Switch version

The obvious request, if Switch option can be added. And, if possible, to get Mod privileges for the Toki Tori 2+ boards. I plan on running the game for awhile and I do log onto the site daily.

Also, there are some differences in the current version on switch, so I'm not sure if there is a version that is mandatory to run on. Switch is v1.03 Noted Differences ... Can play warp song anywhere (except some caves).

A couple obstructions added/changed not noticed in the 2 leaderboard runs I've watched. ( the worst is Tiny Frog crab platform being 1/3rd the size but I've come up with a strat for dealing with it ).

Can select "Restart Level" and still have an ancient frog rescued ( mostly useful during Large Frog portion to skip the warp screen and 2 gate entrances).

Nothing else too major but just wanted to point them out because I do plan on trying any% and eventually routing the 99% run and want to make sure I'm not wasting my time with the Switch version.

Can select "Restart Level" and still have an ancient frog rescued Nice find! It works on PC as well. It also means we can avoid the "warp point activation cutscene" by putting a portal further in an earlier section.

I've watched your first two runs. Some thoughts:

  1. The timing with the lava frog doesn't have to be tight, if you lure the thin crab block to the right after redirecting the lava flow. In my PB I just forgot to do that.
  2. Berrybugs stop moving when you whistle, making timing easier.
  3. After going through the Lava Frog's wormhole, did you need to walk left? I know visiting that area activates a lot of molehills, but I don't know where the trigger is exactly.

Wow. Thanx for the tips, will definitely work on that. I've watched your WR run a few times to get the routing down, that Lava frog honker bug skip strat is GOLDEN. I'll keep in mind on the other platform during the lava flow. And cool to know the restart level works on PC, too, wasn't sure if it was an option there.

If you mean walking left, during the Jewel section afer Lava Frog, I think I have to walk past the portal activation or the warp song won't work til that point. I'm not sure if that's what you're referring to.

I wassssssss going to replay my WiiU version to test and see if it was closer to the PC version, but it took like3-4 minutes from booting up the WiiU to the game and I forgot how atrocious the wiiU UI was, and bailed out. lol

Thanks! I also saw some new stuff from your run. Popping the frog's bubble (left of giant ancient frog) while he's floating up, and not resurfacing at some underwater section.

If you mean walking left, during the Jewel section afer Lava Frog, I think I have to walk past the portal activation or the warp song won't work til that point Makes sense. On PC you need to walk even further, wasting a lot of time. It is possible to skip but then you don't get those molehills (hence the "detour" category).

I have done one 99% run at some point, (~3:30) but didn't save the recording because I was planning to improve it, but never did. I'm looking into it again.

Nice, at least I feel like I'm contributing somewhat. I'm obviously basing the route from your run, but I will experiment and test with some new stuff along the way.

About the PC warp calls, from what I see, you need to be close to a checkpoint for it to work?

Another very small timesaver, is popping the frog bubble once you're within the portal trigger ( the frog and portals just before the "Silhouette Cave?" area). you'll instantly drop out the portal on the other side rather than have to wait and float above and away from the portal.

I got most from Vulajin's run but added some strats as well.

Yes, the checkpoints have a eagle icon on them, signifying that the warp song works there. In caves the eagle is crossed off.

I knew of the bubble popping strat, but I stopped using it after losing runs due to popping too soon or too late (in which case you go through the portal again). The run is still far from optimal.

While messing around found out Reset Level also lets you keep tokens collected. Gonna add some nice level warps for 99%. Already found a few useful spots for it, tho my routing is just me making an ideal path on the fly

Im not sure on what confirmation for 99% thats required. My plans for a test route is to end at the invisible frog since theres a token statue there. Therefore revealing the unlocked door while right behind is the final frog cutscene. Like i said a route in theory

That changes things! I guess you're thinking of that one token to the far left of the invisible frog which you can only get while falling off the level. Resetting in mid-air after getting it could be nice.

My idea was to get the "You Maniacs! You blew it up!" achievement ("discover the statue of tokity"), because it is an organic reason to get all frogs and the golden wings. But just collecting all tokens with or without dropping them off (and then the last frog) is fine too. Or adding the tokidex requirement to get true 100%. What do you prefer? As for confirmation, you hear a special sound after collecting the last token.

By the way, the reason we did the upside-down frog in any% last was because its portal doesn't have a checkpoint nearby, so we can't easily warp. On the Switch you can do tiny frog last if you want. Or do tiny frog first, go through its portal to activate the molehills, then get invisible and upside-down, and then get huge and lava. It shouldn't matter for time.

United States

Ya, truthfully ... there's really no "wrong route" you can take given the warp points provided and ways areas are interconnected for 99/100%. I've already changed things at least a dozen times while venturing out and testing ideal ways to warp and which gates to use optimally. Found an interesting path that bypasses that slow light bug puzzle ( the secret cave down the waterfall just before the water cave entrance ) and can just 'reset level' to get back out avoiding the puzzle altogether Sadly, there's several luck based puzzles throughout so gonna be madness in some parts xD.

And, ok, I understand about the upside-down frog warp situation. I'll keep that in mind. Was just trying to come up with an ideal confirmation for 99% for quick review ... even though its not like its a popular category so we can just wing it.

I can't recall, are the 5 frogs required for obtaining the wings, or does it only require all tokens? If both are required then getting the wings could be ideal. And doing the achievement could work, too. Just on Switch I have to go into the system settings and delete the save file for TT2 to reset achievements each time, which isn't that big a deal.

Hm, in that dark cave with the light bug you mention, there is a mask to the far left with a collectible behind it, so you still need to do the whole light bug thing... unless they changed it in the Switch version.

Nothing has been defined, except what FilipeTales just put into a textbox one day. Feel free to ask for mod status so you can change things around. (idk exactly how this site works though)

The door to the wings opens as soon as you deposit all the collectibles in the 4 statues, so in theory you can get everything without collecting a single frog. (Nice meme category: "new game plus", where you start out with the wings and all warp points activated, and you just need to get to the 5 frogs as quickly as possible :p)

United States

Dang, you're right about the light bug puzzle. Kind of the frustrating part with routing and not able to reset tokens in an area you've already collected everything and testing from a different access. I guess good thing is I can keep my original route for that cave :P Plus when trying to find optimal ways to do areas you forget about the obvious tokens in plain site lol. Glad someone is around to double check me :D

Now I almost want to reroute Invisible Frog as early as possible cause those tokens N-East of the portal are frustrating to get in a consistent timeframe setup xD

Netherlands

I tried to use the invisible frog for those tokens, by making him fat on the thin crab platform and then quickly moving the platform past the portal. That caused a weird visual glitch: the portal activated but the sparkles remained visible. It wouldn't be a viable strat anyway, because there is no way to turn him around after making him spit the bubble. And after getting those tokens, you have to reset/jump down so there is no way to get the frog into the portal. You really need a second frog for those tokens.

United States

I feel so dumb. When you're trying to do things fast or differently, you forget the simplest solutions. I've 100%'d the game several time, but forgot all about just using the sleeping bug for the tokens northeast if invisi froggy xD. Gonna route in invisible frog much sooner, and upside-frog for last, does seem more ideal.

I did another test of that waterfall secret cave from back exit, unfortunately cant get the tokens at the bottom without getting grabbed from the birds above. But i did get practice on the puzzle and it's pretty free now, somewhat. (though i did run into a glitch where one of the frogs got stuck in place and another would not react to my whistle for turning around to get killed by the bats).

Also, ran into a weird frog bubble 'glitch', where a bubbled frog would land and pop and become unresponsive. Kept frustrating me and wouldn't stop happening in this one spot. Then a viewer pointed out a tiny dark corner on the ledge and sure enough it was causing the frog to burst, never ran into that, casually.

Netherlands

My strat is to put the light bug on the crab, and leave a one-tile gap so it doesn't walk off, but the frog can still get to it because he's two tiles wide. Then when the frog is full, transport a new light bug to the right and then make the frog eat it.

I've been able to get those tokens under the waterfall from that side.

I've seen those glitches before. I've also seen a frog stuck in a falling state (happens in a puzzle that leads to the western statue, the one with the two small green poles). The frog that didn't turn around at the bats was not glitched. They don't turn around when in a bubble and later on you stood at the same side he was facing.

Another glitch I encountered: if you aggro a lizard while he's going into a portal, he also sometimes get stuck in aggro state as well.

They dramatically simplified the "two frogs falling through portals" puzzle by adding the (vertical) ladder to the right of the puddle. On PC you have to use the crab to disable one of the portals to move the right frog to the left and use him to get a berry to the puddle and then get yourself back to the puddle.

United States

"I've been able to get those tokens under the waterfall from that side" ... I'll have to work on that, then. I was trying to stomp stun the bird; as well as, barely graze the token hitbox and hurry back left. [ EDIT:: ok, figured it out]

About them "simplifying" some puzzles .. agreed. Ya, I remember that part being way more complicated originally. I remember on the original release for WiiU, there were crazier obstacles you had to get past, as well. Like the 2 frogs I mentioned one popping its bubble getting stuck in a corner shadow; there used to be tokens on the very high cliff to the left of that area when entering from the ladder, requiring all 4 frogs to be used.

And, wow, I need to investigate and test stuff more thoroughly ... I seriously never even noticed you can't whistle 'alert' anything while in a bubble. Makes sense why, just never caught on to the fact xD

there used to be tokens on the very high cliff to the left of that area when entering from the ladder, requiring all 4 frogs to be used. Ah, I never looked up what they changed in the + version.

In the area with all the portals and bubbles, we can skip the berrybug by using level reset after collecting the 3 tokens. (In order not to have to do the 2frogs1block puzzle again, fly to the warp point after activating it, so it becomes the reset point.) There is also a molehill that gets you right back to the bubble area. It is likely that it saves time overall, even though we still redo a lot.

United States

Nice call, seems legit. Resetting and having to re-do those bottom 3 portal crabs is not a big deal considering you'd have to do it several times while getting the block to the bug. Sadly, tho, on Switch I can just whistle to the warp point from that deadend spot. Just tested around, and it even makes the crab block to portal token much simpler, just one whistle pull and one stomp setup; without having to worry about getting an ideal setup for the bug afterwards.

Another decent reset spot is in the cave in Town, after you get the tokens after lighting bugs at the bottom just reset back to start of the cave where you can whistle out, convenient checkpoint spot for PC as well sitting there as you land (avoiding the walk down to bottom and beach area loading, etc.) Other areas I have some notes for.

Also, check this out ...

ya, it's a little risky but it's the start of any% so missing and resetting wouldn't be too big an issue. And I've gotten it somewhat consistently. Scratch that, found the sweet spot. Once top bird starts its last move far right as it will go, walk to center of ladder, take one step left and stomp, then proceed. Only thing that can screw it up is other 2 birds

Nice; I got it first try. But only once. I'm going to need some practice.

United States

Unfortunately there's no recorded run to base my routing off of, so I don't even know any strats other than basic knowledge and some stuff in any% that can carry over to 99%. But going off what you mentioned about Level Resetting for the tokens in this area, I accidentally got this clutch crab pull off the edge ( which avoids having to go all the way to the other side to stomp the crab block off, then have to pull it to the portal). And it sets up a nice escape route to immediately bubble out to the final area. around the 35 second mark ...

I got it accidentally and went to record. On the final checkpoint setup there is an edit cause it took me a minute or so to replicate what I did. The setup is pretty easy, using the second bubble as a visual cue before it touches the 3rd portal's "beam line" just hop off and do the chirps to alert the crab ... then float up just to the top corner of the crab block and spam chirps to yank him off. If this is already a known strat then forgive me ....

Again: nice! I see that you semi-wake-up the crab before getting in the bubble, so he's already "alert" when you pop and start whistling again. There are some other places in the run where a crab can't see you yet, but he can already hear you, and whistling early makes him more responsive.

In the 2frogs1block strat, you can save a bit of time by not pulling the crab all the way to the right at first. (The more to the left the crab is positioned, the earlier the frog turns around.)

I also think that on Switch, getting into the tiny frog's wormhole is faster than getting into the lava frog's wormhole; in the lava frog's case, you stomp twice to get up to the ladder, but it makes the frog croak, slowing him down. Shouldn't matter that much though, it's just one of those small optimizations.
