Suggestion: Allow Climber's Agility DLC in runs

So the suggestion is to allow runners to use the following DLC:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/208802/Tomb_Raider_Agility_Skill/

Basically allowing you to use the Climber's Agility skill already from the beginning. Since Rise of the Tomb Raider any% allows using one of the DLCs, there's precendence to this.

Pros:

  1. You can jump roll throughout the entire game, saving a lot of time in movement.
  2. Some door clips would be faster/easier.
  3. Can jump roll through the radio talk with Reyes in Research Base exit, saving more time.
  4. Possible other time saves I can't think of right now.
  5. Bring new life to this run.

Cons:

  1. Requires the runners to buy something extra - it only costs $0.70 at full price so quite affordable, but still.
  2. Changes in rules to a long-standing category, making all current runs on the leaderboard 'out-of-date'.

So our options are:

  1. Change any% rules to allow CA DLC.
  2. Keep any% as is and create a separate category 'any% with CA'.
  3. Change any% rules to allow CA DLC and move all previous runs to a new category 'any% no DLC'.
  4. Forget about CA DLC altogether.

Of course everything above can also be applied to Glitchless and 100%. I personally prefer 1 or 3. What does everyone else think?

I am with you, I prefer 1 or 3. The "main" any% category in RotTR needs a DLC too so I think nobody would be angry about it if we do it in TR13 too. Also, CA brings freshness into the run and overall I think it is a very good idea.

I am all for option 3 having tried the CA DLC I wouldn't want to go back playing without it its a ton of fun. I don't like 1 because that makes all the prior runs easy to beat for others making it bad for ppl who wont run anymore. But I can see this bringing fresh life into the speedrun making it faster and more fun in general.

Well the way I understood the situation was as follows: We didn't realize in rottr that we all have a dlc installed for quite a bit until the swap pistol at campfire came up. All the runners active at that time (which was at the beginning not 5 years after release) had the dlc installed anyways so keeping the dlc was more like maintaining status quo. In tr2013 we would add a dlc that many runners didn't have / don't have to make the run a bit faster/easier/different, which means the two are not exactly the same. That being said nothing speaks against a category with dlc. However I strongly dislike option 1. Next to the reason Tau stated: "I don't like 1 because that makes all the prior runs easy to beat for others making it bad for ppl who wont run anymore." I personally would feel "robbed" as the option to run with dlc existed since the beginning but we decided against it... now 5 years later my pb becomes obsolete because someone had the idea to add that same dlc you have to pay extra money for anyways I'm ok with options 2 and 3 which are nearly the same (2 categories one with and one without dlc and the existing any% runs are still there). So basically it's just a question of what is/will be more popular and make that the main category. Looking at how active people run tr2013 atm it should be any% with dlc which means option 3 makes the most sense to me right now. If in some weird future most people think that running with dlc is trash and everybody runs without dlc we could make no dlc the main category again anyways.

I get what you mean, but I started running RotTR and read the rules and knew that I had to buy the DLC to even run it. It would be the same for new runners here in TR13. "The 5 years after release" argument doesn't count for me because I had to buy the DLC in RotTR because I was not there 2 years ago. I get that you "kind of forget" about it, but I do think it is the same situation in general. And why would you think that new RotTR runners have the DLC now?

Edit: But I am not here to argue, I am fine with option 3 . We will just see what prevails for the main category, just like you said.

Imagine 2 sports, sport A which allows the use of doping and sport B which doesn't allow the use of doping. Now both sports exist for a while but then sport organisation B decides to allow doping. From that moment sport A and B look the same to an outsider as they both allow the use of doping. And an athlete who wants to start competing in either sports has to buy and use doping. For an athlete who competed clean in sport B it is not the same however as his performances now get compared with people who use doping. In sport A this situation never existed as everyone competing used doping since the introduction of the sport.

Or in short: Yes to someone completely new it is the same. To the people who have been running tr2013 in the past 5 years it is not. Thinking that (all) new rice runners have the DLC already (which I don't btw) is completely unrelated to the argument.

That is what I was saying, to a new runner it is the same deal. It is even worse for RotTR because they have to buy it to have competition, at least with option 3 in TR13 we have another category so nobody is "forced" to buy the DLC to have competition. I guess creating a new category is the best option then.

What about just having a variable for DLC Yes/No like some other games have ( https://www.speedrun.com/Dishonored#Any%25 )? That way if anyone wants to filter the list to show only runs without DLC they can, but without adding a whole different category?
