I'm 100% sure if you don't submit video proof, we'll reject it on the spot.
For a game that as optimized as this one is, it's inconceivable that you'd "accidentally" get a legitimate WR. People work hard and put in a lot of time and effort for those.
We cannot reject runs based on whether or not you're a likeable person or submit a subjectively "bad run." Everyone starts somewhere.
This is all fairly simple.
- Read the rules by clicking on the View Rules button and abide by what you read.
- Make an honest attempt to beat the game fast. It does not matter if it takes you 5 minutes or 16 hours to do it.
- Submit your run with your YouTube or Twitch video showing your entire run.
Follow all that and you'll be fine.
Video proof of any submission is required for SMB1 and has been for several years now.
We are not accepting new categories until further notice.
The ROM is modified from the NES version, so no, it's not exactly the same.
We're not adding any ILs back aside from the two that currently exist on the CE leaderboard.
You can find the IPS patch listed in the Resources section to the left. You need an SMB1 ROM to use that patch with.

We aren't as restrictive on platforms here as in SMB1/2J, so what you're using is fine.

This game isn't like 1/2J that operates on a 21 framerule system to be able to have exact split times for everything and predict RNG elements. If you make a 0.1 second mistake in the level, there's nothing that's going to keep you from losing 0.1 of time at the end of the level.

Timing starts when pressing start on 1P/2P screen and ends when the fade out begins when entering the door at the end of the Bowser fight with the exception of Any% (wrong warp) in which it ends when Mario is visible in the Princess's chamber (and the game cannot crash). Splits in between honestly is whatever you feel comfortable with and can split consistently. There's some variance with Any% and Any% No WW so you may want to check out some of the runs for ideas or come up with your own. For Warpless and 100%, most players split when grabbing the wand at the end of each world. I personally would not recommend IL splits for Warpless and 100% because the variance with encounters with the hammer bros are going mess that idea up pretty quickly.
¯_(ツ)_/¯ we still require acceptable audio and video on all submissions.
We are actively discussing this and likely looks like we'll have it figured out over the weekend.
As long as no functionality is used that's not available on a standard NES controller, L+R, Turbo, etc., you can use whatever you'd like.
People have played on a DDR pad before. I'd like to see someone to submit a run playing with a MIDI controller or a StreamDeck lol.
The forums aren't really the place to self-promote your own content.
