Guide to any% / glitchless

So, after a review of the current glitches and tricks in the game me, Anthony, Mattmatt10111 and Yoranto (all moderators) have decided to get a few things clear for future runs.

We are aware of that a lot of tricks in The Last of Us aren't just black and white, but they can be stated in a more gray area. For the sake of not creating a new category, but to keep up with the current categories, down below you can find all skips, glitches and tricks and in which category they belong.

Any %: These tricks are NOT allowed in the glitchless category, but are in the any% category. • Major glitches i.e. OoB glitches - Check out The Thrillness' Skips for Any%-guide (click here)

• D-Pad Trick: This will allow you to keep up speed in certain sections of the game where you normally shouldn't be having such speed. [video coming soon]

• Downtown Jump: This is a small OoB glitch which you can use in Any%, but probably won't, because there is a bigger OoB skip which will skip the whole building in Downtown. There are multiple ways there to jump down, all considered invalid, because you're not supposed to jump through an invisible wall. However, one small jump is allowed in the glitchless category (for more info check the video or read down below in the glitchless section).

• Shiv Glitch: By repicking up a modded leadpipe, you are able to obtain a few more supplies to craft shifts. If you are using this, it is only allowed in any%.

• Bill's Town Plank Skip: A small skip which allows you to move forward a bit quicker, without having to wait for Ellie. Normally you need to wait for her to cross the plank, with this trick, you teleport up a ledge and can grab the plank immediately.

• Outskirts Skip:

Glitchless: The following list contains tricks that are allowed in the glitchless category and an explanation on why.

• Getting pushed by Tommy (or anyone): In the Prologue, if you run in a certain line in the area, Tommy will push you forward. He runs quicker than Joel and advantage may be taken of that. Make sure to balance yourself on that line. This is making use of one of the games mechanics. In the second chapter, just after the Fireflies attack the city, you run into a building. Heal yourself and start walking, you can get in front of the dude that Tess is talking to, occasionally he will give you a boost (VIDEO).

• Crouch Launch: This is a small trick which will boost you forward off of a ledge. It can be done a few times in the game. Due to a high risk of doing this launch by accident, it is allowed.

• Downtown Jump: So, most of the jumps in downtown (by tapping the X-button) aren't allowed in glitchless, there's a small jump in there which is considered "gray" and allowed in glitchless. For more, check the video in the any% segment above.

• Train Station Despawn: Technically this is not a despawn. What happens is that the last clicker in the train station area (just after you grab your first molotov cocktail), will not spawn in when you get alerted before crossing half way of the area. If you do not get alerted before that point i.e. line in the area, it will spawn in.

• Financial District Cart Jump: We used to think this was a glitch. How would you ever be able to jump that far onto the refrigerator? We found out that the radius to jump on the fridge is much wider than the regular jumps. If you push the cart more back, you are still able to make the jump onto the fridge. That's why you are allowed to use the small platform on the left to get on the refrigerator.

• Car Push Despawn: Again, this is not a despawn, two runners will not spawn in if you shoot the first clicker quick enough. They are technically never there. Hence, it is allowed.

• Ladder Jump (before Bill's Trap): By aiming you can go down ladders a bit quicker, just a little trick to get some more momentum in the game. You can actually go down the ladder and land behind the stringed up booby trap.

• Henry Launch: On two spots in the game where Henry and his little brother are joining you, you are going to fast for him to keep up. However you are triggering two animations at certain points. This will launch him forward. Henry needs to do this animation, so it seems to be part of the games programming. This one is allowed because of that.

• Surpassing David: This works because while you are aiming, AI can pass through you. This allows you to time a knife stab as David opens the door to get ahead of him far enough and have a followup sprint. This was a trick which really seemed to be in that gray area we mentioned. We are allowing this because it doesn't seem like something to major to disallow.

• Restart Encounter: You are allowed to use "Restart Encounter" from the pause menu. Any advantage you get from this is allowed. For example: in the high school section, you are able to re-obtain any used items.

BANNED: • Dying at the Robert Scene: This can be a tricky one, because there isn't a consistent way (yet?) to get this regularly. It skips a dialogue which Joel and Tess are having with Robert. Because it gives an unfair advantage to the player getting it done by accident, it is not allowed in any category.

New Game runs must use default skins from now on!

As of 30th November 2023, New Game runs for The Last of Us/The Last of Us: Remastered must use default skins and are not allowed to have activated costum skins/backpacks/etc.

We found out that costum skins potentially change the appearances of soundglitches, which also influences the loadtimes.
