Happy with both suggestions. If there's any variations with load ins we should eliminate that so we have a fair playing field for everyone, so this looks all good my side.
This could come down to the 'driver' selection in the Graphics portion of the AGS settings. We've been able to match the faster 2.7 loads when it's set to 'Software renderer'. Here's a screengrab of the settings I ran my last submission on: https://imgur.com/jrE6ZyX
Hope that helps!
So some good news: I have been able to get BJPI1 up and running on 3.5! This is not at all clear in any sort of documentation but it's actually not hard to do. I'll do a bit more testing with your submissions of case 1+2 to just verify a few more things, but I am thinking we've evened the board up finally based on a couple quick half-handed runs of case 1.
Couple action points my side so it's visible:
- I will make another data field for submissions to mark what engine it was run on, that way it can be followed
- I will make a guide for how to get 3.5 (or any version, really) set up on Windows so that new folks can run on the fastest version.
So I've managed to get another .1 second back on most walks by doing some more CFG changes to the below. Getting closer!
Also- I've added Mac and Linux as platforms so that can be tracked in the meantime.
[graphics] driver=software filter=stdscale game_scale_win=3 render_at_screenres=0 screen_def=scaling vsync=1 [misc] screenres=1 windowed=1 refresh=0 gfxfilter=None [sound] digiid=-1 midiid=-1 digiindx=0 midiindx=0 digiwinindx=0 digiwin=1096302880 midiwinindx=0 midiwin=-1
Thanks for your research and work here, mikethev!
I have finally found some time and my game won't even start up with your exact settings, unfortunately. I am using the AGS version that was pre-packed with BJPI1, which is v2.72.908. I think you might be right in that each version will run a bit different. I'm not entirely sure how to get the game to run in 3.5.0, which is the latest version.
I did, however, manage to get it running by editing the CFG to match yours, then opening the winsetup and hitting save+run. This moves the settings missing from mine to either [misc] or [sound] depending on the setting. You can see my settings pasted below. I did some basic timings in the Visitor Center and seem to lose about .5 seconds on Ben heading to the restroom and .5 on clerk's movement to the same destination running against your 4:58. Kind of a bummer.
I'm not sure how to run the game on any other version of AGS, so I'm not sure how to make my version any faster. That is also quite interesting that OSE's run was different that mine as well. Hopefully we can find a way to make everything on a level playing field.
[misc] screenres=1 windowed=1 refresh=0 gfxfilter=None driver=software filter=stdscale render_at_screenres=0 screen_def=scaling vsync=1 [sound] digiid=-1 midiid=-1 digiindx=0 midiindx=0 digiwinindx=0 digiwin=1096302880 midiwinindx=0 midiwin=-1 threaded=0 usevox=0 usespeech=0 [mouse] control_enabled=1 speed=1.000000
Here is what's in my CFG:
[sound] digiid=-1 midiid=-1 digiwin=1096302880 midiwin=-1 digiindx=0 midiindx=0 digiwinindx=0 midiwinindx=0 [misc] gamecolordepth=16 defaultres=1 screenres=1 letterbox=0 windowed=1 refresh=85 gfxfilter=None
I do hold down escape for nearly the whole run so that should be similar. You mention you are playing on Linux- how so? I thought that the game/AGS was Windows only, perhaps that may be playing into the differences you are seeing between the runs? Are the timings the same between mine and OneShortEye's?
I haven't had much time this week with work but hope to do some testing/timing myself this weekend.
Maybe imgur will work: https://imgur.com/VfRNl5A
Interesting, I've been running on the basic settings with the only change being to window size where I've chosen to scale up so I can see the game better. Here's a screengrab of them:
Hi there! I've started to do some speedruns on this game now that it's been released on the SwitchVC. Are runs on that platform accepted? If so would a mod mind adding it as a platform to the page? Thanks for any help.
Hi folks, the leaderboard has been set up and includes both 100% and Any% categories for the full series run, as well as IL's set for each case. I did not include boards for the original (non-deluxe) versions of the first two cases as I'm not sure if they are even around these days. If someone has them and wants to run them, feel free to message me and I can add their own IL.
Happy speedrunning!
