As “Jungle” is the first stage of Serious Sam 2, when doing complete runs, it means that you can easily restart and get a great time for the stage. That being said, here are some tips to help get your Jungle IL sub 1:35.

Airstrafing: Airstrafing is a key part of running this level, as the first quarter of the level is running down a long, narrow strip of land. This means that if you don’t airstrafe, you can lose up to 3 seconds on your run, which is definitely not ideal. To airstrafe, all you need to do is constantly jump and press the Q and E keys as fast as you possibly can. Watch tSu_nAmi’s run of Jungle here to see what I mean:

If you’re using the standard WASD setup, I recommend using A and D to strafe over the Q and E keys. This makes your key presses faster, as they are closer to the W key, and also put less strain on your fingers when you spam. Once you’ve begun mashing the keys, you need to make sure you are pressing both keys at about the same rate. This makes sure you don’t fly off to the left or right when you’re in the air, and helps you stay on track and not lose time drifting about. Once you have airstrafing mastered, one way you can check if you’re at a good pace for a run is by checking if you are under 24 seconds when passing the running Simbas. If you aren’t, then

simply restart the run and try again. This part is at the very beginning, so it doesn’t hurt too much.

Crate Puzzle Once you’ve made it all the way to the running Simbas, you will approach the trickiest bit of the level: The weighted button. In this small area, you must place a wooden crate down on the pad in order for the door to open, and if you fail doing this quickly, it can kill your IL and entire run, if you’re going for the full thing. When you approach the door, fire at the left side and kill the 4 grunts which will be running out. Once this is complete, run through the very left side of the door, and hug the left wall all the way to the stack of boxes. When you’re at the stack of boxes, pick the bottom corner box and throw it onto the pad, all while moving forward towards the sliding door. If you do manage to make the throw onto the pad, watch the stairs, as the clipping on them can be temperamental sometimes. If you keep failing this section of the level, and don’t want to walk all the way there to practice, simply create a save point after you kill the grunts and load from it after every try. Once you have this part perfected, you can move onto the next part.

Dino and the “Boss”: When you’re through the door, keep airstrafing towards Dino and mount. You don’t have to be right next to him to do this, as there is a trigger zone around him, so simply spamming “F” while approaching should do the job. When mounting, Dino’s aim is set to the right of where you want to be going, so make sure to flick your cursor when you mount. Make sure to keep airstrafing on Dino, and head up the hill. Spam left click here to skip the cutscene when it approaches, and then fire 3 shots at the purple ball coming down the hill. Once this is done, just keep firing at the other enemies coming down while still moving, and jump straight over. (Note: You don’t need to kill all the enemies to get past here; just make sure there aren’t more than a few, otherwise they will cause problems further in the level.) Continuing down the hill, jump to the left side of the door to where the helicopter is landing, and spam below it. This should take out any enemies that drop, as they all spawn in the same position, and on top of each other. The same is true for the other helicopter that comes down, so repeat the same thing for this. Once you’ve finished, run up to the door on the very left side and keep walking into it until Onan breaks it down. Once he does, don’t bother fighting him. Just run straight behind him to the load zone, and complete the level.
