Hey there I'm estragon and of course I'm from Germany. Terranigma was my favourite game as a child and when I thought about speedrunning, this was the point for me to start.

Now I have started grinding birds. I have a good savegame on lvl 13, but I just can't get the kill on the levelup without standing above ground. Is it really that hard or is it maybe a known issue of the German PAL version?

I'm not sure what your issue is, but in case you don't know, the level up bird requires a special setup. Watch top players' runs for details, but the basic idea is to deplete the bird's HP (it has 80 HP total) until it is low enough so you can finish him off with a jump attack. You want to kill the bird as you are falling down from the cliff. It is tricky to do and requires some practice though. However, if you are considering running this game, you might want to switch to the Japanese version. PAL is MUCH slower in the long run, so maybe you want to get the practice in the right version as soon as possible ;)

Thank you for the fast answer. I know the levelup bird requires a special setup. My problem is that the jump attack never hits the bird. I managed to do it with a grind, but he needs to land in a precise position to do that.

However I've started practicing the Japanese version and will do some tower runs to get better in the game.

if you are doing the setups with a spin attack, the only idea I have in mind without seeing you play might be you are using the spin attack and look the left while the bird is not on the lowest dive position. the bird has 2 different heights of diving. looking to the left during the spin attack will only hit him, if he's on the lowest dive position. doing a spin upwards will always hit him though (hold left,jump, up+attack). killing him with a slider also only works if he's on the lowest spot.

Hi there I´m Da_Rayz and iam from Germany too

I wanted to start the Speedrunning with Diablo2, but this game have a high rng factor (radomised maps) and this takes a lot of time to get a perfect run. After i found my old and still working PAL Snes with Terranigma, Gaia, SOM and SOE in a box at the attic and watching the 20th anniversery run of my favourite game at my childhood on you tube, i started with terranigma. I heard the Japanese Version is one hour faster than the PAL-Version, so i played it on an emulator. I hope to have a better internet to stream next year, actually i upload my videos and a 6 GB File need 12 hours.

How about adding a PAL-Version category to the leaderboards?

Hi Da_Rayz, glad you decided to start out with Terranigma!

The game is already pretty long and PAL is basically the same with less lag but a much longer playtime. Speedrunning will always take the fastest version of the game. Unless a larger amount of people consider running PAL actively, we cannot open a PAL leaderboard yet.
