Wario Land Any% No Major Skips Speedrun Guide
Updated 6 years ago by Breadpan

First and foremost here are some things you should know:

  1. Do yourself a favor and start over if you mess up on Rice Beach.
  2. Resetting the game costs 12 seconds AT LEAST just to get back on the overworld. (Depends on what file you chose to play on)
  3. Don't reset more than twice in one level. At that point you're just losing time no matter what.
  4. Unless you're vlackSR, don't try to be fancy at the end.
  5. Break blocks faster by hitting a block while crouching and then immediately let go of down.
  6. To quote Rob 'Mickey_Mage' Whitener, "The trick to staying in the air with the Jet hat for long periods of time is quickly tapping the same button you start jetting with twice again, quickly, to keep going. Turning around, on the other hand, requires you to let go of B, hitting the direction pad the other way, and quickly hitting B again to go the other way."
  7. Try to end up with 0 coins at the end of every level as conveniently as possible. 8: You can easily boost right through the blades hanging from the roof and spikes with the Jet Hat.
  8. The Jet Hat has basically no hit box, so don't be afraid to try some dangerous-looking clips.
  9. Hold up-right to jump faster.
  10. If you die or are hit in a bad position to be small (I’ll explain how to know that below), your first reaction should be IMMEDIATELY RESET. If you die and wait too long, you’ll lose the Jet Hat.
  11. I will reference vlackSR a lot, so here are the links to his two main runs: NMS:

Any%: 13. When say reset, I mean reset the game, when I say start over, start the whole run over. 14: Please feel free to let me know about any mistakes I have made. I'm going to describe each level with 5 categories: Level-Specific Reminders: (LSR for short) Whether or not to reset: (Reset for short) Where to go for a Jet Hat (The best hat) if you lose it: (Jet Hat for short) Where to get exactly 10 coins (most of the time): (Coins for short) Boss: (Only on boss stages)

Rice Beach

1st RB Stage: LSR: Don't mess up. Reset: if you mess up if you're anywhere near the 1st half of the level. Jet Hat: The first jet hat is in the 2nd level. Coins: Preferably on the right side of the huge pile of barrels on the 2nd half of the stage

2nd RB Stage:

LSR: Don't mess up. Reset: If you mess up. Jet Hat: The only jet hat is in a block on the bottom row of three rows about halfway (maybe 2/5) through the level Coins: Near the end, there will be 12 coins in groups of 4.

3rd RB Stage: LSR: Flying through the 'sand falls' in the last room will not slow you down. Reset: Start over if you mess up. (It's really not that hard though.) Jet Hat: N/A Coins: Near the end, there will be 12 coins in groups of 3. Grab 9 and get the tenth from an enemy in the last room.

4th RB Stage: LSR: vlackSR did a pretty impressive looking skip here (Go to NMS stream at 4:03) but I would just recommend trying the second half of it. Try to super jump on the bird thing as high as you possibly can. Reset: If you die, start over. Jet hat: Unless you are in the last room (in that case go to level 2 after beating it), if you lose the Jet Hat, there's no way to replace it here. Coins: The amount of coins the blocks give you is pure RNG, but try to use the last 2 enemies to get to 10. (The door's open anyway though.

5th RB Stage: LSR: Stand on top of the first "question block" and time an 'infinite' Jet boost under the first Thwomp and over the other two to get a pretty safe 2nd room. Reset: If you get hit near the beginning, reset the game only. (not the timer for once.) If you get hit anywhere past the 3rd room just go to the boss. It's a bit difficult, but you can beat the first boss with small Wario and still be okay because a Jet Hat: is easily accessible in the next level. Coins: Get the 4 coins at the beginning and the collect 6 as you fly over the second Thwomp. (mentioned above) Take out your 10 coins in the 3rd room and kill the spikey thing going counter-clockwise. (This saves a little time and is safer) Boss: Jet or Normal Wario: Immediately charge into his stomach, avoid his shell, and then immediately charge into him once he come out. Avoid all coins upon defeat.

Mt. Teapot: 1st MT Stage: Go here for the Jet Hat until SS Teacup except for MT 5. (Go to MT 4 for that one) LSR: By jumping as high as you can and boosting against the left barrier when you start, you can land on a higher platform and fly all the way over to the top of a 'tower' that is high enough to let you fly over the whole level. If you failed the flight or came in as normal Wario, grab the Jet Hat right under the ‘tower’ if needed and break the blocks under there to a door, go up the ladder, and continue. Reset: If you fall into the water in between other ‘towers’ after the main one, reset. Jet Hat: There's one under the ‘tower’ I mentioned earlier. Coins: Get the 10 coins in the air right after the ‘tower’.

2nd MT Stage: LSR: Nothing really Reset: Only reset if a bomb in the second room hits you. Jet Hat: 1st one: End of first room. 2nd one: On the right side of one of the blocks in the room with the current Coins: Get the first 6 coins in the first room and then the other 4 in the next room.

3rd MT Stage: LSR: Watch out for a hermit crab thing that’s really close to the door you come out of in the second room. Reset: Only reset if you get hit in the first room. Jet Hat: None Coins: In the second ‘hallway’ room stay near the ground and there will be 2 sets of 6 coins. Grab 4 from one and 6 from the other.

4th MT Stage: LSR: Near the very end there’s a platform against a wall. Brush up against the wall under the platform to avoid a hermit crab thing that is right there once you get to ground level. Reset: Don’t reset anywhere. Even if you get hit right after you get the second Jet Hat, the journey up the mountain is not difficult, and you can easily get any powerup on the way up for some protection when you jump off the edge to land in the pool below. Jet Hat: There’s one Hat near the beginning and another one not shortly after, just before the mountain. Coins: Get them near the beginning or if you forget, near the end. (both in the water)

5th MT Stage: LSR: If you left the previous stage as normal Wario, don’t bother getting the Jet Hat from another level or the first room of this level. Get hit by the first enemy, hold up-right and jump as much as possible (also do really short quick hops over the blocks unless an enemy above is in position to hit you). The door is hidden behind the set of blocks 6 levels down from where you started so break the bottom middle block from the 7th floor down and enter there. This loses you basically no time if you don’t mess up since the next two room are not made any faster by the Jet Hat. Simply grab the Jet Hat in the third room. If you have the Jet Hat, just boost as much as possible and crawl when necessary. In the third room, climb down so you bounce off the first enemy spear and fall down the ladder, but catch yourself above the last enemy’s spear so you don’t get hit. Also remember to get the star in the 6th room. Reset: If get hit after grabbing the Jet Hat in the third room, reset (otherwise the 5th room will take a very long time). If you didn’t get the hat there, just go back and get it. Jet Hat: Don’t try to get the hat in the first room but go for the one in the third if you need it. Coins: Door is open at the end.

6th MT Stage: LSR: This might just the the easiest level in the whole game. Reset: Only if you get hit at the VERY beginning. Jet Hat: Nope. Coins: Button at the end (N/A)

MT Boss Stage: LSR: You can fly from the bomb enemies’ explosions even if they’re attached to you. Reset: Other than that, you’ll be relatively fine just continuing forward and grabbing any helmet on the way to the last two rooms. You’ll need to at least be normal size if you need the Jet Hat: ,which will be one row up in the room before the boss. There’s also one earlier in the stage, but it’s in a really awkward position so go ahead and go for it if you can get it quickly and consistently. Coins: N/A Boss: Just charge him, pick him up,(if no Jet Hat, find some other way to pick him up) toss him over the edge and jump off after him once the coins start spawning to end the sequence quicker. Did they even test this boss?

Stove Canyon: Get the Jet Hats from Mt. Teapot if necessary

1st SC Stage: LSR: Get the star near the long set of ladders and spear enemies and jump down the ladders instead of climbing down them. Reset: Don’t reset even if you get hit at the beginning. Jet Hat: Nothing. Coins: Door is open at the end

2nd SC Stage: LSR: Nothing really Reset: You can probably get by without resetting anywhere with Bull Wario. Jet Hat: Nothing Coins: Doesn’t really matter where you get them.

3rd SC Stage: (Oh by the way this is one of the hardest levels) LSR: You can fly past the ladders, but remember no matter what the ladders are really fidgety. Also don’t jump in the last room. Instead, just ‘glide’ across the pit. (There’s an invisible block you might hit if you jump and boost forward whose placement is worthy of the average Mario Maker level.) Reset: If you get hit long before the ladders, reset. Jet Hat: There’s one in the ladder’s section. Coins: The slower way (but safer): Collect them on the way across pits. The faster way (but needs more practice): Get the first 4 coins and then boost past 6 coins at the bottom of the ladder section.

4th SC Stage: LSR: Just don’t get tripped up by the springboards I guess. Reset: Using Bull Wario to get to the end is still faster than resetting. Jet Hat: Nope. Coins: Just collect them on the way.

SC Boss Stage: LSR: Be really cautious around the fire balls that spring up. Reset: Reset if you get hit anywhere other than in the ‘Fireball gauntlet’ (as I like to call it) and the rest of the stage. Jet Hat: Nothing Coins: N/A Boss: Getting frequent meteors (I think that’s what they are) is slightly shorter than getting infrequent meteors and jumping into the acid to end the sequence earlier after finally hitting him 3 times. vlackSR did a really impressive quick kill here, (Go to his Any% run at 7:53) but it’s pretty difficult. (At least for me.)

SS Teacup: (Easiest world in my opinion)

1st SSTC Stage: LSR: Watch out for the crocodiles. Reset: Only reset if you get hit at the VERY beginning. Jet Hat: There’s one halfway into the stage. Coins: Get the 2 sets of 5 coins in the first room.

2nd SSTC Stage: LSR: Explaining this first room well is really difficult, so here’s a clip of what you should do. (NMS run at 20:06)(It’s pretty easy actually) Reset: Reset if you are hit in the first or second room, especially if you already grabbed the Jet Hat: in the first block you see. (Come back to this one if you need it for the next two stages.) Coins: Get them from the conveyor belt roof lined with coins and get the last few from enemies.

3rd SSTC Stage: At the first set of barrels if you jump relatively high and fall right over the 5th buried barrel, you’ll land on an invisible platform for some reason. I’m trying to figure out if there is a way to use one of the birds to pan the stage up to an empty space and fly over the level like in RB 4 (or just use a bird somewhere else to do the same thing here). If someone could find something with that, that would be really helpful. LSR: There’s this random barrier preventing you from flying above view but it’s only over the first pool of water. Reset: Reset if you get hit pretty quickly after getting the Jet Hat: in the second block over the first pool.

4th SSTC Stage: LSR: The way to go through the ship is up-right as far as possible, down the ladder, then up-left as far as possible, then the rest is pretty straightforward. If you want to make the next level a lot safer/easier but slower, finish the level with the Bull Hat but get the coins by getting them from above the 3rd ladder and on the way down the next ladder. Reset: Unless hit by crocodile, don’t reset. Jet Hat: There’s one on the way down the ladder. Coins: Get 5 out of the 10 coins at the beginning, then get 2 more by flying against the roof after going up the 3rd ladder, and then the last 3 on the way down the ladder.

Boss SSTC Stage: LSR: Most of the level is just going forward but when you get outside of the ship, fly over the 2 blocks, and go up the ladder and towards the mass of ladders to the right. If you stop boosting in front of a ladder, you can jump up from there to get some height speed. If you want to continue with the safer way I mentioned earlier, don’t go through the first door. Instead, ground-pound the blocks to the right and hit the middle block in a trio of blocks close by here to get your Jet Hat back. Reset: Don’t reset. If you get hit outside, just grab some garlic for the boss fight. Jet Hat: There’s one you can grab incredibly quickly here near the beginning so come back here if you need the Jet Hat from here on out. If you get hit in the second or third room and you already took the hat in the first room, get the Dragon Hat at the end of the 3rd room and break the blocks at the very right to find the trio of blocks I mentioned earlier. Coins. N/A Boss: First: Just hold right immediately until you’re on the last tile. Then quickly jump so that Wario ‘slides’ between the back of the bird and the right boundary until the bird takes a hit. Then hit the undersides of the little birds while crouching to easily get it quicker and throw it at the big bird’s face. Then do it again. Of course, vlackSR did a really impressive quick kill (NMS Run at 23:59) but I wouldn’t recommend trying it. Once the coins start spawning, jump of the ledge.

Parsley Woods: (This one is the most broken world.)

1st PW stage: LSR: If you got hurt in the SSTC Boss fight, you have no choice but to slowly trudge through this level until you get the Jet Hat there. Reset: If you got hurt in the SSTC Boss fight there is no point in resetting since you can't go back to get the Jet Hat. Otherwise, only reset if damaged near the beginning of the stage. Jet Hat: There is one relatively far into the level Coins: You will most likely have 20 by the end of the level so don't worry about that. (Come back to this one)

2nd PW Stage: LSR: It's really easy and you don't need any coins but if you lose the Jet Hat, Bull Wario will do. Reset: Reset if a death early on. Jet Hat: Nope Coins: It's a button level (N/A)

3rd PW Stage: LSR: There’s a level wrap that saves a lot of time (Of course vlackSR did it. Any% run at 14:11) (He also did a video on it with button inputs on the side: ) but I haven’t been able to pull it off. Reset: Don’t reset if hit. Jet Hat: Near the beginning of the first autoscroller section. Coins: Door is open at the end.

4th PW Stage: LSR: There is a out of bounds skip right outside the first water section. Since it’s hard to tell how to do it by watching, I will explain. Once done with the first water section, jump high enough to the point where the bottom of Wario’s shoe is barely brushing over the top of of a cloud upon flying straight right. Then stop once you can’t see Wario, walk very slightly to the right then hold left for about a second. The screen should pan over and you should be able to see a door close to you where upon entering, you’ll be shoved out of a door you would normally need a key to enter. If you keep flying past the place where you're supposed to stop everything's hit box gets messed up.(Here’s the timestamp for the any% run anyway though: 15:37) Also the spikey fish things can be easily bypassed by clipping through them at the right angle. Reset: If you get hit, reset. Jet Hat: There is one in this level but doing the out of bounds glitch will pass it. Coins: You’ll most likely get more than enough coins just by going through it.

4th PW Stage: (The most easily broken stage in the whole game.) LSR: Oh boy, here we go. There is a much shorter version of this skip but I've never been able to do it. (Here’s the timestamp in vlackSR’s Any% run: 16:16. And here’s his video on it: ) Anyway, there is still a way of flying through the the whole stage but it takes longer. First, jump onto the little thing sticking out of the first train car in the level, jump as high as you can, and boost towards the left boundary. Once you see Wario appear from the right, press A to stop flying, and fall beneath the floor. Once the screen has panned down 1 time, fly to the right until the screen stops scrolling. Fly past the right boundary, and once Wario appears on the left, fall to let the screen pan down one last time, and you will see the end of the first auto scroller part. You can technically land here but the hit boxes are all messed up so it's safer to keep Wario in the air. Next land right outside of view, maybe seeing a few pixels of Wario’s back. This takes a little practice, but once you have it down, hold left for about a second, wait for the screen to pan, and continue right. The screen will immediately jump back but even though you can't see him, have Wario walk to the right just a tiny bit and hold left for about a second. Repeat this until you can have Wario continue right (which should only take 2 or 3 tries). Jump and continue flying right until the screen jumps to the right, showing the beginning of the next auto scroller section. Then while still airborne, fly past the left boundary and once you appear back on the right side, everything will be loaded correctly, with the exception of the slow auto scrolling. Now keep flying to the right until you get to the door. Now you can beat the level like normal. (Greenalink did a good video on this; here’s the link:)

Reset: If you get hit in any part, with the exception of the last two rooms, reset. Jet Hat: Don't even try to find a Jet Hat here. Coins: Door is open at the end.

PW Boss Stage: (Another pretty difficult stage) LSR: It's okay to lose Jet Wario if you are a good chunk into the level, as it is not necessary to beat the boss. At least make sure you're normal sized for that. Reset: If you lose Jet Hat near the beginning. Jet Hat: Nope Coins: N/A Boss: This can be done in a few different ways, ranging from vlackSR’s quick kill (NMS at 17:48. And his video: ) to my strategy, which is finding the perfect spot for its little ghosts to land in your hand upon spawning after being frozen there (the placement is roughly where Wario’s head is just barely above the bottom of the background’s ‘eye’ and his face is just barely past the right border of the background’s ‘nose’. Here’s a pic. Just copy and paste it into your search bar if the link doesn't work) https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1m1NHhD99WPCQhheLHlJzCT75F2xTRwJ6x-IiRL1h7-o/embed?start=true&loop=true&delayms=60000 and pressing B as soon as possible once a ghost lands in your hand, to doing the safest way, fighting him so he only spawns one ghost at a time, and finally, to doing it the casual way. Syrup Castle:

1st SC Stage: LSR: Lot of spike balls here. Reset: If you get hit before the halfway point. Jet Hat: Nope. Coins: I personally like to get them where the last of the spike balls fall, but it doesn’t really matter a whole lot.

2nd SC Stage: LSR: Use the block-breaking exploit in the 3rd room. The 5th room can be a little crazy, but just avoid the fire balls and remember that if the birds hit the top of your head, you’re totally safe. There is also another Jet Hat here in case you mess up. There’s a star at the beginning of the long hallway of spear enemies and then a possible level wrap. (vlackSR’s Any% run at 20:36) Reset: If you get hit in the first or the third room, reset. Jet Hat: There’s the one in the 5th room and there’s one conveniently right after the area you need it most. (Those two rooms with all those ladders.) Coins: Button at the end (N/A)

3rd SC Stage: LSR: Remember you can just boost right through the hanging blades in the 2nd room. In the 4th room, after jumping through the first opening there is a pretty tight jump that gets you on the top opening so you can fly over to the next platform easily and then drop down and fly over to the door. If you can't get it consistently, fly at ground level to the opening below and wait for the first platform to come back up so you can jump up and boost forward on the same path. Once again, there is a possible level wrap in the first room. It brings you to the door above the end of the 3rd room but I don’t know if it’s faster or not. (Here’s the link to a video he did on it anyway: )

Reset: Reset if you get hit in the first area. Jet Hat: Coins: Button at the end (N/A)

LAST LEVEL: SLR: Stay above the screen so you can get some of the coins you’ll need later, unless you can do the level wrap in the second room. (Any% at 23:02 Also video: ) Reset: Reset whenever you get hit. Continuing would make the final battle incredibly slow. Jet Hat: Nope. Coins: Make sure you have at least 20 coins before going into the 2nd room. Start by standing on top of the block farthest to the right and throw a coin at the guard right as it begins to walk in front of the door and then fly over and charge into the back of it once it slows down. Then throw another coin at the guard in the same way as the first throw once it slows down again. The Final Boss: Sadly, (but in kind of a funny way) this is the easiest boss in the game not counting the 2nd boss. Once he gets low enough, boost back and forth in front of his face until he dies. Time stops roughly around the time Wario loses the Jet Hat.

And there you go. Now sit back and watch as Wario walks back and forth in front of a birdhouse for 5 or so minutes.
