they are handling the timed events.

It's restrictive to increase sales, doesn't really impact us.
It does impact us as runners for those that would want to do runs but not be allowed to do them due to a timed or unavailable reason due to the game. So i don't see the reason for them to be listed and this would also go for many other games if that was the same case.
There's many other quest runs that you can do though it's not like you're getting gated out of doing a majority of runs
true but still wanted to voice it regardless, interested a bit in doing runs for this game but not till a much later point.
imo voice it to capcom, they're the ones responsible for making it timed. I for one won't even be able to play the current timed quest casually, yet alone attempt to speedrun it.
Kinda why I mentioned it in the same boat atm. but everything else is possible in the near future as I learned more about of this one operates as I've played previous games but never ran any of them. But yeah maybe they return after awhile tho not sure very limited info on them.
It looks to me like the old MMO "do it now or you'll never get it" tactic. I don't have much issue with it because as soon as the game hits PC all quests & items will be available at all times anyway, at least for single-player/offline.
Looking forward to possibly doing runs in the future tho, I do have one possible suggestion. For Any% and other categories that it would apply to: New Game and NG+ be options for full game runs. Obviously starting runs from the file select screen.
Not sure how a NG+ run would work since you can't redo assigned quests :( really really stupid
There is equivalent optional quests that appear only after you cleared the main quests and they do end up being marked as complete after you do the story version. So we would need to do those specific ones for any% as an example. This is just an idea as many of the quests are marked with a cetrain icon to make them identifyable.
Also side note why is any% atm not till credits or similar strong indicated main game end point? Vaugly stating last hunt which I assume is because no one has reached it yet to clarify it.
I have nothing against adding "all story-related optional quests" as a category, but I'd rather only add it (and other super-arbitrary stuff) only after a run has been made.
the first run made will be used for specifics, until then char creation -> story finishing hunt / credits unlock will be used to "define" the timing.
Makes sense. in regards to ng+ thinking about it based on how the monhunt games are makes sense why NG+ isn't really a thing hence why IL would be used instead. Sorry if there is any confusion on my part kinda the first time I even considered doing a game like this because it's actually viable to record without special hardware.
Any chance of a low rank category? considering the full story will likely be more than 10 hours long, a low rank story category seems more than reasonable.
Generally thats how a logical community and board is run and set up as. no effort then why wast the time to do it.
side note kinda thing about starting to do some IL runs soon. just need more practice and skill with how I do the hunts.
