questions about RNG to explore:

  • how does the game calculate RNG?
  • enemy movement is influenced by the player position, but what effect does RNG have on it, if any?
  • enemy spawns seem to have fixed locations, but the number of enemies which spawn (and when) seem to be random
  • when enemies shoot seems to be random, but sometimes an enemy seems to get priority---it shoots 3-5 bullets at once. something to do with the sprite order?
  • the fortresses at the ends of areas seem to have a timer before they stop spawning enemies. is it a fixed timer? what determines its duration?
  • is an RNG manip run possible outside TAS? the power-on pattern seems amenable to such a thing

I think it would devolve into nonsense instantly. Like you said above, you could just make things cost $1, or change the starting money... If there was a specific mod set that made the game more interesting somehow, instead of just faster, that might work for a new category. But I also think for obscure games fewer categories is better.

That was my bad. I didn't realize that run used mods, or if i did, forgot to reject it after posting in this thread. Anyway i rejected the run, so vinnyocruz's best time is back to his first submitted no-mods run.

Edit: I just realized i approved another modded run by accident about two weeks ago. It's fixed now.

Out of curiosity - what advantage could be gained from using scripts? Could you TAS the game that way?

I've not actually done runs of this game, I just really like it. I don't know where the damage jump trick is useful.

To the mods -- Claw Recluse has a bunch of times on there -- both ILs and a run which has a better time than the top one on here, so it's probably worth getting those onto this leaderboard. There aren't videos, but there may be screenshots. If you contact the guy who does the site I'm sure he'd be happy to help out.

It would be awesome if, for games that already have a leaderboard somewhere else on the internet, there were game pages with just a link to the other leaderboard.
