Darn, that sucks.
Well that's understandable. I'll try to do a real run using it when I get home.
Also I'm not sure if this will actually be faster, but are we looking at there maybe being an "any%" where you can do a bunch of glitches and just move the current any% run to "any% glitch less"? Because I'd love to be allowed to do runs with this kind of thing.
I'm just soo hyped (even if it gets banned).
And this is the reason I like to research into the game!!!! excuse the bad playing, I wasn't using my normal control scheme and I was just so fucking excited to find this. This is what I'd hoped clips would bring, but unfortunately it uses the alt+e glitch on the mac versions of the game. enjoy :)
No worries mate. Yeah I wasn't aware of the any% timer reset until I was watching ZZKer play the cat dlc and it just clicked. It's a bit of a pain to die 9 times at the start of each run, so if I ever get around to actually running the game again I think I'll give it a miss haha.
Sigack and I have been working on a general glitch guide that tries to explain how and why they work. it's available on google docs here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16Mxo096VXA_cqoZZqqSK7-3ZNbBxqvIM-_BJbXkrk58/edit?usp=sharing It's a bit rough around the edges, but hopefully it's understandable.
Well looking at the screen's xml in the map, only the top and bottom of "No Fun Without the Danger" have a remap, which is why you can fall out of bounds from the left. It's definitely more of a developer oversight than a clip. I'll probably update the doc to at least mention it when I get a chance.
Although it might be worth making a slightly more in depth doc about the game's glitches in general. As that would give me an excuse to talk about password storage and hollow king skip.
Also in case anyone is interested, sigack generated an image marking all the potential clip spots in the steam, non-steam and extra spicy maps. I'm currently hosting them here: https://turnipp.github.io/YHtWtG-Map-Viewer/ because most image sites don't like massive images, downloading them is the only way to really look at them tho. The positions of the screens in the images are the same as in the game.
Yeah I was just watching your past broad cast on twitch page 15 mins ago and had no idea where that was. This might maybe be useful in 100%, but I've never even seen a 100% run so idk. Also the ceiling is the password entry screen, in the non-steam version you'd be able to clip into the win/lose screen. Very cool though.
Also the creator released both the steam and extra spicy maps on his ask.fm account. Sigack wasn't able to find any new clips in extra spicy. but the maps are handy to have for testing/practice purposes at least.
Yeah, I'll give it a go when I can. The only issue is that the Sigack's program requires the game's map files, so I'll have to obtain a copy of the extra spicy map. I've asked the creator to release a spec for the npk format used by his games, which would be ideal, but hopefully at the very least I can get a copy of the map.
I've created a segmented run for both routes and have put the two videos side by side here:
The runs aren't perfect, but it might give you an idea for the time save. As you can see the alt route is not a major time save and is more prone to messing up, so I'd say it's not worth going for unless the game routing becomes incredibly optimised.
Yeah, I didn't count a lot of the platform clips as they are basically working as intended.
SigAck wrote a basic program to find transition clips but the only new one found was one on the bottom of 'Leap of Faith', but it's so useless/boring it's not even worth showing in the doc. Looking into the game code, the only things that can cause a transition clip is bells, teleporters and screen transitions, so the trail has kinda gone cold. To be fair I have been ignoring the extra spicy map, so maybe there's something there.
I think it's a 2 pixel jump actually, but yeah I've been planing to try and take the low% record and then start using the spike jump in any% if I can get it consistently (unlikely). I was able to bet Mariobatalijr's any% run from 'Hollow King Transformed' to the blue platform on 'Abstract Bridge' by less than a second using the spike jump in practice. My 'Functional Spelaeology' / 'Cognitive Resonance' jumps where bad and I think Mariobatalijr wall jumped a bit too high on 'Does Whatever a Spider Does', so I'm not sure what the time save would be when comparing optimal conditions.
If you get a well timed double jump in 'Functional Spelaeology' / 'Cognitive Resonance' and get the spike jump on the right, it'd definitely save time. A few weeks ago I wanted to do 2 TAS runs to compare the two routes, but PC TAS tools are quite lacking and I unfortunately couldn't even get the game to run when using them.
Anyway, hopefully you can get something out of my ramblings.
Cool, thanks for pointing that out. I've updated the google doc to include it. I hope you don't mind but I used a snippet of your video in the doc because I wasn't able to reproduce it with my subpar wall jumping skills.
I'm not sure if it's different in the steam version, but in the non-steam version Consolation Prize is 2 screens to the right of Linchpin and Eponymous is one screen down from Consolation Prize.
I've been having fun playing around with some of the clips in YHtWtG and decided to do a small guide on the topic. The guide can be found on google docs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iPk9cFz-WTkmfYQBrHvKEuP54mlDaTBTpOJHqzzCyIw/edit?usp=sharing
The Platform clip is arguably not a clip, but it has an interesting affect on the player some times so I added it.
My main concern is that the Transition clip explanation is possibly hard to understand.
Let me know any feedback.
So this is a simple trick. The in-game timer is saved on contact with a bell. By exiting to the Main Menu and then Continuing, you will be restored at your last bell with your in-game time set back to the previously saved time.
This means you can redo a section of the run over (from the last bell) with no time penalty.
The rules don't mention this trick. I'm guessing this is not allowed though.
Side note: This trick makes it possible to do password storage glitch within a single run, without any in-game time lose.
Edit: Forgot to mention that dying and respawning at a bell does not count as hitting the bell, so the last save will not be affected. meaning exiting and continuing will still work.
cool, hopefully it works for you with no problems. If you do run into any problems just let me know.
Hello, me and Sigack have been working on a YHtWtG Autosplitter for Livesplit. It should work for both steam and non-steam versions of the game.
The Autosplitter allows use of YhtWtG's in-game time in Livesplit, and will automatically split when orbs are collected.
For the script or more info here's the github page: https://github.com/Turnipp/YHtWtG-Auto-Splitter
Admittedly no great amount of testing has been preformed yet and I've only been able to test this on a few different computers, so it may not work on all systems.
If anyone checks it out let me know what you think.
