General Speed Run Techniques:

CPU selection:

The CPU Selection for your character is decided the moment you insert a coin. It can be beneficial to reset the rom until you get a good starting choice.

In General you will want to choose the opponent with:

A. The least amount of health. 1. 2050 - Q (with 3 taunts +37.5%) 2. 1870 - Hugo (with 4 taunts +25.3%) 3. 1705 - Q (with 2 taunts +25%) 4. 1670 - Hugo (with 3 taunts +19%) 5. 1535 - Hugo (with 2 taunts +12.7%) 6. 1470 - Chun-Li (with 1 "back stretch" taunt +31.3%) / Hugo (with 1 taunt +6.3%) 7. 1400 - Q (with 1 taunt +12.5%) 8. 1385 - Hugo 9. 1330 - Chun-Li (with 1 "shoulder tap" taunt +18.8%) 10. 1300 - Gill 11. 1285 - Urien 12. 1200 - Alex / Q / Ryu / Ken / Dudley / Makoto 13. 1120 - Sean / Chun-Li / Oro / Elena / Necro / Remy 14. 1050 - Twelve 15. 1035 - Ibuki 16. 1020 - Yun / Yang 17. 985 - Akuma

B. The least amount of stun bar. Long Stun Bar (72) - Hugo / Gill / Alex / Q / Dudley / Oro Normal Stun Bar (64) - Urien / Ryu / Ken / Makoto / Sean / Elena / Chun-Li / Necro / Twelve / Yun / Yang / Ibuki Short Stun Bar (52) - Remy / Akuma

C. The fastest wakeup time. D. No invincible reversal attack. E. Slowest mobility.(Dash/Walk Speed)

Most of this information is located here: http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Street_Fighter_3:_3rd_Strike

Typically the Hardest non boss CPU is Gouki / Akuma.

CPU exploitation:

In general:

While playing as Shoto characters: (Ryu, Ken, Gouki, Sean) Most CPU’s will allow you to repeatedly loop j.HK land Some close button, Sweep x N

Activation of super on the first few frames of 2nd round start can cause the cpu to jump in some cases (needs more experimentation), you can see this and react if you are using an (activation type) super such as Yin’s Genei jin .

CPU’s will eat projectile some supers from a distance in most cases. Most notably, Oro SA2.

In most cases the will not block supers or Shoryuken type moves on the first few frames after they wake up if they have invincibility frames, (ken hp shoryu, gouki fp shoryu, sean/ryu ex shoryu just to name a few).

CPU’s will never block low hitting supers for example. Necro SA3.

(Makoto) If you land a Command Grab you can do st.HP xx Hayate into Command Grab x N, This works on every cpu including gill and is considered the easiest way to beat the game.

Gill: Gill will always attack on the first few frames of his wake up allowing you to use any invincible shoryuken type move against him repeatedly until he dies. This also allows you to use ANY invincible super against him on the first few frames of his wake-up.

Bonus Stages: Car: Generally you want to repeat the same attacks over and over. However the vehicle has 2 main lifebars: body1 and body2, Body 2 appears after the car flips. Most importantly, if you are able to attack the inside of the car, it will flip before any of the other parts have been damaged.

Block the Ball: At the screen where you are about to enter the stage showing Sean with the basketball, if you hold Down + LP + MK + HP, you will automatically set the level of the stage to 5. This is the fastest way to complete it.

Character Specific Loops and Tricks: Sean: Jump HK, land, HK xN is his basic cpu loop. If they block you can Sweep. Ken: Jump HK/HP -> c.MK xx LP shoryuken, land Taunt xN

Gouki/Akuma: Jump HK, land, standing MK, Sweep xN VS Gill: Gouki can hit gill will HK tatsu if buffered correctly into another, gill will block the first and attempt to hit you out of the second, resulting in a knockdown. After knockdown gouki can do Demon flip into Demon flip grab xN. Gouki can HP shoryuken on gills wakeup.
