Possible door fanfare skip

During my attempts today I managed to accidentally cause the following glitch entering the door to the lava frog area:

Notice the door fanfare doesn't play, and Toki Tori immediately enters the door. This saved about 3 seconds. I have literally no idea how this happened, but if either of you guys have any thoughts, this would be a tremendously useful time save. (As far as I know all I did was press up when I got to the door.)

I highlighted the entire run in question. Here's a link to the specific point where the skip happens:

United States

I've tried several different loading zone entrances, just not that one, yet. I've tried every combination of frame perfect chirping, stomping, directional inputs, multi directional inputs, etc. There's about 6 entrances between the start and to the left of the main town that can all be accessed and tested within like 3 minutes . The only working theory i have on that specific door, was you must have activated during a certain animation of the mole hill which negated the entrance cue, or something?

Some thoughts:

It seems that the "enter door"-action triggers twice in quick succession. First it marks the door as unlocked and plays the fanfare, which is then immediately interrupted by the second "enter door"-action, which causes the volume to fade down to zero. So the game probably failed to take control away from the player in time, letting you enter twice.

Something to note: you enter a bit to the right of the center. Maybe this is important.

Another thing to note: after entering a door, you usually want to mash a button (A on xbox, I assume it's B on Switch) to skip the map screen as soon as possible. The audio from the mic suggests that you start your mashing at the same time as the first "up"-input.

United States

Well, we always enter to the left/right of each door. I was actually just able to get this, and only at this specific entrance along this path. Once i pressed up to activate the door, I immediately hold down during the jump animation, or maybe the frame I land. This spot is dumb to test cause heading straight here it still takes around 10 mins to get to and you cant reset the door after entering. I'm wondering tho, if this is specific to doors that lead to main enclosed areas, mainly Volcano & Waterfall cave (and possibly the cave in main town area which is never used). Overworld pathway entrances I don't believe these work on since those are all I've been testing on up until I got here in a derust run. I'm gonna go test Waterfall cave in a bit.

Dang ... even hittin the HOME button and closing the game during the door fanfare, doesn't let you reset the door :(

EDIT ::: ok, so I could not get this if I just go straight to this entrance from a fresh game. And since the first time this was found was when you started using the Tiny frog portal (activating molehills BEFORE Lava) that may be what triggers this glitch to happen. Because I've tried these same button combinations messing around long before in my runs last year. Plus confirming I couldnt get it, now, if I don't visit the red jewel beforehand and go straight here. Again, just another working theory ...

Ok, so I just accidentally got like 6 in a row in my current run I submitted. All the way to waterfall cave, and inside. What was really crazy, I got the door that you activate while falling at the Dark Lava Cave exit. The trick, and easy with Pro controller, is to hit Up AND Down (analogue Up dpad Down or vice versa) the same frame when you normally press Up to activate the entrance. Least that's what I was doing, and it worked. Watch my run starting at the 5:40 mark up til the last door before Invisi, I believe I got them all in there

I've just confirmed that the trick works on PC. On the door in the area to the left of the beginning (which we normally don't use). I held analog up and tapped dpad down.

I haven't been able to do it while standing still (yet).

So far, only 2 gates I haven't been able to get the trick on. First one being the first gate you actually come to in the main Any% route (that leads to the grass growing 3 bird section). And the 2nd one, the gate just to the left of the main town cliff ( that leads to the Pre-Volcano cave area). Going to test a theory at some point, if you need to be standing to the right of those 2, or something. (^^ EDIT:: theory worked, gate left of main town, need to do it to the right side of the middle. gonna test first gate in any% route) (EDIT2:: BOOM! got it, using the right portion of the entrance. so that means all doors are skipable, now)

And you can do the trick standing still, I have tested that. May not work on all gates but I know I tested that at one point.

You guys are amazing. Fantastic job sorting it out. Grats on the new WR! (edit: also I'm embarrassed I didn't think of a simple explanation like up+down lol)

Does this work the same if you use keyboard controls? That might be a simpler way to pull it off than the analog + dpad thing. (Or it might not. I'm at work right now and would have to hold a controller in my hands to have a sense of which would be easier.)

Thanx :) And I'm not sure about keyboard ... but it's pretty much free with a controller. Use analogue for your forward movement, have other hand resting on Dpad "Up", then when you get to the loading trigger, mash Up on Dpad, and roll or yank your thumb to down on the analogue. There's rare instances where you need to chirp or do an action walking toward a gate entrance, so being able to switch to this hand layout isn't that troubling. In all honesty, I think the hardest one to do is the first one you found :D

I haven't gotten it with keyboard yet, only xbox360 controller on PC. I'll test some more... so far no luck on keyboard.

These 3 specific gates ( 1st Gate in Any&, Gate AFTER Large Frog, Gate West of main town) all need to be done using the opposite side of the entrance as their trigger that you normally walk a specific direction into. Meaning, walking right to the first any% gate, you need to activate the trigger on the left side of the center, same for the west town Gate. Vice Verse for Gate after Large Frog

NM all that lol. I just wasnt being precise on my analogue down input, I guess. apparently they can be done standing at any point of the loading trigger

I just tested with an input viewer to confirm my hypothesis from my stream tonight: it's consecutive frames. If you press down on the analog one frame and up on d-pad the next frame, you get the trick. Two frames doesn't cut it, same frame doesn't cut it. (Other combinations of up/down on analog/d-pad also work, as long as you use the two separate methods.) All the other stuff about door position and whether specific doors work or not is actually just red herrings. You just need good timing.

(edit) I also have not yet gotten it on keyboard. It's conceivable that it might not be possible on keyboard if the game interprets WASD controls as one single thing where you can only be holding either up or down at one time. However, I can't rule out the possibility that I'm just bad at consecutive-frame timing on the W/S and up/down keys.

Maybe I'm hittin an input a frame slower than the other, but I've just made it a habit to hit both on point at the same time and it works for me. And like waar, i use analogue down and Dpad up, way more consistent it seems. Also, which I'm sure you know by now, the controls will use the Dpad input as the "dominant" input, meaning if you're holding left/right on analogue then hold Up on Dpad, it'll only use the Dpad input and stand you in place. But not the same results if you use analogue to break the Dpad input.

Here's a small thing I noticed: normally, when you enter a new door and it shows the map, feathers slowly appear on the map, as Toki Tori walks to the next area. But if you do the glitch, the feathers are already there. It makes sense, because the game thinks you entered an already-unlocked door.

I just counted the door skips in Wesker's WR. He got 8 of the 12 available door skips for 24 seconds of time save. What have we wrought upon this game?
