If you're going to speedrun 'Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu', then rolling needs to become your best friend. Useful in a variety of ways, this guide will outline them one by one.

Character differences: Simply put, Batman and Nightwing's rolls are useful, because they speed the characters up and cover much more distance. Robin and Batgirl's rolls aren't useful except dodging boss attacks that mandate a roll, and it's one of the main reasons why they can't keep up record pace with their burlier counterparts.

Evading: This is the default usage of the move. Whenever you feel like you're going to get mobbed by a big group, roll away. You'll save yourself time and health, and if you roll intelligently you can reposition for a counterattack in one swift motion.

For bosses, everyone but Scarecrow has attacks that can be dodged with rolling, and in most cases it's the only way to do so. As stated before, Robin/Batgirl have to time and space such rolls with a greater deal of precision compared to Batman/Nightwing, and it will cost you precious seconds unless performed 100% perfectly.

Interrupting: If you time your roll in-between the hits of any thug or miniboss, you can interrupt their attacks. This is generally more favorable than blocking because you won't take any chip damage and you can counterattack sooner. Borderline essential against late-game thugs with longer attack sequences.

Faster Movement/Approach: Batman/Nightwing have the privilege of their roll being a faster way to move than running, and it will save you a small margin of time. If you mash the roll button you will more or less move at maximum speed.

If you approach with roll, you can try to scoop up a dash attack bonus, though this is generally not something you should go for 24/7.
