Loads being taken out makes it more fair for console runners and lets them get higher on the leaderboard, but, having runners take out all loading times by themselves each time they would like to submit is very tedious. In games like Sonic Adventure 2, the taking out of loads is easy because at the end of a stage the time for that stage shows, and they just add them up. Here it makes no sense and I don't see why you would want runners to spend time doing that. even if you say it makes it better for console runners, thing is, the game costs basically nothing on steam and anyone even with a laptop can run it properly.
Didn't want to come across as a jerk, I just think it would be a lot easier to just have a timer running from start to finish, and yes, I have been thinking about running this game
I do know that taking out loads from your run can be really annoying, but it is a necessary evil unfortunately. Even if we did decide to go by real time and without loading, it just become "who has the fastest PC" competition.
Just by looking at the current leaderboards for the Any%with Bonuses category:
Matumbro = 1:17 Load Time StingerPA = 2:27 Load Time Jimmeh = 1:53 Load Time
These 3 runners are on PC, look the difference between StingerPA and Matumbro. One minute and ten seconds loading time difference is huge. Removing loading is not only fair for console runners but for PC as well.
I do apologize for anyone that would have been interested in joining the Battlefront 2 speed run community and did not just because of that reason and I hope I do not come across as "that one guy that is just trying to defend his run" because I am currently the only console runner that post his run on the leaderboard.
If you wish, I could help you out with removing the loading of your run. Just post your run on youtube or twitch and I will check it out when I got time. :)
I was expecting a harsh response telling me it will stay how it is and I should go and leave xD. Thanks for taking your time to explain everything, I bought the game on a steam sale for just over 2 euro (I said it was cheap) and felt like I could make it a fun game to run. I just finished my playthrough and thought of adding my own strats and what not to see how my runs turn out. I might look into running Any% No Bonuses and see how I feel about different categories
That is awesome, it would cool to have more people doing runs and strategies research.
The game is pretty RNG based so that makes it hard to optimize it (espacially the last few missions that can be pretty rough). But that is also what makes it fun for me, trying to deal with what the game throws at you. A jedi is in your way where he is not supposed to be, do you play it safe and kill him? or you try to run past him to save 2 seconds? The choice is yours. xD

The reason I like Any% No Bonuses is because of the classes and their weapons and abilities , some classes have different running speeds, the ability to hover above ground and things like that. I'm thinking that if you know when and where to use each class the run could go a lot faster. I'm currently messing around using different classes, and taking intentional deaths (from the menu) to respawn near a diferent checkpoint and change class since I got the opportunity. I thought the Jedi would be OP but realistically Yoda only walked the space of 10 metres and was 2 shoted by a missile
We do use a decent amount of different classes in our any%with bonuses current strats. A lot of scout trooper (fastest regular unit for walking/running), heavy trooper for Felucia and some people prefer storm trooper for some of the later missions just to name a few examples.
Yoda sucks because he can not deal with ennemies far away from him and his normal combo attack is not great. But his mouvement speed is really fast so that makes him worth it in the speed run.
My Any% No Bonuses is really awful and just begging to be beaten, I only done one attempt of it. I do not like that category personally. Get yourself ready to die a lot to random. So yeah go for it, I would like to see if you or anyone else can beat it. :)
Just as a note, be sure to start from a fresh file everytime you start a speed run attempt.
From a new profile with 0 medals earned. Even if your profile only has 2 endurance medals, it would technically be considered as Any%with bonuses.
You can start the timer at the same time you press "Start Mission"on the Mygeeto mission screen or as soon the loading screen for Mygeeto is done. It is up to you.
Hey I'm a bit late to the party, but what is the best way to take out the loads? Would I have to use YouTube to clip each level, or go back through the video and mark the times down? I did a Any% bonus run and would love to submit it.
What I like to do is to use a video editing software and cut out every loading of my run. I basicly create a video with all the missions together and then it gives me the time without loads.
You could also rewatch your run and pause the timer when the loading occurs, but that is a bit less accurate.
To time a level, you must time from when the black screen appears to when you press "Yes" on the "Quit" option.

I just take Windows Movie Maker to time these runs. Not a great software when it comes to actual video editing since it is heavily limited in options, but it is pretty acurate so it works fine for this purpose.
Another thing to look into for load times, on pc version at least, is that if anyone knows how to make an autosplitter or knows anyone who can make an autosplitter for swbf2 that would be great, would save time from video editing altogether. (if only i did IT at school :/)
