-YIE AR KUNG-FU SPEEDRUN GUIDE-

Made by Kromer.

In this text guide i will be teaching you everything that is necessary to have a good time in this game, from AI Manipulation to which attack is better for each opponent.

-SUMMARY-

  1. How the game works
  2. AI behavior
  3. How to Manipulate AI
  4. Attack types
  5. How to Speedrun
  6. The theorical best time possible

-HOW THE GAME WORKS-

This game is a pretty old fighting game, that only carries the concept of hit per hit battles, until the opponent gets beaten. It has a Score System (which is not important for speedrun though) and of course the health bar of both current characters on the screen, a Life Counter that starts with 2 lifes, and go up everytime you successfully finish a bonus match. Bonus matches are totally optional, it's a kind of minigame where you have to destroy all projectiles that are thrown at you, but we never want to do this, so just get hit once, then the game will put you on the next Stage. Every character (player and all enemies) takes exactly 10 hits to be beaten, no matter how further you proceed, it is always 10 hits, the game characters are the following:

Lee (Main Character) Wang (Kendo Stick fighter) Tao (Fireball Spitter) Chen (Spikeball w/ chain Fighter) Lang (Ninja-style lady) Mu (Monk Fighter/arguably final boss)

Each one of them have their own AI propperties based on their attributes (attack/defense rate, speed and attack types), it means that each one of them has the own strat to be beaten. After beating one loop, the game keeps pushing you for more loops, it only changes the scenario color and the AI behavior for all enemies, they get faster and tend to use new attacks, but never get stronger.

-AI BEHAVIOR-

AI almost works as the same for every enemy, the difference is their attributes, for example, Tao, Lang and Mu are fast enemies, so they will always try to get a good space when they can by tricking you to fail your manipulation pattern in order to break free from your strat. In the other hand, Wang and Chen will always follow you manipulation, if you manage to do it correctly.

-HOW TO MANIPULATE AI-

The AI is affected by every single frame of your actions during the run, it affects which attack they will use and how the RNG value will be applied according to the situation. The main strat to manipulate AI is the strat i call "Corner Pressure", it's basically going back and forth after each attack you hit to keep the opponent in the corner. After the first corner attack, the AI tends to always go back and forth, attempting to run pass you to the other side just to get more space to act and make long range attacks, but after every attack that connects (no matter who gets hit, either you or the enemy) the game freezes both characters to show who got the hit, but it always reactivate the player's control about 6 frames earlier compared to the AI, which open a decent window making the corner pressure easier to pull off.

  • ATTACK TYPES-

This game doesn't have any kind of special atracks or things like this, so i will give you just a brief overview of each attack you are capable of doing:

Straight Punch - Essential Against Tao. Low Punch - Essential against Chen. High Kick - Essential against Lang and Mu. Middle Kick - Useless. Low Kick - Essential against Wang. Flying Kick - Useless.

-HOW TO SPEEDRUN-

Now i will teach each strat that is used, how to act properly against every enemy, and then i will let below the best time i got on each one of them:

WANG: right off the bat, keep holding forward, you will want to straight punch him 2 times, so hold forward, hit one punch, forward again, then hit the second, after the second punch, do a little back and forth, just a little tap, like 4 frames, then kick him in the head, after that, he will keep doing the SAME thing, just going back and forth attempting to get out of the corner, so after the High Kick, keep hitting him with Low Kicks (i use Low Kicks because it has the best range compared to other attacks, so it save some frames), about 7 timed Low Kicks and he will be done.

My best time on Wang: 13sec780ms

TAO: Pretty simple, walk forward, hit 1 straight punch, will be enough to push him to the corner, then just keep pressuring him in the corner and hitting straight punches until the end, sometimes he will try to kick you and even manage to get out of the corner, this is totally RNG dependant, so follow the strat and hope for the best.

My best time on Tao: 36sec980ms

CHEN: Pretty simple, its the same strat used with Tao, but instead of straight punches, use Low Punches, because the chances of you getting hit with Low Punches is lower then other attacks, fortunately, he is more kind then Tao, so its easier to pull off Corner Pressure against him.

My best time on Chen: 01min02sec120ms

BONUS STAGE: Walk forward and get hit by the knife to skip the stage, you can also perform a frame perfect forward jump to get hit faster, but it doesn't compensate because it's too risky and only save about 10-15 frames.

My best time on Bonus Stage: 01min13sec440ms

LANG: The same strat used with Chen, hit 1 Low Punch, and when Lang goes to the corner, keep pressuring and High Kicking her in the head until you win, she may throw a Shuriken at you interrupting your hit streak, but this is also RNG dependant.

My best time on Lang: 01min32sec60ms

MU: At the very beginning, one of two things can happen, he will do the Flying Attack, or just stand in front of you waiting for a kick in the head, if he fly attack you, then you will already have him positioned in the opposite corner, if he stand still, just kick him to move him to the corner, either way, you will need a very precise corner pressure, because Mu has this annoying kick which has a bigger range than any of your attacks, just a little practice and you will get the job done.

My best time on Mu: 01min57sec240ms (Actual WR)

-THE THEORICAL BEST TIME POSSIBLE-

As far as my research goes, the best time (humanly possible) i could figure is 01:53.XXX, with proper clutchness and also being a damageless run.

Here i will post my actual PB/WR for anyone wondering a footage base to use as learning complement:
