High score challenges aren't really fit for a game like this. Especially since there are only 100 shines. As for the other characters similar to Mario%, I actually did bring this up with a mod, and after discussing, we concluded that it just isn't too much of a challenge at that point. Mario is overall bad, so having Mario% makes sense.

another idea for 3d world is all levels any% (postgame) Finish all the levels from 1-1 to the final bowser fight what this changes from any% is that you do all the levels and since it's a postgame file then you don't need to take any green stars.

Character-specific runs don't really work, Mario% is a thing because Mario is considered the worst character in the game by most players so it's considered a meme to do the whole run with Mario only.

I like Max Powerups% even if the name could be improved.
