Hi again.
Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum.
I only have the PAL version of Wave Race 64 as I live in the UK myself, so don't have access to the NTSC version. It's such a shame that the versions are different as I would love to have a go at some of the record times. It's the sort of game where you genuinely notice the split seconds coming off your time with every attempt.
Probably the easiest way to play NTSC in PaL regions is with a modified wii, playing on the US ntsc vc version. Otherwise, you may want to look into getting a multi crt that can play both ntsc and pal games, and get either an ntsc-u or mtsc-j n64 with the japanese shindou version of wave race 64. Currently all top 5 players are using this version of the game.
Yo! Don't be too discouraged to start out on PAL! Though Shibby makes very good points as that is the ¤optimal¤ way to speedrun the game, it's not the only way!
Check out my guide here, it has some useful resources on this topic if you're interested: http://www.speedrun.com/wr64/thread/0tjn3/1#roufc
Hopefully we'll see you running some levels! Cheers m8!
My two cents regarding PAL:
I think it wouldn't be a problem to just allow people to submit PAL times, as long as it is clearly stated in the rules that it is not possible to compete with it against NTSC. The benefit of this would be that PAL runners could also use this sites functionality to track their best times and compete against each other. Thanks to the region variable, you can display only a specific region with a single click.
Hello all! My name is Frankie Morgan. You can find me on the MK64 website, here is my time sheet http://www.mariokart64.com/mk64/timesheet.cgi?FrankieMorgan
I stumbled across Shibby's videos on the elite a few months ago. Just wanted to introduce myself. Once I finish accumulating the remaining Mario Kart 64 Gods I was thinking about some serious wave race.
I am going to dig around the forum more and watch some more videos. Keep posting these great times everyone!
Been playing Sunny Beach and Drake Lake a bit. I guess everyone plays SB first. DL is nice because of the lack of wake. It is allowing me to more accurately determine what is fast and what is not!
I hit a nice streak on SB yesterday. Still trying to gain intuition for dealing with the wake though. Making turns without bobbing is still difficult. Managed a top 15 fast lap time. Will start recording my runs in hopes of landing something worthy. I am very close to sub 1'05"000 on the 3 lap and best split potential would put me just outside the 1'04'000 sub. Still terribly inconsistent though.
