Does anyone know a consistent setup for dumpster clips? I keep being booted out of the wall by the collision

Netherlands

which spot?

Canada

I was just fooling around with it in the spot when Joel first starts escorting Ellie. He has to move a dumpster to the stairs so they can jump up. I failed it on various walls and I caught a video of Thrillness that claimed it was a fairly universal thing. Just wondering if there are any consistent setups or tips

Netherlands

It is quite consistent, I don't know exactly how it is done. Bc we don't use it (there's no checkpoint later on to get a restart or any advantage). When skipping the hotel, we do use one of the pallets to get out of bounds, which is consistent.

Canada

Did they patch this game recently? I can't even get off the ledge to do downtown skip anymore, weird.

North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

They patched the game recently but downtown skip still works. Dumbster OOB should also still work.

TheThrillness: Nice find, you can actually do this anywhere there is a real enemy and a loading trigger behind a wall.

Post by Yoranto: in the last days I tried out some new glitches and I found out that I can go OOB everywhere in the water where you can go in with stairs or sth like this (just don't jump into the water). But now we found out that Joel can go OOB everywhere, where he normally stops. Look at this video I think it's interesting. What do you think?

I found a new strat to go OOB. It works when you can crouch down to the water. It works on some places but until now it doesn't help much because on those places you can also go OOB with the pallets, but I just found this 2 days ago so we will test this. I'm not an expert on glitches etc. so we will see. The thing is that Joel runs automatically. While switching in the inventory I don't have to press L3 for walking, Joel does everything automatically I just switch in the inventory so I don't press some special buttons. This allows us to walk backwards but look forward (while turning the light on, which is weird because normally the light has an "auto-aim"-function). You can sprint while being in listening mode and the important thing for these OOB's is that you can crouch under the water instead of swimming directly.

Here are some OOBs I found with this glitch:

TheThrillness: You might be able to skip the Capitol Building with this although I have no idea if you can do it there. Like when you drop down from the dumpster, clip down into that water and then you can swim to the Bills' Town cutscene. Matt swam up from the ending area back to capitol so we know it's linked.

Mattmatt10111: u can shimmy off any ledge you can walk off like that, Its in this video, skip to that section

*Post by Yoranto[i] a few minutes ago I just found a small timesaver. It saves ~4sec. It's not the biggest find but 4 seconds are better than nothing, I think :P and maybe one day 4 seconds are relevant for a run. BTW I think there are some more small timesavers like this. If I find another one I will post it here in this thread, too.

I found a new one with Ellie in winter! It saves ~7 seconds. haha I can remember how often I died there because Ellie was too slow and they shot me :D

This here on Bus Depot saves ~4 seconds (3-4).

Here is another one. Saves ~5 seconds.

[i]Post by Yoranto* This happened to me in my practice. I think it's 100% random so there's almost no chance to replicate this for Any% runs (btw - would this be Any%? I mean, you 'just' die). If this would be consistent it would save around 10 seconds. Does somebody know other places where this could also work?

_

Post by AntohonyCaliber: Mattmatt10111 found this one. David still moves at his normal pace. We just push him out of the way first. Just wanna confirm this is allowed.

Mattmatt10111 response: Heres the new consistent way to do it, thoughts?

Post by Yoranto: Should this be allowed in glitchless? It's another "getting in front of"-trick. Okay this just saves 1 second and you're not really in front of Ellie, you're more IN Ellie.

Following posts are all by Soviet_Jedi Sup, guys! Found a way to drop any gun/throwable item in the game. Currently the only use I have found for this trick is at Bill's town, where you can later pick up the item you dropped, essentially duplicating any item you need (in the video I duplicate an extra molotov, so you end up with 3 instead of 2) but perhaps this trick can be used elsewhere too, since it has a tendency to interact with the game in weird ways (I made Tess go bald by dropping the 9mm gun and progressing to the next chapter). HOW TO: Ok, so first, you have to have a melee weapon (I think any will do, but it's easiest with the bat IMO) with 1 or 2 bars of use left. Equip the item you wish to drop (or highlight it at the very least) BEFORE you break the weapon and hit an enemy with it (the bat I mean in this case). When it breaks, immediately hit L2 (or L1) and before the reticle appears, hit R2 (or R1) and quickly cancel the animation with square. It does take some practise and some getting used to because you have to develop a feel for it, but it is very possible - anyone with a ps4 and a copy of TLoU can do it. If done correctly, you will drop the item you had previously equipped with however many bullets you had loaded in the chamber of the gun (If you have 13 revolver bullets fro example and you have 4 loaded into the gun, you will drop the revolver with 4 bullets). The same principle applies to dying before you respawn at Bill's town - in the video I have the shotgun equpiied with 4 bullets loaded in the chamber and I later come back to pick it up, essentially duplicating 3 items in total: the nail bomb, the molotov and the shotgun.

Getting passed Bill: I know MattMatt uses a molotov to stun Bill for a second and lock him in place (since friendly AI doesn't walk over fire) to get past him, which saves a few seconds but wastes a molotov; but I've found a slightly slower method that lets you get past Bill without using one (might be more useful on grounded runs). As far as I know nobody uses this trick which makes me believe nobody has found it yet until now... How to: There's 2 spots Bill will wait for you - the first checkpoint is at the top of the stairs (this is scripted - Bill will automatically start moving once you walk up the stairs) and the other checkpoint is right next to the doorway. If you walk towards Bill and jump over the ledge and wait a second (you have to time this right) Bill will do a 180° turn when he gets to the 2nd checkpoint and not move until you have caught up. As he's getting into position, you want to start running again and place yourself between Bill and the doorway - you don't need to mash any buttons, just hold down 'run' and try to aim running more towards Bill than the doorway - your objective is to get between the two. If done correctly, Bill will move to the side. This is somewhat RNG based since 95% of the time Bill will walk towards the 2nd checkpoint while other times he might jog a little. Ive had godlike RNG as well where Bill gets out of the way almost instanty when you start running again after having climbed over the ledge.

Get past glasses guy: Sup, my dudes. Found a way to get past glasses guy in the hallway every. single. time. (not entirely sure if this method has been discovered or used in the past but after watching a few veterans speedrun this game and fail this trick makes me believe people "wing it" instead of relying on a specific technique). Here's a 10 minute video of me getting past him without failing once. If you take a closer look, you'll notice glasses guy for whatever reason stops dead in his tracks for a second or two every time you take this exact path. The only way you can trigger this is by following him instead of trying to overtake him by following Tess. Notice how I stay in the left "lane" and step on the exact same tiles glasses guy steps on. Well.. it's not obligatory that you step on the same exact tiles he does - I stay 1 or 2 inches to the right and after I've turned right, I go back to my left lane. The best part about this strat is that glasses guy will make room for you so you don't have to worry about the fire extuinguisher blocking you from overtaking him.

After doing some research on other games such as Resident Evil that have random ammo drops and reading up on what speedrunners of said games have discovered I decided to test out if the same theories apply to TLoU. What I've discovered is that 1st of all - the system is in place to reduce ammo drops when you've more than enough - not to increase the drop rate when you have too little. 2nd: the game looks at your total ammo, not just the weapon that you have little to no ammo for (this includes pistol ammo). In this thread I'm going to use the high school fight as an example since on grounded it can halt runs to a screeching stop if you get bad RNG and end up with no extra shotgun ammo for carpush and/or the bloater fight.

Before I get to the meat and mashed potatoes of this "strat" let me first say that if you have 3 or more shotgun shells, the drop rate will always be 0%. I've never gotten a single shell with 3 already in my possession from a runner and I've spent the last 2 days grinding the same section over and over. The only way you can get an extra shell is if you shoot a runner, which will reduce your shotgun ammo from 3 to 2 but it may result in a drop.

If you're on a glitchless grounded run, you're going to have somewhere around 16 revolver bullets in this section. After doing this section non-stop for 2 days, I've discovered that if you conserve both your revolver ammo and shotgun ammo (meaning you only execute enemies with your bat/fists) the drop rate will be around 25%. This is because the game knows you have more than enough revolver bullets for this section and the system is encouraging you to use up revolver ammo, which explains the lack of shotgun ammo drops.

However, if you get rid of the revolver, your ammo modifier changes and because of that your drop rate increases from a mere 25% to 46.5% (50% is more plausible or maybe it's because I like round numbers more). This is because you no longer have any pistol ammo and all you have is your shotgun, which tricks the game into thinking you have practically no resources for this fight, so it forces the drop rate to go up. I've posted 3 videos below, all using the same approach:Ideally you want to kill the first 2 runners with the bat (this is so that you're left with 3 bars or less on the bat) and then have the bat break on the 3rd runner (doesn't matter which one - I prefer to use this path, you can come up with your own). After the bat breaks, wait ~0,5 seconds and press the aim button - don't spam it, instead - hold it. From this point on, your drop % will be increased (unless you pick back up the revolver). What's more interesting is that 80% of the time the same runner you executed after having dropped the revolver will drop 3 shotgun shells instead of the traditional 1. The other 19% of the time one of the last remaining runners will drop 3 shells.

I don't think this is a glitch since all you're doing is managing ammunition in your inventory, but that's just my opinion. You can achieve the same results by emptying all of your pistol ammo the traditional way. The weapon drop can happen by accident in both casual playthroughs and speedruns since the requirements are too trivial - if a melee weapon breaks you will naturally want to resort to using a firearm and all you have to do is hit aim and fire.

Some pro tips:

  1. Don't go into this section with 3 or more shotgun shells.
  2. Don't be afraid to use the shotgun if you have to before you get a chance to drop the revolver - I've posted 3 different videos of me using the same strat but a little bit differently each time - conserving ammo, using the shotgun before I break the bat etc.

Second post by Soviet_Jedi Ok so I have to apologise for misleading people and potentially having wasted people's time and sanity - turns out there's a much easier and simpler way of getting rid of the revolver. When I first discovered this phenomenon of being able to drop your weapon, I did it in an assenine way: Hit aim, square, aim, fire and then square again. Fuck that - here's how to do it:

#1: after the weapon breaks, do not stand still. Be walking forward, backwards, sideways - it doesn't matter but don't be stationary. #2: just hit aim. That's it. You have to time it tho. If you do it tok early or too late, Joel will simply aim with the weapon. You don't have to spam the aim button, you can just hold it. Here's a video of me doing it so you can see exactly what I press and when; hope it helps you out :/ ps: sorry ant

Response by Yoranto: You can also just throw a brick/bottle to stun the enemie, then kill him with melee weapon and while doing this just press the dpad to the right

I've managed to skip a scene in the slums which might help save a good few valuable seconds but I can't seem to get a consistent method of doing this. Hopefully Ant you can work a way of getting this to work all the time and help you smash another WR

I managed to do that too once. Never been able to replicate it

Even if we got it consistent, there is no way this would be allowed in glitchless lol

Nice. I think you can even save 15 more seconds if you go OOB with the weapon switch instead of the pallet.

New Game runs must use default skins from now on!

As of 30th November 2023, New Game runs for The Last of Us/The Last of Us: Remastered must use default skins and are not allowed to have activated costum skins/backpacks/etc.

We found out that costum skins potentially change the appearances of soundglitches, which also influences the loadtimes.
