Block of text is hard to read

It's just mismanagement and poor decision making, you act as if src was better before it was bought out

hypothetically we did all make one week pause of not using the site, it doesnt really matter. the data is here people can look at leaderboards etc. it would need a long boycott to make leaderboards inaccurate, to actually do something fast like a strike. leaderboard moderaters would have to grief their own leaderboards.

nobody is willing to put that much work into it.

Game moderators should never destroy or vandalize their own leaderboards. It's stupid and won't accomplish anything, plus it shows they don't deserve to be game moderators in the first place.

if many big boards would just hide the leaderboards as a strike behind variables it would probably be enough. no proper griefing needed.

@Tutterey The boycott she proposed wouldn’t start until October 3rd. It’s in the image.

You need specific, tangible demands if you want this boycott to lead to any real action. Just saying you're gonna boycott the site until they "fix" it doesn't give them any idea of what you actually want. "Listen to the community" is extraordinarily vague too, and frankly given the size of the speedrunning community and the vastly varying needs of the site's userbase, not really a simple thing for them to do. Once you've got that sorted out, you then need to figure out a line of communication with Elo to communicate the demands and get a specific timeline for when those demands will be met.

Also, not to be a doomer here, but if the main goal of the boycott is just to hit their ad revenue, probably worth noting that most of the people that would participate in a boycott for this are most likely already using an adblocker.

Just spitballing here but here's a few ideas of possible demands that seem to fit the general theme of what people want here:

 • Finish all features that have already been promised ASAP (most notably, mod tools)
 • An open feedback hub where people can suggest and vote for changes/new features they want, similar to Twitch's UserVoice system
 • Communicate all changes to the site itself or site policy with the community
 • Regular (let's say, idk, monthly) progress updates on features that are in development

There is a much easier way to break the top leaderboards without erasing anything. Game mods can set their url to one letter characters and then when their game is clicked on in the "all games" area, it takes the person to that profile. Not sure how that would accomplish much though.

dare there are only that many one letter names. also variable fuckup is better. if it would need to be done.

Yeah not sure how many games would agree to do that tho... I know "0" resets your game to its original link it started with

Getting yourself banned by breaking very explicit moderation rules and losing all your leverage is not a good plan.
Leaderboards shall not be used for site protests, protests of game developer decisions, or general advocacy on social issues.
I don't know why people are even talking about this. Even if it is easy to reverse please just do not vandalize leaderboards. If it gets to a point where that actually seems like the best option for protesting, instead just leave the site entirely, that'll have pretty much the same effect.

like i said: "if most big boards" do it. they cant purge all 🤷. i see this as a union perspective: yes striking was originally not allowed, but it was done anyways and lead to improvment of working conditions. and honestly just forming a larger agreement under leaderboard mods to be willing to do it is as effective as doing it. and considering they broke laws about advertisement in some countries. breaking the moderation rules isnt that bad :KEK: especially because for some leaderboards they are anyways just treated like guidelines.
