Is there a strat for the final boss ? Especially the purple side, I can't beat it consistently...

Hello :) I recently tried to run thus game, and every time I have to hit Clayton 4 times to kill him. But in the WR run, he's dead in 3 hits. Is this RNG ? If not, could someone explain me the trick ?
