Would this be a good game to start?

Is SUPERHOT A good game to start speedrunning? I've been watching speedruns of different games for a couple of years now but I want to try one.

Italy

Haven't run this in a hot while but it was one of the first games I ever ran so I can tell you from experience: yes! The leaderboards are filled with times at all skill levels so you get to visualize your progress nicely as you climb up, the nature of the game with individual short chambers means that single deaths won't be too costly since you can just try the chamber again and finish any run, and the fact that you control the speed of the game means you can take parts you struggle with more slowly and accelerate as you get better. The only unfriendly parts are needing to switch versions and language for optimal speed as well as the slightly unintuitive dialogue skips, but the gameplay itself is lovely for a beginner IMO

Which category do you recommend I should run first?

Italy

Up to you, Any% is the best for competition and the one that felt the best for me but NG+ is nice if you don't really enjoy the cutscenes and of course Katana/Ghost play completely different

Canada

Coming from someone whos first run was for SUPERHOT Any%, I would definitely agree that it's a great game to start off with. It's great for remembering enemy spawns and due to its game mechanic of time only moving when you move, it lets you go at your own pace until you get better at the game. Then you will gradually go faster with your movement and your knowledge of the game will grow. It also has some speedrun friendly game mechanics like the IL timers, so you can practice all the levels. Game isn't all that complex too, that's a plus.

Learning Katana as my first run really helped getting a feel for jumping and general movement and it also taught me the enemy spawn locations. It's also shorter since it doesn't have cutscenes ect. So I'd recommend that but really it's up to you.
