There is currently a rule that states:
The Remote Robot must not move through solid ground, walls or ceilings, except when being recalled.
I have found that you can trigger the buttons in Coco Island and the Battle Fortress using the remote robot while it is being recalled. So if the robot is being recalled and it is hitting a button on the way, by the current definition this is allowed in glitchless. Can I have some clarification, perhaps the rule needs to explicitly state if the remote robot is allowed to hit the button while being recalled or not?
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. The ruleset was based on the glitches the mod team knew at the time, and this isn't something we were aware of so we tried to write it in a way that would cover any future robot glitches - clearly this one has slipped through!
Do you have further details on how to trigger it (ideally with a video)?
I've been watching the glitch runs and those are clearly OoB exploits and this trick isn't. I made a quick video of the two places it can be used:
I know that you can damage boost on Cavern Island to fall through water that usually pushes you up. That uses the game mechanics in an unintended way. Do you think this is comparable to the damage boost or is this a straight up glitch?
Thanks for the video!
I'll be trying to replicate it later on but quick question as I'm currently at work: Do you need to press anything while recalling, or is it just triggered automatically as soon as the recalling robot and switch hitboxes collide?
My initial reaction is that this is very much an exploit in a similar vein to infinite flight and water damage boosting and therefore I'm currently in favour of allowing it, I should have a definitive answer for you once I'm able to confirm, discuss with the other mods and replicate. Should have a concrete answer by the end of the day 💜 Congrats on finding this!
I can now confirm that this trick is allowed in glitchless. I've added clarification to the rules text to allow "- Having the robot activate switches while in the process of recalling".
Congrats again on your find, it looks like I need to find time to come out of retirement soon and get back to going for the sub 40! :D Looking forward to any runs you submit.
