Hey there Zeddy,
A couple months ago the community realized that the differences between Vanilla and Definitive Dead Island are too impactful onto the pace of the respective speedruns and as such we split the boards in to two categories. However, there are speedrunners that specifically go through the site hunting for free World Records on low population speedrunning communities and we didnt want our leaderboards being picked apart by low effort vultures. As such we left the longstanding runs (since they do not use the newly developed methods that cause the drastic division between the two versions), so as to preserve the current competitive level.
Hopefully I see your runs submitted soon! Also we have a community Discord if you'd like to join: https://discord.gg/2YBqmf6
Welcome back Tirean!
We discovered that the fall damage glitch does not work in Definitive Edition and the Fury weapon drop glitch drops the weapon through the floor. As well some of the zombie spawns and damage is different between the games (ex. When escorting Ope across the two rope bridges 2 infected and a butcher spawn on Definitive but only 3 infected spawn on Vanilla). There are a couple more differences that affect the route and time. As such we decided to split the boards so people arent forced to buy a version they dont own to get the optimal version for running.
If you would like you can join our community Discord where once and a while we talk about Dead Island lol.
May is a bit of an interesting choice no? Cause the NASA marathon is around the end of May right? Would ARPGME be closer to the beginning of May then?
From the perspective of a student the best times for participating in a speedrun marathon is during the summer or in October. As long as those times are met than committing to participating and also viewing of a marathon is much easier even if they are longer than the current schedule. Also I think the competitions would be an interesting addition to the marathon, depends on what you had for ideas though.
Any news on your ability to livestream the marathon? Was thinking of submitting a run
Feel free to join the Dead Island Speedrunning Discord if you would like to organize a co-op run with some of our other runners! Im sure there will be another runner for Riptide or OG looking for co-op partners :)
The game and series have been relatively dead up until now so this board has not been fully fleshed out, expect the rules to be live tomorrow morning.
I invite you to join the official Dead Island Discord: https://discord.gg/jp3vU5Y

I could see that as being interesting
As a student who lives in Northern Ontario if the event is not in Toronto during the school year than there is <10% i will go to it. However if it is after the year is done, like in mid to the end of June, i would have a 90% likelihood of attending an event in most Southern Ontario/Quebec cities.
Also Niagra Falls would be a great city to have the event in, not sure about the geography factor though.
Hello, im interested in submitting a run but im new to running in marathons.. How do online marathons work per se? Also is there a limit to number of runs one can submit and are co-op runs allowed?
Thank you!
