Hi, could you please make categories for 100% 1 character, as i might have a shot at this over the Christmas holidays, thanks. (You can even put in 100% all characters if someone is crazy enough to do that)

I'll mention that to Rithek tomorrow! To me, it sounds like a good idea - I've been doing some runs of this category, but there's no actual leaderboard for it. At the moment, I believe I have the only proper finished run. But it would be really awesome if someone else also got into this. I'm pretty sure we can put up a category for 100% for one character. Thank you for your input!

i think the rules for 100% 1 character would be (start from a new file)

- All Snowflakes
- All Clothing items
- Fully Upgrade every stat
- Gold Medal or more in racing and freestyle events

anymore, thanks 🙂

Hm. All clothing items? And fully upgrade all stats? When I hear 100%, I instantly think it's 100% on the All Mountain stat chart, therefore: All event medals gold or better, all snowflakes, all big challenges and all career highlights is all that's needed. I mean I guess I'm not opposed to this, but if we're leaving out Big Challenges and career highlights, it won't be 100% on the All Mountain stat chart anymore, which is the primary way the game measures progress.

I have no more to "add", don't personally want to add more demands on top of what the game gives you on the All Mountain stat chart. Thoughts?

Hey I just wanted to post here because I'm in the midst of learning to speedrun this game and it sounds like many rules clarifications and changes are happening right now, and a few things concern me:

I don't agree with the banning of the select warp rule because that makes it far too ambiguous and hard to enforce. If you wipe out, you automatically select warp. and sometimes that can be an advantage for you because you can just so happen to warp ahead. Unless we can make the rule more defined by saying 'no pressing select' for instance, then you have none of this ambiguity. Still, banning select warps i think is also silly because you can have peoples runs become invalidated instantly mid run by one dumb select warp, even by accident.

I'm 99% sure All Mountain 100% is all big challenges, collectibles, gold medals, rival challenges, and career highlights, as is defined by the checkboxes in the transport menu. Buying things in the lodge isn't required for 100% (but buying stats might be recommended)

Speaking of which, 425 snowflakes (and i assume all big challenges) all have the same rules. you can and should level up stats as long as you dont collect a single item.

All Peak Race (clean)???
have no idea what makes it clean other than no intentional select warps. I personally will be choosing to run this category using select warps or whatever category it would be (all peak race with select warps?)

Lastly, how should we start/stop timing in each category? it doesn't matter to me what is decided on but as long as we figure out a distict action to use to make start/stop times and leaderboard times universal.

Appreciate if people get back to me on my thoughts

Thanks

@ Hypnoshark, okay, so you just forgot 😛 Yeah, 100% on All Mountain is by far the format I want to run, we'll see if we want to decide on a 99% run by leaving out the handplant. Career highlights are things you have to do in the game, for instance: rail 300m on a single rail, get 9 seconds of airtime, get a 100x combo in an event, etc.

@ SkiCrazedTeddy

To answer a few of your thoughts, first the select warp comment...

If we WERE to ban select warps, it would only be select presses that could be considered an intentional timesave, as in, if you wipe out in a spot that could be considered a normal select warp spot. But, I'm almost certain we're not gonna ban select warps - playing clean is just a choice I personally made because I find it more fun, but it's not going to be in the actual ruleset once we have worked it out. We are still on the fence about allowing everything (wormholes, early exit strats etc) but we will almost certainly not ban select warps.

As for what you think 100% entails, yes, that's correct. Stats are not needed, but it's probably worth it to buy stats. I might be able to pull a 100% with no stats, but I'm almost certain I would save more than the 2 minutes it takes.

Yep, the 425 snowflake run does that, and I guess Big Challenges too - just that the Big Challenge run actually doesn't have a ruleset yet, I will get on making one over Christmas.

A clean run, specifically the All Peak Race, is a run without the following:

Wormholes
Intentional selects
Early exit strats
Lodge glitch
And any other glitches that basically aren't how the game was originally intended to be played

If you want to run an All Peak Race w/ select strats, it will become a so-called "glitchless" run. Just fyi. It's not on the scoreboard, but we do have some people who do/have run it, the WR at the moment is 18:42 by Insetik47.

Timing starts at the following:

100% run, snowflake run, big challenge run, all platinum medals: After choosing your character at the character select screen. The instant you press cross, A, or whatever button, you start the timer.

All Peak Race and such: We use the in-game timer. No need for external timer.

Thanks that cleared a lot of things up. I definitely agree that allowing early exit strats, and probably wormholes, would be bad for the 100% category.

Was also curious if all peak race had to be done RTA. If it uses the in game timer than I would argue you should be allowed to pause, only maybe once or twice in the run (although enabling pause buffering strats would be bad). Just to make it friendly for people to run, but it's a short category. I am not so opinionated on this idea but I thought it was worth bringing up.

And does 100%/snowflake/big challenge end on collecting the last item you need?
People might split after collecting the last item they think they need so then they check their stats and realize they are not finished but they stopped their timer.

Hey there SkiCrazedTeddy,

I’m glad to see you interested in running this great game 🙂

For the existing runs the rules for the most part are available by a drop down box... 425 snowflakes for example has the most fleshed out rule-set of all the categories. It even specifies when to start and stop the timer. Although I can see your concern with hitting the timer to complete a run before you know if you have gotten all of the requirements by the scoreboard, there are two main reasons I believe this is not a real problem. Firstly almost all split programs have a way to un-split the time and continue the run. And second by following the route of any given run MOST of the time you shouldn’t forget anything. I know I have never once forgotten a snowflake for example. As for the All Peak Race 898ppp has done a good job of explaining it, and it is done using in game timer… I will elaborate a bit more on the rule-set in the coming days. We just decided on new rules regarding accidental wipe-outs, and I will include a small note on pausing (of which only 2 small pauses will be allowed). Obviously it being a speedrun It would be preferred the pauses was not in a run, especially an emulated run as it puts the legitimacy a bit more into question.

Back to 100% as 898ppp has said select warps will absolutely not be banned, and frankly I think all other glitches will be allowed in this category (or 99% should we chose to axe the 8 second handplant).

All In all I will fix up the rules to make sure they are a lot clearer especially to new runners.

If you have any more concerns or questions I am more than happy to talk about it 🙂

Good news everyone, I believe I have figured out how to maintain a hand-plant fairly consistently (I just did the 8 second hand-plant twice in a row with this method).

Basically you let your character lean to a 40 degree angle and then start analog control inputs. The biggest mistake I was making in my prior attempts at this is I was holding the stick in the direction. From what I can tell it is a LOT easier if you just tap the stick in the opposite direction. After that it is just getting the rhythm down. I now believe that the hand-plant highlight is actually skill based. Additionally I think that 100% should be the category over 99%, especially considering 99% would still require a 5 second hand-plant anyways.

Hope to hear your guy’s thoughts on the matter and to see if this hand-plant method works for you guys as well.
